Governor Pritzker of Illinois makes sure Republicans can’t field candidates by “slating”
“Our democracy” at work:
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed into law a comprehensive election bill that would give Democrats a significant advantage toward keeping their legislative majorities before any votes are even cast in the Nov. 5 general election.
Democrats already enjoy legislative supermajorities in the Illinois House and Senate thanks to district maps drawn by party leaders following the 2020 federal census that were crafted to minimize Republican opposition.
But the election bill given final approval by Senate Democrats Thursday, a day after the bill passed the House, would further help Democrats maintain control in the next General Assembly.
Under the new law, local political party organizations can no longer appoint candidates to fill out legislative ballots where the party did not field a primary candidate. Previous law allowed the appointment process within 75 days of the primary.
And more importantly, the GOP relied on that law and their ability to appoint candidates. Now the rug has been pulled out from under them.
From Derek Muller at Election Law blog:
While I typically prefer to share stories without a lot of editorializing, I want to take a moment to offer one small observation. I waited for a couple of days to see how other media outlets would cover the story. After all, we are in an era where there is an explosion in journalists who identify as covering the “democracy beat” or looking for a “democracy angle” in stories. I wondered how the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Associated Press, or CNN might cover these stories. After all, they are quite attuned to what local county officials in Nevada or Arizona are doing with respect to counting ballots, or every twist and turn of an election bill in Georgia. How about this? As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been any coverage in these or many other major media outlets of America’s sixth-largest state changing the rules of an election in the middle of the campaign to deprive hundreds of thousands of voters of the opportunity to choose a candidate of their preference, and as a number of candidates who behaved in a way relying on existing laws have lost their opportunity to seek office. But there is still time for coverage, of course, particularly as I imagine litigation is coming.
I think there will be challenges in the courtroom, too. The only problem – if I’m correct about this – is that the challenges will be mounted in Illinois state courts, which are probably pretty uniformly to the left. And again – if I’m not mistaken – SCOTUS may consider it a state issue and not take such a case.
Of course, even without this new rule, the GOP wasn’t going to be taking over Illinois as the majority. But it might at least have made a few inroads here and there. The left doesn’t even want that to happen, and is willing to subvert its precious “democracy” to do it.
The State of Illinois, its rulers busily cutting down all the laws,
imagining that the winds will never blow…
that those they label devils will never turn round upon them.
Of course, even without this new rule, the GOP wasn’t going to be taking over Illinois as the majority.
Republicans win downstate. Democrats win Chicago and suburbs.
when do you think that will be geoffrey, as the descendants of capones accountants stack the deck, and also fund the terrorists, now with Hamas as the latest thing, as st floyd was four years ago,
With the rule change in mid-election, downstate Republicans may have trouble winning in many places even there. Talk about dirty political tricks!
For Democrats, “democracy” means “Dems win.”
The corrupt, degenerate, authoritarian, lunatic Democrat Party . . .
Take away Cook County (with Chicago) and its adjacent counties, and Illinois is a Red State.
Elections are ceasing to be the process by which people are selected for government office.
Increasingly, the selection is made elsewhere, and the election rules are set up to deliver that outcome.
Which is why we ought not to be distracted by fantasies of minorities voting for Trump. It simply does not matter what candidate voters potentially might prefer; it matters only who gets decide how the election procedures are managed.
I should be president. I’d be a better y Id Be a better president but really does it matter?l id only have 4 years. Putin isn’t our enemy the FBI is. I expect a visit shortly
The Pritzker family wealth has proven to be particularly vile and malevolent; Illinois tyrant, tyranny madness, university board/trustee lunacy (go commies, go). There is a reason oligarchs come to be hated.
Walk and chew gum, Steve57.
Of course, even without this new rule, the GOP wasn’t going to be taking over Illinois as the majority.
If the Democrat Convention turns ugly like in 1968, who knows?
Illinois elected a Republican governor that year.
But the Republican Convention will be just up the road in Milwaukee, and protestors will probably turn that ugly too.
_________
I was going to say that maybe the state elected Pritzker because they thought he was too rich to be crooked, but then I saw this:
Toilet scandal in the governor’s mansion?
A contractor removed all the toilets in one of Pritzker’s Gold Coast mansions – and promptly reinstalled a single working toilet in Pritzker’s “hangout/meeting area” after the mansion was deemed uninhabitable. The county inspector’s evaluation cut Pritzker’s property tax bill by $331,000.
An investigation in 2018 by the Cook County inspector general described the incident as a “scheme to defraud,” and Pritzker pledged to repay the money when it was exposed during his gubernatorial campaign. The Pritzkers came under federal investigation following the scandal, making Pritzker yet another Illinois governor whose actions have been called into question for corruption.
Here try this on for size and tell me how a candidate representing the conservative side stands a chance in heck of getting elected. Read it and weep:

The democratic/dictatorial duality. That said, all’s fair in lust and abortion. Throw another baby on the barbie, it’s over, right? I mean, left? The transition is a progressive process. One step forward, two steps backward.
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.” — JFK
Article IV, section 4:
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”
Might be the only way to challenge these shenanigans
In my opinion, Democratic leaders are sons of Satan. Most Democrats are just plain stupid, do not know what the Constitution requires of them. Look at the history of Democrats, members of the KKK, even in our own time. Remember Sen. Byrd!
South of Chicago, that disgusting city, much of Illinois is in the South.
Illinois: Time to slop the governor again.
