Dershowitz on the Trump real estate case; plus Trump Jr.
Dershowitz and Jarrett (Gregg, not Valerie) understand what’s going on here:
And this is a good way to put it, too:
We've reached the point where your political beliefs combined with what venue your case is heard are the primary determinants of the outcome; not the facts of the case!
It’s truly sad what’s happened to our country and I hope others see it before it’s too late to correct course!

The Letisha James and the judge belong in prison.
I repeat here my WSJ comment today:
The Democratic Party takes no prisoners. It is devoted to one singular task, to deconstruct the American Republic, shred its Constitution, and seize and hold power forever against all domestic adversaries.
Nailed it, Cicero.
The all-important question being…how can they be stopped?
(More specifically, how can they be stopped without, in fact, destroying the Republic?…since they are, in essence, explicitly holding the Republic hostage to achieve their megalomanic designs.)
I started reading the comments following Don Jr’s post on X. Just so utterly depressing reading one moronic comment after another expressing gleeful joy over the court decision. It makes me feel like we’re doomed.
Tony-
There is a viciousness, a Schadenfreude, that has taken the country by storm, in a Democratic Party cloak. This fueled Biden’s election win: Take down the big guy, the billionaire, yahoo!
We are in a stormy sea of secular materialism which I expect to take down the Ship of State, with an idiot at the helm.
“The Letisha James and the judge belong in prison.” – John Tyler
At the very least their law licenses should be revoked. They are using the law in an unlawful way.
How can anyone who has ever applied for a mortgage, or a real property secured loan not see the truth that everything Trump is being punished for is a normal practice? Nothing but malice and bending the law to suit their purpose of getting Trump. This has to be stopped. Rogue lawyers make a mockery of our justice system.
“The Democratic Party takes no prisoners. It is devoted to one singular task, to deconstruct the American Republic, shred its Constitution, and seize and hold power forever against all domestic adversaries.” Cicero
That is the grim reality we face.
“how can they be stopped without, in fact, destroying the Republic?…since they are, in essence, explicitly holding the Republic hostage to achieve their megalomaniacal designs.” Barry Meislin
Simple answer; it can’t be. The Marxist cancer has metastasized too deeply and too widely.
The division is too basic, the core on the right will not give up its liberties while the core on the left cannot afford for the right to retain its liberties.
“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” Matthew 12:22-28
Which is not to say that America will fall permanently to the Left. Simply because the basic precepts upon which the Left’s beliefs rest are opposed to reality itself and thus, ultimately unsustainable.
Last century, the Left’s death toll exceeded 100 million. Only the willfully blind imagine that those who lust for power have any moral limits.
Isn’t it “The law is a ass”, rather than “an ass”? Years since I read it.
Re Donald Trump, Jr’s complaint, the same needs be said about the global warming (non) crisis, as demonstrated by the recently concluded Mann v. Steyn (and Simberg) defamation case in DC Superior Court.
Does it have onerous Free Speech implications? Is the right to question AGW orthodoxy and panic threatened? In this estimate in American Thinker, it does because it has:
“The Verdict Against Mark Steyn Effectively Stifles Speech In America”
https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2024/02/the_verdict_against_mark_steyn_effectively_stifles_speech_in_america.html
In support, the anonymous writer calls upon a rare SCOTUS dissent on denying certiorari in this very case, during 2019:
“The petition in this case presents questions that go to the very heart of the constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech and freedom of the press…The controversial nature of the whole subject of climate change exacerbates the risk that the jurors’ determination will be colored by their preconceptions on the matter… If the Court is serious about protecting freedom of expression, we should grant review.“
Hence, this thread by Neo — Q.E.D.
The less than two month’s trial ruled in favor of Mann, but only granted compensation in one dollar amounts — but exacting punishment in $4000 and One million dollar amounts from Simberg and Steyn, respectively.
Why this confusing outcome? All but denying the validity of “defamation” of climate scientist Mann — yet squealing righteously to obey the science orthodoxy?
The jury of 6 apparently had one singular dissenter. They met for about one day for five or six hours. And thus, this lone dissenter squeezed out this thirsted of confusing “compromise” judgement.
Which still leaves freedom to speak about serious and scientific causes in grave doubt — just as Mann’s advocate maliciously intended in his closing arguments (despite an objection by the Defense getting upheld by the Judge)..
Eeyore:
Yes.
A Kangaroo Court knows the outcome before it starts, it’s just getting to that conclusion that is the question.
