  1. That’s so YOU, neo. You are the kick out the jams, fight for your right to party, get down with your bad self, REBEL ANIMAL!

  2. And I for one QUESTION YOUR AUTHORITY to ban or edit anyone here!

  3. Maybe she is just referering to Justice League Unlimited… episodes 22 (“Question Authority”)?

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.

Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.

and for the ladies of the view:

“Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.”Albert Einstein

“Freedom is the recognition that no single person, no single authority or government has a monopoly on the truth, but that every individual life is infinitely precious, that every one of us put in this world has been put there for a reason and has something to offer.” Ronald Reagan

“Leave no authority existing not responsible to the people.” Thomas Jefferson

On our Matriarchal Culture loving cats, and who loves Dogs (and why):
“It’s easy to understand why the cat has eclipsed the dog as modern America’s favorite pet. People like pets to possess the same qualities they do. Cats are irresponsible and recognize no authority, yet are completely dependent on others for their material needs. Cats cannot be made to do anything useful. Cats are mean for the fun of it.” P. J. O’Rourke

“There will never be a really free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly” Henry David Thoreau

“Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence he is just using his memory” Leonardo Da Vinci

“Authority founded on injustice is never of long duration.” Seneca

“The authority of those who teach is often an obstacle to those who want to learn.” Cicero

“In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual.” Galileo Gallilei

“The people are hungry: It is because those in authority eat up too much in taxes.” Lao Tzu

  4. “The family is the most basic unit of government. As the first community to which a person is attached and the first authority under which a person learns to live, the family establishes society’s most basic values.”

Charles Caleb Colton (English sportsman and writer, 1780-1832)

“How will the family unit be destroyed? … the demand alone will throw the whole ideology of the family into question, so that women can begin establishing a community of work with each other and we can fight collectively. Women will feel freer to leave their husbands and become economically independent, either through a job or welfare.” — From Female Liberation by Roxanne Dunbar

  5. Afrtfldgr: I think you missed the fact that I was being humorous. That “question authority” comment was a joke.

  6. This means Romney posed for a mugshot in his swimsuit. Move over Scott Brown!

  7. At the very least, it serves to underscore one important point, which every piece of Democrat oppo research cannot help but unwittingly emphasize:

We already know more about the life history of Mitt Romney than we will ever be allowed to glimpse of Barack Obama. Particularly in spite of the latter’s far-premature autobiography, which is looking more and more like it needs to be re-filed under Fiction (and which, as recent humorous “distractions” have emphasized, pretty much nobody has actually -read-).

  8. Meanwhile we have in the WH an admitted coke head…. sounds of crickets anyone??

  9. There are many policemen like the one who arrested Romney. It was simply a failure to communicate clearly. Obviously the policeman felt that warning of the fine was enough to discourage launching. He had no idea that someone would gladly pay the fine in order to use his boat, so he came unhinged and viewed the launching as a direct challenge to his authority. Yep, he probably thought Romney was some clown who thought he could ignore official warnings.

Observation: Many policemen do not take kindly to people seeming to challenge their authority. Unfortunately, Mitt learned that the hard way. Let’s hope the cop learned that not all people think like he does.

  10. Romney was offered a choice and he complied. Romney was right and the police officer was wrong.

    Curtis:

She has proved her mettle in theory and practice. If she changed her mind, and decided to lead this nation, I would not hesitate to vote for her.

  11. I almost think this story was “found”… at Romney’s request. As far as it goes, it’s a good tale. It just seems to fit his efforts to try and look like a regular guy. Billionaires, or hundred millionaires, whatever, are not regular guys. The ranger probably simply didn’t realize who he was dealing with and his boss… let him know. Guilty or not, that just isn’t done.

Still not voting for him in any case. Probably do a write in. Then again, this is Utah. I don’t… think he will miss one vote. Just… saying.

  12. Hippies, just like most other people, only question those particular authorities they’re not comfortable with and therefore wish to undermine. This compartmentalization is a natural human trait, but honesty in acknowledging it is far too often lacking.

I’ve lost of count of those lefty “**** the System, **** the Man!” types who relate to Zionism and Israel in terms that sound surprisingly authoritarian: “Israel is a rogue state, a scofflaw, that needs to be made to conform the human norms if it is to be counted among the family of nations” et cetera on that vein. I’d have thought my country’s non-conformism and thumbing its nose at the System of international law would be a great exhibit of the values most prized by hippies, yet somehow it isn’t.

Neither has the decidedly non-conformist attitude of right-wingers such as Sarah Palin–the very title “Going Rogue” ought to warm the cockles of the hippie heart, but nope, no glory. In a day of repressive demand for conformance to the ideals of Political Corretness and Multi-Culturalism, questioning authority means foremostly questioning PC and MC. But this is not the kind of authority the “Question All Authority” hippies want questioned by anyone.

  13. I completely agree that this story helps Romney with a lot more people than it hurts him with, for reasons all of us inuitively understand.

I would point out that while Obama would prefer that people see this episode as an example of a rich guy’s behaving as if he were “above the law,” the story gives the lie to one of the left’s cherished myths, i.e., the belief that the police only harass and humiliate poor minorities, while leaving suburban white folks alone.

  14. I hope there are not too many potential voters with Doom’s attitude. We have two choices before us; Romney or Obama. I could ask him to explain his rationale, but don’t think I will bother. Maybe the Obama campaign will send him a thank you note.

It could be that the Romney people did uncover the story. The more we learn about that family, the more likable they become. I can see a lot of father’s thinking, “hell, it would be worth the 50 bucks not to have to tell the five boys we couldn’t get in the boat today”. Lots of Mom’s would agree.

A lot of folks will also like the fact that Romney struck back by threatening to sue for false arrest instead of just rolling over.

I think the pseudo-cop realized that he acted like a jackass–or more likely, his boss pointed out that fact to him.

  15. Oldflyer,

Just so you know. You see a choice, I don’t. One drafted Obamacare, and as recently as a few years ago supported the mandate. The other made it federal law. The political differences between them are marginal, when they exist, put bluntly. While neither is mainstream, both elite or outside, neither is actually conservative in any meaningful way.

I won’t vote for another Bush, first or second, or more critically, a socialist, hard or soft core. Do what your conscience guides you to do, bow to your new masters. I realize that while I have much to lose, slow or fast, there is little difference between these two candidates. Faster and not from what was my party is preferable. Like dying, the slow way is the hard way. So, if I choose one of these two, I am choosing wrongly. But one of them is not in anyway associated with me. The other claims to be ‘my kind’, which is far worse in some, many, ways.

My guess is you voted for McCain? Never mind. Over your head.
