A post-election comment sampler
Here are a bunch of blog comments I found at Ace’s that I think are interesting although I don’t necessarily agree with them and certainly not totally.
In no particular order:
It has little to do with never Trump. It has to do with human nature history.
The border is sealed. The economy is booming. China is out of Venezuela and Cuba. Iran is a no longer a threat and is now a failed state.
We wanted all of these things. And we got them. So why vote Cause they can’t possibly be reversed.
The Party in power always loses in midterms. Not hard to look up. Cause why vote when you are winning? Human nature never changes.
This makes no sense to me. Dems took the evil side of every 80-20 issue, R registrations far outpaced D, people have been abandoning woke, Dems have been threatening their fellow Americans, Trump has reversed the Biden administration’s abuses against Americans, Dems have lost funding for their riots and other nefarious doings, crime is down, inflation is down, employment is up …
What is going on?
People are upset over everything being expensive, so they are putting the people who caused it back in power?
Make it make sense!
I’m not going to analyze the results in detail today. Maybe some other time, when we learn more about what blocs of voters voted for what.
My initial impressions are that Hispanic voters – who voted for Trump and the GOP in 2024 – veered to the left in this election. I’m not sure exactly what the motive was. Also, the Democrats’ emphasis on “affordability” was brilliant and they hammered it home. They didn’t have to explain what they would do to fix it; it was enough to talk about it and hope that people’s short memories would mean they had forgotten the Biden years (and the gas prices and sky-high inflation during some of those years, as well).
Calling Iran a “forever war” about a month after it started was another factor, and the Tuckeresque right was very instrumental in disseminating that message as well, despite the fact that it’s been a war in which there have been very very few American casualties and pretty much no boots on the ground, against an implacable enemy that’s done much damage all around the world for almost fifty years. No matter. A lot of people on the right feel that Trump broke one of the promises on which they had relied, and that it’s the fault of his listening to the nefarious Jews.

Hispanics don’t like the deportations.
Trump will end the war real soon. We will invade. There will be massive bombing. Pick Axe MT will be blasted. The Crown Prince will lead an invasion forces. There are moles in the regular Iranian Army who will take out the IRGC.
Don’t forget the influence of the mainstream media. They made darn sure that everything Trump did was portrayed as bad.
On the flip side, the dumbpublicans in Congress did what ?? What exactly did they accomplish? Trump initiated a bunch of policies, but the congressional dumbpublicans were MIA.
Unfortunately , this is par for the course for the dumbpublican party.
I blame the Bauxites and NPAs! (Sarc)
2029 has the potential of beginning the real nightmare for Israel. If and when President AOC or El-Sayed take office (not as far fetched today as it was yesterday), the US will transition from steadfast ally to active enemy. I hope Israel prepares accordingly.
Call me paranoid, but I find myself wondering how this election had the votes counted in a couple hours rather than the weeks or months previous recent ballot counts have taken.
What are the chances of an undetectable (so far) AI driven rejiggering of the electronic vote to produce landslide level shifts in what were reliably Red States?
I mean really…dweeby kiddie diddler and tranny fanboy James Telarico winning by 12 pts in f*&king Texas?? Like this NewNeo commenter said…

Hispanics don’t like the deportations. — Cornhead
I don’t know how the numbers shake out, but I’d say that some Hispanics don’t like the deportations.
I know a story, from 10 years ago, about a local Hispanic fellow who voted for Trump in 2016. Many years prior, he and a buddy snuck into the US illegally and were beginning to assimilate, mainly with finding work. His buddy continued down that path, with things like getting fake ID’s.
He, alternatively, thought about his future, and wasn’t happy about all these other small or modest crimes, like fake IDs, that he would have to engage in. Plus, he had girlfriend back home he wanted to bring her over too. So he went back to Honduras, and he and his girlfriend applied for legal immigration to the US, and they got in.
He was absolutely against what he initially attempted and his buddy continued with, and was happy with the idea that Trump would secure the borders. Deportation is a different process, but I suspect he would be fine with that too.

In an alternate history, Trump could have done things to bring gasoline prices down, if he had not attacked Iran. Or if he had attacked Iran, but had an excellent scheme to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
But generally, it just isn’t possible to bring prices down across the board without triggering a severe recession first. THAT would not have made people happy.
I kind of agree with neo’s post about “human history.” People have trouble seeing beyond the end of their own nose, or beyond what’s been happening in the last 2 or 3 months.
DeSantis just delivered a very depressing post mortem. The GOP is toast.

Paxton was a horrible choice here in Texas as a candidate. He has a history of being shifty and goofy, not as goofy as his opponent but the super goofy won out over the dark side goofy, or so it seems. I have friends who worked for the law firm in Dallas who had to kick Paxton out the door early in when he joined the firm because he was shady in his dealings. Paxton had a bad history for sure.
Trump annoyed a lot of folks with putting his name on stuff in Washington and pushing his big ball room and he perhaps should have waited until the mid-terms to make himself famous with landscape. I think this probably pushed the middle undecided over to the left. Now the next few years we will have to deal with the liberal moves forward for a better world, in their opinion. That will be a total mess. As for the hispanic vote here in Texas I think the dems sold their side a bit better than the GOP, deportations and the media coverage of that really hurt us. I went to bad rather sad and woke up kind of mad.
Life goes on and stuff happens, did the border counties have rigged elections as usual, probably did and that has always been a factor however bad candidates make for bad elections. This stuff makes me sad and I am not looking forward to the media coverage of the next several years. The price of gasoline did not go down enough and prices,, due to inflation in the past, are still too high and it’s the economy. So, there’s that today.
“aggressive ICE raids/deportations” is putting it mildly, ‘Sidekick‘…more like gestapo troops shooting, beating, rounding up, etc. Hey, fine by me, but I am not Hispanic.
🙂 🙂 LMAO 🙂 🙂 Well, no one can say humble hermit me didn’t warn y’all TCS MAGA voters! (Ditto on the Sarc)
Anyway, 2028 best have a female and/or Latino and/or black GOP Presidential
candidate“nominee” — for starters…In May 1942, after the Japanese had driven Allied forces out of Burma, American Lt. Gen. Joseph “Vinegar Joe” Stilwell, commander of American and Chinese forces in that country, had this to say at a press conference in New DelhI:
“I claim we got a hell of a beating. We got run out of Burma and it is humiliating as hell. I think we ought to find out what caused it, go back and retake it.”
Words of wisdom, requiring only one modifcation, for conservatives appalled by yesterday’s election results.