One hopes these loses will get overturned, but who knows it just won’t go to another Kangaroo Court?
I still think both of DJT loses were law bending just to get him and will never be used again, unless for more political revenge.

I saw and reposted Jr.’s tweet, and it is very sad about US court failure.
It might already be too late for the high flying America the Free plane that is now heading down to change course before the crash.
If it’s not too late, and even if it is, a huge part of improving America is getting more Republicans elected, to Congress, the Senate & President, and get more Rep judges in all jurisdictions. Plus more Rep professors & teachers, and even as entertainers.
That’s a bit why I’m spending more time on substack, among Trump-dislikers, rather than here in Neo’s comfy thoughtful choir (including far more nice ballet than fun young music like Miley Cyrus “Used to be Young”, on my karaoke list to sing.) As I’ve advised Neo before, I suggest those concerned to start your own substack blog and read & comment on stacks you mostly agree with by folks who didn’t support Trump, hoping to convince a few folk to change their political minds. We all know it’s not easy.
The present trend will not end well if the direction is not changed. I doubt Trump will be allowed to win the election. If necessary another James Hodgkinson will be found and directed to assassinate Trump.
The current trends include destroying our military, destroying the dollar, massive corruption in the federal bureaucracy and cultural changes that weaken the basis of our freedom. I expect economic collapse similar to 2008 in the next few years. Another possibility is losing a war, either in Europe or the Pacific.
@Tom Grey
Wise words indeed, and something I should look more into. I have ironically got sucked in to a few different directions, like arguing on Discord and some one on one discussions.
the practical problem, well the census stole a host of seats even before the show began Mark Elias, effectively extorted the Court to surrender a whole bunch of them in a few states, Bill ackman you would think would understand what he has built up, but he gives money to dean phillips who is going nowhere fast
this tribunal is much like the ones presided by beryl Howell in DC against Guiliani, the ones against Steyn, I forget the judge, she was well worthy of his contempt, this is precursor to the way Qadi Bin Mahfouz, bin Amoundi and a host of others employed against broadsheets as well as investigators like Karen Ehrenfeld, Dominion and Smartmatic,
do the next ‘process as punishment’ exercise
Tom+Grey “That’s a bit why I’m spending more time on substack, among Trump-dislikers, rather than here in Neo’s comfy thoughtful choir” Good–it is certainly important to preach to the unconverted, although it’s also useful (and someties psychologically necessary) to interact with other generally like-thinking people.
Do you have your own Substack, or only comment on other ones?…and if the former, how do you attract people, including people of different views who still appear to be sane, to it?
In the same vien as David Foster, a suggestion for Neo in this huge political year.
Perhaps a post on substack authors is called for?
A collection of the most interesting or important voices could be distilled from this as much as from reader nominations in thread comments.
Finally, perhaps Neo can update the sidebar blog roll, supplemented by this latest digital literate relation.
Then, her readers could peruse it, too, as events develop this year.
Some of these cases recently have demonstrated that you win if you choose your venue carefully. The Mann-Steyn case is an example. Mann didn’t present any defense, just claimed to be Mr. science and said those awful right-wing bloggers were saying malicious things about him and denying science. Mr. Mann just showed up on time and played the victim card.
When are you going to report on this case?
Elon Musk’s question was “Given that there are no victims with losses, who is supposed to receive the money?”
Since this was not a civil suit, I guess the state gets the money and uses it to get James and Engoron and Hochul bigger offices.
Apparently, the “No Harm, No Foul,” “No Concrete Injury, No Standing” rule doesn’t apply to state prosecutions.
Ray:
You ask when I’m going to report on the Steyn/Mann case.
It’s my turn to ask you when you’re going to use the “search” function on this blog. If you had, you would have seen I wrote this post about it on February 9, 2024.
The search function is in the upper right sidebar on a desktop or laptop, and towards the bottom on a phone. I’m not sure where it is on a pad because I don’t have one, but I assume it’s in one of those places.
Mike + K:
The present trend is ruinous. In my view, beyond recovery. Too much damage, achieved by the secular progressive socialists since Woodrow Wilson, over 100 years of erosion now.
The American Republic was kind of a beach, subject to erosion and rebuilding, but the rebuilding has long ceased, while assaultive erosion continued.
Those who post here are faint voices in the wilderness, barely audible to the secular materialist horde that poses as equals.
OK, I found the search box. It’s under the picture of the cute girl (I think) holding an apple in front of her face. I was distracted by the picture.
Ray:
Okay, you have redeemed yourself. 🙂
