  1. I met and became casually acquainted with Thompson back in the 70s when he was with Fairport Convention. I worked at a prominent music venue in Denver and Fairpoint played there on several occassions, each time for three to five nights, two sets per night.

This was Fairport Convention’s golden age, when the great Sandy Denny was lead singer.

They were all good people. Their music was incredible.

One night after a show we were all sitting around drinking and yarning, and Sandy and I kissed.

Definitely a highlight of my life.

  2. I think yesterday was the last Warm day, getting into the low 80’s. 60’s today, and then some in low 70’s. Right now it is 46 and the trees are turning fast. I blow them everyday now, will mow up tomorrow. Planted some Tulips and Bearded Iris yesterday, need to transplant some Iris’s this week. Picking up apples, and eating one off the tree. Need to process carrots and Good Wife will process some apples. Maybe make we an Apple Pie for my Birthday on the 17th. I will be 77. I am truly amazed by that.
No comment on the mess in the House, other than to say glad the interim Speaker ousted Polisi from her plush office. Good.

  3. It is reported that Pelosi got evicted because she joined the Blue Balls rebellion after promises were made not to join in. Can’t trust scorpions and actions have consequences.

  4. Fairport Convention (Sandy Denny) and Steeleye Span (Maddy Prior) both showcased women with wonderful voices. But Richard Thompson’s guitar fills steal the song on “Who Knows Where the Time Goes”; still one of my favorite things to listen to (from “Unhalfbricking”).

  5. I’ve seen him live about ten times, the most concerts I’ve ever seen by a single person.

    And most seen overall is…?

  6. I saw Richard once in a very small cafe with about 70 people. My friend is the biggest fan and his brother got to the cafe early so we had tables right in front. After an hour or so Richard asked for requests. Several song suggestions were thrown out which he didn’t know, until someone finally suggested, “How about one of yours”. “Thank you. Thank you very much” was the response. He should be as famous as Eric Clapton for his guitar picking.

  7. There’s nothing quite like an episode of epididymal hypertension followed by blessed relief via ejecting McCarthy from the speaker chair and Pelosi from her cubbyhole. Just goes to show Democrats are not completely useless.

    The RINO hunt continues…

  8. Newsweek does a very LONG piece investigating the salient topic “Donald Trump Followers Targeted by FBI as 2024 Election Nears.”

KNOW YOUR ENEMY. Get used to persecution and prosecution. House Speaker McCarthy did not follow through on releasing ALL J6 video. Nor did he speak-up for those in the DC’s American gulag. Instead, he shook hands and thanked a Cap Hill cop!

Looking at the current entrants to become Speaker, it seems quite likely that his replacement will do better for you and us, We The People.

  9. I can’t get a comment I wrote, on Oct. 4th’s, open thread page, to appear.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  10. Biden, Illegally, I believe, just cancelled $9 billion in student debts.

    HEYYYYYY!

THAT’S THREE BILLION MORE than IRAN GOT!

Biden is holding out on you.

It’s time for you to rush back into the White House, IRAN, and get what you deserve!

You left money on the table!

    Don’t miss out. :p

(The above is written as sarcasm, in case you were not sure.)

  11. There, I just got my comment, about Biden + $9 billion, to appear.

I guess the site’s program didn’t like, or couldn’t accept, the [1st news article’s [link], that I had put on my comment. Cheers.

  12. RE: UFOs and the 1968 Air Force Academy textbook for Physics 370, titled, “Introductory Space Science, vol. II”

I had heard of this Chapter 33, on UFOs, in an old Air Force Academy textbook–since “revised”—and here this apparently authentic chapter is, in both it’s original and revised versions.*

  13. TJ:

Rep. Blue Balls voted with the Democrats to allow his Special House Operation to succeed.

Heard anything about Hunter or the Brandon impeachment process lately? That’s a true puzzle. How could that have happened? Pyros and ADHD.

    Scorpions.

  14. [Richard Thompson] should be as famous as Eric Clapton for his guitar picking.

    David Jacobson:

Teri Gross once interviewed Richard Thompson on “Fresh Air.” (Yes, NPR, I know.) She remarked upon his understated guitar play.

Richard had his guitar hooked up and let loose a shredding guitar solo.

    Both laughed.

  15. TJ:

There are plenty of candidate possibilities who seem as though they’d do better. My first question is whether any of them will be elected. My second question is whether, if elected, that person can deal successfully with all the dissension. If both answers are “yes,” that would be great.

  16. Open thread question for Kate:
I received an email solicitation for Mark Robinson’s campaign for governor of NC.
I have seen a couple of videos of him, and he came across as pretty impressive .. but then perhaps he would as a seasoned politician.
What do you or other responsible NC citizens think of him as your potential governor? Is sending any money to his campaign useful or just money down a rat hole? Thanks.
