Poll on the size of government
This might be encouraging news, depending on how you interpret it:
According to the survey, just four in 10 registered voters believe the government should promote traditional values, down from 53% in 2010 and 57% in 2008…
Six in 10 say the government is doing too much that should be left to individuals and businesses.
The article says the first response could favor Democrats, and I suppose this could be true if the Republican in question is a Sanotrum-type social con. It also says that the second response would favor Republicans.
But it’s also possible that both responses express a libertarian point of view.
It’s also hard to see how the results could square with support of Obama, who is nothing if not for big government. But it would depend on how many people see Romney as supporting the idea that “government should promote traditional values.” I would say he’s more in favor of the notion that government shouldn’t interfere with traditional values—but hey, that’s just me.
i LOVE this bit of crappy logic…
do you think that’s how it works?
If so, then why are there any feminists at all given what their leaders say and what their followers whine about?
if you cant connect 1 to 1 to get 2, then it don’t matter at all… (and the majority of women haven’t been able to do that since 1968)…
its why Obama is always on talk shows and really really really pushing for the woman vote. and why they are pushing for the black Nazi vote…
or as another author is putting it taking words from Michelle Obama…
they are trolling for the Knucklehead vote…

So Obama Is a Lying, Race-Baiting Demagogue: Does Anyone Care?
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2012/10/so-obama-is-a-lying-race-baiting-demagogue-does-anyone-care.php
I guess I am missing the point. How big does government have to be to promote traditional values. Do we need another Dept of Traditional Values? (I can guess the answer to that.)
The irony of the whole situation is contained in the premise that underlies the argument for ever larger government, to wit; “the government must take on problem X or situation Y, simply because the government is the only entity large enough to do so.”
Of course this is built on the most basic premise, which is that every perceived problem needs a solution.
Off topic, but since Artfldgr segued into a feminist thread. Linking the two together reminds me of one of the fundamental non-biological differences between men and women. If a problem is revealed, women are often content to simply discuss it. That relieves the pressure for them. Not so men. If you bring a problem to a man’s attention, that means he has to solve it. Why else would you bring it up? If he cannot solve it, there is added pressure. We have had this dichotomy demonstrated in my home for about 54 years now.
Artfldgr: once again you misunderstand my point.
Although I admit I didn’t make it completely clear. The point I was trying to make was that logically it’s hard to square support of Obama with result #2, that “the government is doing too much that should be left to individuals and businesses.” I understand full well that the electorate can hold simultaneous and yet contradictory ideas, or respond to appeals that are highly illogical.
However, I doubt that the feminists you decry are the people who responded to the poll by saying they believe government should be smaller in way #2, that “the government is doing too much that should be left to individuals and businesses.” They would be the ones who would think government should be smaller in way #1 rather than way #2—that is, they believe that government shouldn’t be used to promote traditional values.
