Totten on Morsi
Michael Totten gets around, and yesterday he talked about what’s been going on lately in Egypt:
[Morsi’s] already being called the new Pharaoh. It makes no difference that he was elected. Democracy isn’t just about getting elected. A democratic election is not a one-time plebiscite on who the next tyrant is going to be.
Well worth reading.
Given the thousands of years of uninterrupted autocracy in Egypt, this outcome, while sad, is not surprising.
The question is whether or not the US should continue funding Egypt.
“The question is whether or not the US should continue funding Egypt.”
Given the present circumstances, is this really a question? Bribing Egypt a few billion a year to maintain a peaceful status quo with Israel made (some) sense. Now, I favor a total cessation of funding and banning the export of wheat. Let ’em eat sand.
Bribing Egypt a few billion a year
without the few billion Bribe Morsi’ will not come and staying in power till get his nails stronger, isn’t?
