  1. It’s sometimes fun to get wildflower seeds native to the area, because it’s very little work to take care of them, and if the bed eventually gets full of weeds or whatever you can hoe it all out and start over for very little effort or money.

Generally I’m looking for perennials, because I’m lazy, but I’ll use local wildflowers to fill in until I’ve figured out what I might like better.

One thing I’ve done, and never regretted, is sowed California poppies. They might make their way in eventually even if I don’t sow them, since they’re native and grow just about anywhere (cracks in retaining walls on the freeway for example). They dig deep and sow themselves so it’s like having perennials, and they stay green in the winter.

  2. Re: Wildflower photo

Interesting how the out-of-focus background achieves a painterly effect.

  3. Something is up. I don’t know what exactly, but man, the rumbles:

    Coupled with:

Massive if true. Will wait for official confirmations. Hostages returned. Hamas with no military or political power/capability, not governing Gaza. Gaza Strip never posing a threat to Israel again have been the goals of the war from Day 1.

See the Lazar Berman post at the Spencer link.

  4. Wonder how quietly Hamas will go now that their primary patron has so much else to contend with at home.

  5. Yeah, I have no idea how things will pan out regarding all of Iran’s terroristic tentical groups like Hamas and Hezb if Iran ends up having to divert large amounts of resources to deal with internal problems. By most accounts Iran’s military assets have been very badly hit with all sorts of top personnel being “taken out”, airforce pretty much gone, various missle launching capabilites destroyed and the like. Depending on how bad things really are for Iran it could be a long time before they’re able to invest much in their terrorist proxies again.

  6. hamas was previously supported by some elements of the saudi royals, by the baathists same with Palestinian Islamic jihad, the former faction were the ones that prince salman defanged, they still have long range missiles that could hit Western Europe, I’m kind of surprised they did not act stronger, but the principle of the Hudna still applies, outside of scattered remarks by Medvedev, which seem to be out of left field, The Khozayin is unwlling to really involved himselves maybe listening to Dugin was not the smartest play, also those S 200s don’t built themselves,

again they still have these capabilities among insurgent groups, and events in Boulder and Washington in the last weeks have shown how ill prepared we are to handle any direct action, as with the series of air travel accidents that happened earlier in the year,

the Ayatollah seems to bave been lept woefully uninformed about current events,

Public libraries begging to be shut down. (The American Library Association has long been infected with grotesque silliness and library school curriculum is humbug, btw).

It has been observed that the left has no limiting principle. You can see this in all manner of venues. The rest of the population has to impose a hard and fast limiting principle. The way to stop retreating is to just stop. In regard to this, perhaps what should have been done ca. 1969 was to limit the use of undercover officers and agents provacateurs to rooting out different species organized crime, to expand the scope of the defense of entrapment, to remove some hire bars and discharge bars in public employment, and to limit the use of raids on gatherings in taverns or private homes to situations where you had unreasonable noise or you had lewd acts taking place observable by members of the public. And at that point, just stop.

  8. Wonder not.

From the last I’ve heard, Qatar still has a bit of spare cash to spread around, should it wish to do so.
(Besides, who knows how many greenbacks—gifted them by the usual suspects—the mullahs, in spite of everything, are still sitting on?)…keeping in mind the following, which one may assume is a collaborative journalistic effort on the part of—that dynamic duo—IRI/CNN?

    “Khamenei threatens Israel after boasting war ‘victory’;
“Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, renewed threats against Israel, warning of a “heavy cost” for any attacks. This follows his claims of Iran’s “victory” over the “fake Zionist regime”.”—
