Another thing the left’s gleeful lusting after Luigi Mangione proves is that … — 18 Comments

  1. Any argument (or rationale) is better than no argument. Nonsense, hypocritical, or downright false ones will do in a pinch.

  2. Wouldn’t that depend, though, on how much WANTS to believe lies?
(Put another way, wouldn’t that depend on how much RELIABILITY / CREDIBILITY the government and media have?).

    File under: Tipping points…

  3. Democrats have consistently been on the wrong side since 1865. Who was Jim Crow? Who rode in the KKK? Who supported segregation? Who promoted socialism as a cure for the Great Depression? The party of authoritarian, Godless mendacity is who?
    You know who.

  4. I have proposed a 2 button meme with these choices:
1 School shooting means we need more gun control.
2 People like Luigi need access to firearms to shoot CEOs.

  5. Kate:

Did you see the press conference where Bragg announced he was going to go after Mangione? My wife’s reaction was that he was trying to rehabilitate his reputation following the Daniel Penny disaster by going after a real bad guy. That sounds about right to me. Or is it a racial thing?

  6. I dunno about “less frequently” but I do know the press covers for the Left’s hypocrisy comparedto the right’s. If it held both sides to the fire for hypocrisy we might see it decrease across the board.

  7. Didn’t see the press conference, F. But I’m willing to applaud his doing the right thing, when he so often doesn’t.

  8. My facebook feed is littered with posts from people and groups who view Mangione as someone to be celebrated. The popular idiocy is a photo with him photoshopped in and a caption that says, “Luigi Mangione [doing something] with me/us on December 4, between […]”

He murdered a man, a husband and father, shot him in the back.

  9. John Hinderaker offered some remarks on a piece of social survey research he’d seen. In a survey of those born during the years running from 1994 to 2006, the proportion of those who approved of Mangione’s actions was precisely the same as that of those who disapproved. What did we do to be cursed with the young people we have?

  10. Art Deco – I saw the same thing by Hinderaker. It’s chilling. I fear that we’ve raised a lost generation.

There’s a moral aspect to all that, which Hinderaker gets to, but there is also an intellectual element. The left-wing arguments against health insurance are asinine. Health care is a finite resource. There simply is no way to give everyone unlimited health care. There is no magic system where doctors, nurses, scientists, engineers, and everyone else who works to develop and provide our health care technology are going to both (i) work for below-market wages; and (ii) continue to provide the same level of advanced care. One way or another, rationing is going to happen, whether it is determined by health insurance companies based on the terms of an insurance contract, by government bureaucrats based on regulations, or by the market when smart people begin going into finance or other fields instead of medicine and health care.

And so denying health claims justifies cold-blooded murder? Are these people really stupid enough to believe that there won’t be denied care under socialized medicine? I get that the leadership of the movement is Saul Alinsky-ing their way towards an ideological goal and don’t really care how they get there, but what about the young people following them?

Let’s hope that the morally and intellectually sane cohort of that generation prevails and that the rest of them grow up.

  11. I think this problem goes very deep. It’s not confined to the left. Every forum I have looked at there is a lot of support for Mangione’s actions. Maybe since we really don’t have a culture that plays a role.

  12. The new hotness:

    …Thou SHALT kill.**…

** Those we deem guilty/expendable/non-human/…or just feel like killing.

  13. To anyone who might celebrate over Luigi… do NOT do it in my presence, else you may need a trip to your dentist! Little Luigi is a coward, and a punk. He should be executed. But don’t waste any expensive bullets on him. Hang him! After all, hanging is “green” – it doesn’t use any electricity, and the rope is reusable for other purposes! Heck, I will even volunteer to tie the noose.
