  1. Lee Smith, Tablet Mag, “Obama Isn’t Going Anywhere“: https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/obama-not-going-anywhere

But the story of Trump’s rise and fall and redemption isn’t over yet. If he doesn’t drive Barack Obama out of Washington, D.C. and dismantle his private- and public-sector network, Trump can still ultimately lose. His first term was undermined by Obama allies in U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies, and there’s evidence that the heart of the resistance is now ensconced inside the Pentagon and already poised to fight him. This threatens not only the Trump’s presidency but also the stability of the country. After fulfilling campaign promises to close the borders, embark on a massive deportation program sending millions of illegal aliens home, and appoint an attorney general capable of restoring the rule of law, the president-elect’s top priority must be to bring an end to the Obama era.

  2. There’s a Deutsche Grammaphon recording from the 80s of Gilels doing the greatest Beethoven piano sonatas (Pathetique and Moonlight). My father bought the CD back then, but I can find it on Spotify today.

Gilels is technically terrific, but he does play with great emotion. I’ve also really enjoyed him playing the Emperor piano concerto, also by Beethoven.

It’s a shame that he had to spend his life in the Soviet Union. Biographical accounts say he bristled against the whole New Soviet Man thing. He probably felt closeted, like he had to say the things his thug government wanted him to say so that he could live at the keyboard. His huge catalog proves how much life he had, in my opinion.

  3. Should FEMA Boss/Supervisor Marn’i Washington be charges with a Hate Crime?

FEMA worker Marni Washington breaks silence on not helping Trump-voting hurricane victims

The FEMA boss who was fired after ordering volunteers not to approach homes displaying Trump signs in Florida after Hurricane Milton has insisted her edict ‘was not isolated’ and also happened in North Carolina.

Poor Ms. Marn’i claims others “FEMA employees are guilty of the same bias”…er, OK – did Ms. Marn’i just admit to being “bias”? Her case has been handed over to the Office of Special Counsel, so maybe they can find a Hate Crime to charge her with…suuurre.

  4. “Gilels plays Prokofiev March from Love of Three Oranges”

Well, I am going to show what a lowbrow I am, but I recognize this march as the theme music from a kids’ space opera show from the 1950s titled “Captain Video”! What a flashback!

The Captain’s robot sidekick was named “Tobor”… get it? Get it?!

  5. I was Donald Trump’s former Education Secretary – here’s why I’ll stand behind him every step of the way

Trump promised to end the Department of Education during his campaign, a concept that drew wild applause from his supporters but will face staunch opposition from the bureaucrats and teachers unions.

‘We’re going to end education coming out of Washington D.C., we’re going to close it up all those buildings all over the place, and you have people in many cases who hate our children, we’re going to send it all back to the states,’ Trump said in a video issued to his supporters.

Devos said the Department of Education was created by Carter as a payoff to the teacher’s unions, and the entire department was filled with bureaucrats whose goals prioritized the unions, not America’s children.

Informative article – yeah, that nest of vipers needs to be destroyed…Trump is gonna be busy if he keeps even half of his promises.

  6. I first encountered “Tobor” in Heinlein’s juvenile Tunnel in the Sky, published in 1955. It took me far too long to get it 🙂 In the story, it doesn’t refer to anything in particular, all students are warned about “Tobor” before their graduation field test on some planet. That little revelation happens at the end of the book.

  7. A Threefer:

FBI Execs Rush to Retire After Trump Victory Leaves Them ‘Shell-Shocked.’

Reports indicate significant upheaval within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following Donald J. Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory. George Hill, a former FBI whistleblower, claims that numerous senior executives are hastily seeking retirement. Trump’s decisive win, securing all swing states and winning the popular vote against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, has reportedly left personnel at the FBI “stunned” and “shell-shocked.”

    Too funny 🙂

Mike DeWine will pick Vivek to replace JD Vance in Senate — If Trump makes the call. – candidates are Jane Timken and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Elon Musk — America PAC already working to win midterms.

