  1. “How Green was My Desert”(?)…
    – – – – – – – – – – – –
    A musing:
“What Are The Three Worst Things You Could Possibly Imagine The Federal Government Or President Ever Doing?”
    https://www.manhattancontrarian.com/blog/2023-5-17-what-are-the-three-worst-things-you-could-possibly-imagine-the-federal-government-of-president-ever-doing

…The point, of course, being that one DOES NOT have to imagine…
(Nor are the “things” limited to “three”…)

What one might try to “imagine”, OTOH, is how to get out of the train wreck that “Biden” has planned for the country and “his” extraordinary—and ongoing—success in implementing that plan.

  2. In the Egyptian Museum in Cairo there is a display of artifacts from the people who began moving into the Nile Valley in ca. 6000-5000 BC, to escape the drying of the Sahara.

  3. I was posted in both Chad and Niger. Their capitals are in the Sahel area, but we would travel north into the true desert, and south into the savanna regions. It was amazing to observe the change from one climate region to the next, and they would shift a bit depending on the severity of the rainy season. Watching the Sahel turn green and verdant when the rains arrived (dependent on if it was a good rainy season), sometime around late May – early June, was one of the most beautiful natural sights I’ve ever witnessed.

  4. Poisonous Leftist ideology–in all it’s many shapes and forms–has permeated, has wormed its way into every aspect of our society.

Of the videos I have seen of people protesting to school boards about pornographic books in school libraries, this former school teacher organizes and communicates her very logical arguments in the clearest and most forceful way.

I particularly like the analogy she makes between the treatment of possibly harmful food provided in school cafeterias, and books provided in libraries for students to consume.

  5. North Africa was the grain bread basket for Rome and Carthage in historical times.

Just to expand on this after the 3rd punic war the Romans took over Carthage and used it to grown their wheat. (Then centuries later the Vandals came in and took it over but eventually rejoined with the Romans.)

  6. and a century later, they took over numidia, the land of yugurta, that was an eight year war

  7. From the Constitutional scholar who suggested using the Logan Act against Michael Flynn…
“Biden Suggests He Can Raise Debt Ceiling Without GOP Support Using 14th Amendment”—
    https://www.theepochtimes.com/biden-suggests-he-can-raise-debt-ceiling-without-gop-support-using-14th-amendment_5281015.htm

…Wherein Kevin McCarthy makes a bit of a jest:
“Unfortunately, the socialist wing of the Democrat Party appears to be in control—especially with President Biden out of the country…”

  8. … so they get almost through the video without any woke nonsense, then IN THE SAME BREATH he mentions that the earth has gone through repeated wet/dry periods Due To Fluctuating Solar Radiation – but sticks in “and we have to account for human-caused warming too”…. After he just demonstrated that these natural cycles dwarf human activity.

    Oy.

  9. I’m not a no-hoper, I do have hopes civilization can be salvaged, although such hopes are rather small.

None the less, no matter what, the sun rose this morn and will probably rise tomorrow, so I’ll do my best to get me and mine through the day and be prepared for whatever comes our way.

I suggest others do the same, store goods, hoard paper books, develop alternative communications, commerce, etc. No matter what comes, such efforts aren’t a waste.

Put not your trust in princes, banks, media. the uni-party.

Do what you can as best as you can today, tomorrow and the next day.

  10. }}} North Africa was the grain bread basket for Rome and Carthage in historical times.

I was about to note this, but it was true even for early Byzantium. In fact, the socio-political event that led to the “official” switch between the “Western Roman Empire” and the beginning of the “Byzantine Empire”, ca. 600 AD, the first new emperor came from the middle of the Sahara region.

Now, I’m also going to note the quietly untouched disconnect here:

The Earth, and the Sahara, were “several degrees warmer than now”, which led to the Sahara being greener?!?

Anyone noting a disconnect here, between the factual historical evidence and what the AGW scaremongers are screaming?

    Anyone?

    Anyone?

    Bueller?

  11. Pushback in Arizona:
    “AZ Senate Majority Leader Sonny Borelli issues letter to every county election office notifying them no electronic voting machine can be used in ‘24 election;
“Katie Hobbs vetoed law, but Constitution gives plenary authority to state legislature so they’re overriding her.”
    https://twitter.com/DC_Draino/status/1660717421710155780
    + Bonus
Signature validators in AZ worked from home unsupervised, apparently! “At least 250,000 ballots in question.”…

  12. North Africa is still good for agriculture. Never stopped being. The Sahara dried back up long before the Roman Empire formed, in fact before the Sumerian civilization formed.

Any problems North Africa’s been having with agriculture are not due to its climate; rather to political factors.

  13. I’m liking the 2018 mini-series adaptation of “Vanity Fair” from Amazon.

Lavish period reproduction, decent acting and reasonable faithfulness to Thackery. Plus Michael Palin playing Thackery as the somewhat unreliable narrator!

Beyond Kubrick’s “Barry Lyndon” I know little of Thackery. But those 19th C boys and girls were rather observant writers of their lives and times.

Just as Shakespeare was of his.

  14. THANKS FOR the find, huxley. The 19th century novel witnessed the apogee of its form, perhaps. And the sense and sensibility of olden times is much needed to stand firm in these besotted Newer Times.

  15. Now THAT’s rather convenient!
    (Replete with Nazi flag!!)
“U-Haul truck crashes near White House in Lafayette Square”—
    https://nypost.com/2023/05/22/u-haul-truck-crashes-near-white-house-leading-to-hotel-evacuation/
Hmm. Wonder if “anyone” will make the connection between this “event” and the GOP’s “responsibility for the “failure” of the budget default “negotiations”…or whether it will be the same old, same old “Our Country is under siege from MAGA Republican, Trumpist white SUPREMACISTS…”

    + Bonus:
“Biden again claimed son Beau died ‘in Iraq’ to Marines at Japan stop”—
    https://nypost.com/2023/05/22/biden-again-claimed-son-beau-died-in-iraq-to-marines-at-japan-stop/

Let’s see now, meritocracy, accountability, honesty, credibility…who needs ’em.
We have a DEMOCRACY to protect!!!

  16. Barry Meislin, the elimination of electronic voting machines in Arizona, or anywhere else, is a good first step.
