“Sanctuary” is apparently just virtue-signaling rhetoric for New York — 15 Comments

  1. Adams may believe himself as to the causes and possible cures. That would be strange in anybody who graduated from elementary school. Except for a liberal or progressive.

On the other hand, he may know better but also knows he’d better not let on. Can’t refer to reality or his base will abandon him, along with state and local democratic/lib/prog organizations. That could be awkward.

So he has to do what he’s currently doing and…nothing will improve, and in fact nothing will stop getting worse.

Does he have enough time in the NYPD for his pension?

  2. The typical AWFL hears “sanctuary city” and thinks “interesting ethnic restaurants, inexpensive maids, nannies, and gardeners, and it makes those horrendous MAGA people mad.”

Reality: I have been to almost all of Latin America and a good bit of the lesser developed world in Asia, mostly for work. These places are a cesspool of corruption, crime, and dysfunction. ANYTHING that makes our country more like those places represents a huge own goal, but our ruling class seems intent on making that happen.

  3. “ Hey Mayor Adams, maybe it’s time to stop being a Democrat and supporting Biden. Because it is Biden and the Democrats who have created this situation, perpetuated it, and defended it.”

Is it only a Democrat thing to ignore the Spirit of the Constitution and grant extraordinary Powers to the President? Or is it the inevitable social corruption that results from a flawed Constitution? Maybe if we had a Constitution where the Citizens were granted Standing to contest government malfeasance things might be different? Today, a Governor got slapped down by a Federal Judge in trying to defend his border. Apparently Federalism is dead in fact and spirit. Not even Congress has standing with judges to contest the President’s actions. There’s only one end to a (naturally) corrupted unlimited government: the same end that has come for every government in the last 50,000 years.

  4. Plenty of these are decent people encouraged by promises of welcome arms, food, housing, and jobs.

Get the message out south of the border that here is poverty, no work, little food, rat infested housing and animus from the locals and many may change their minds.

  5. It’s quite possible that Eric Adams is as incompetent, stupid, dumb and ignorant as Kamala Harris. Though I must admit Adams has superior speaking skills which, as a result, make him a far better bullshit artist. One can at least understand what he is saying.
He is all talk and only talk, but otherwise worthless.
Rest assured when he is no longer the mayor (he probably will win a second term because, well……. NYC voters) he will be hired by Harvard or other institution of “higher learning” so that he can share his knowledge and experience with budding “public servants.”

Adams is now claiming NYC will go bankrupt.
We all know how this will end.

Joe Biden will fork over to NYC and NY State a few billion dollars to “solve” the problem.
    Case closed.

Let’s hope Texas and Florida and other border states send hundreds of busloads to the exact streets where DHS officials and the Bidens live and vacation in Maryland, as well as to NY, Chicago, SF, etc.

  6. Mayor Adams is one of those people who have been mugged by reality,

But probably not enough. Maybe if a gang of his ‘welcomees’ downed him and emptied his pockets he’d have a few more seconds of regret, but again, he’d demand help from the Feds – meaning you and me.

  7. Fullmoon: What about “getting the message out” that if you enter the US illegally, you’ll be arrested and/or sent back? Oh . . . wait. That’s no longer “operative.”

  8. In the 80s “sanctuary cities” were sold to the public because of civil wars in Central America. As I understand it, those wars have been over for some time, but sanctuary cities remain. Crime became the new rationale (when one was even needed), but that seems like something countries ought to be able to deal with on their own. Now sanctuary cities are supposed to be about climate change (if a reason is even needed). I wonder how much any of those justifications have been the true reason for the policies.

Like Biden, Adams was chosen because the alternatives seemed too radical, and like Biden, Adams never showed the common sense and independence of mind that voters thought he might have. After his election, Adams even compared himself to Biden — they were both “winners” riding a high wave. The comparison was ridiculous because Biden’s flaws were clear by the time, but it’s become all too apt.

  9. I think perhaps Adams’ comments have been misconstrued to mean that he opposes illegal immigration and wishes something to be done about it. Not so, good readers. What he means is that the federal government must send his city billions of dollars with which to grease his palm and all the others in the system who benefit financially from illegal immigration; the NGO’s and “non-profits” whose employees make a very nice living, thank you taxpayers, from importing and dispersing illegals once they get here. Adams, like every other hypocritical democrat socialist-in-name-only merely wants to sound off on the issue rather vaguely, so stupid voters can draw the conclusion that he opposes illegal immigration but those in the know in the federal government will respond by sending bags of cash into his coffers.

  10. It will be interesting to see whether Mayor Adams means what he says respecting the supposed destruction of his city by this whole affair, because if he does, then I would think certain kinds of preventive actions would be indicated. If, after a period of observation, we see that he’s either unwilling or unable to take those actions, then we’ll have our answer.