Normally, PACs go somewhat dormant after a big election.

@America PAC is going to do the opposite and keep grinding, increasing Republican registrations in key districts around the country, in preparation for special elections and the midterms.

Gotta LOVE what Musk has brought to ‘Da Table — and continues to bring!!!

  8. You want “Trumpish”?
    Go with Evgeny Kissin.

    “…guilty of the same bias…”
I understood that it wasn’t so much that other FEMA people had the same bias but that THIS WAS FEMA POLICY FROM THE TOP.

In other words, a huge scandal; though one that should have been—and was—suspected even before the story broke about Ms Washington. IOW, the whole Federal response to Helena in western N.C. and eastern Tennessee REEKED.

Not sure I understand this one.
For a terrible leader, Trump doesn’t sound half bad…
    …but maybe I’m missing something….

  10. Is the Rubio for State pick being walked back? Today it’s being reported “expected”.

    Some politicking going on?

It was reported earlier in the year that Rubio had co-sponsored a bill to make it harder for Trump to withdraw from NATO. That doesn’t square with Rubio then being picked for a cabinet position– given the reporting that Trump values loyalty.

The Secretary of State projects the administration around the world. It better be someone who is totally aligned with the President’s view of foreign policy.

  11. Brian E

Am seeing articles on Rubio still in the running – looks like #1 candidate at this time.

That doesn’t square with Rubio then being picked for a cabinet position– given the reporting that Trump values loyalty.

I think CoS Susie Wiles (or someone?) has helped temper Trump’s sworn ‘Blood Oath‘ loyalty commitments this time around – such would certainly improve his Leadership ability, IMHO. Well, not Haley. 😉

  12. On a PAC already working to win the 2026 midterms: Yes! Keeping the House and perhaps expanding the Senate majority are important.

  13. Re: Emil Gilels

    neo:

    Thanks for the link.

I get more of a Beethoven vibe than Trump, and Gilels I discover is a master of Beethoven, but both Gilels and Trump are masters of a certain wonderful bombast.

Not that there’s anything with wrong with that!

Pianists like Gilels were what folks did before rock and roll. Keith Emerson, keyboard master of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, took that classic virtuosity into rock:

–Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Pictures At An Exhibition – Live In Montreal, 1977
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO4lEEigeeo

“Pictures at an Exhibition” was composed by classical composer Modest Mussorgsky and adapted by Maurice Ravel. Emerson’s version was another in the long line of homages.

    But Emerson was a rocker.

    RIP (1944–2016).

I find it much easier to follow podcasts when I have them on an MP3 (4?) player, instead of listening from my PC, as I complete chores all over the house. As far as I can tell, you cannot download YouTube stuff or most podcasts that are not on YouTube. I have found a site that has a lot of podcasts that you can download, including the above. Type in a search term at the top of the page, and odds are often pretty good you will find what you are looking for.

  15. IMPORTANT BREAKING NEWS as freshly seen at bongino.com: Trump releases a 10 point plan for taking higher education away from radical “Hate America First” Leftists. Its key action is to de-authorise the accrediting agencies and rebuild them on soundly traditional grounds.

“Donald Trump just released his plan to reform colleges and universities that have become left-wing indoctrination factories.

“In a new video, Trump promises to fire far-left accreditors that have allowed colleges to be dominated by ‘Marxists, maniacs and lunatics,’ and lays out a ten point plan that includes protecting American tradition and free speech, eliminating wasteful administrative positions, fighting racial discrimination (affirmative action), and taxing and fining endorsements, among others.”

  16. Brian E:

Regarding Marco Rubio’s nomination as Sec of State: Trump is sensitive to the balance of power in the Senate and House. It would be counter-productive to whittle away the majority in either house in order to get people into his cabinet. He also knows that Governor Ron De Santis will replace Rubio with a Republican, but Rubio is a known quantity in the Senate: a replacement is not. I have heard De Santis might replace Rubio with his own wife, but that’s a temporary nomination, and subject to Mrs. De Santis wishes, too.
