  1. So we don’t know what we don’t know.
I found this video fascinating. Just imagine that all the climate change happened without ICE and oil.
By the way there are some that think the “Old Way” of oil formation is wrong.

  2. we’ve been here for a blink of a eye in geologic time, washington dc was underwater 80,000 years ago,

  3. SHIREHOME,

It is interesting, regarding oil. The prevailing view, that it comes from carbon first made above the surface by plants and animals, then sequestered underground for eons; isn’t as definite as once thought. There are some interesting theories that the Earth may have other ways of making oil that make it less of a limited resource.

  4. It is inconvenient and ignored, but geologists used to know that sea levels rose and fell and continental glaciers came and went and climates changed long before man. The lost knowledge of the past.

The abiogenic theory of oil and gas has been tested by drilling very deep very expensive scientific wells. Most recently in Sweden in the 1990s (IIRC). No oil or gas found. Sorry.

  5. (Sorry, I didn’t mean plants and animals “make” the element carbon. Through metabolism carbon is sequestered in animal and plant life, which often enters the Earth after death.)

  6. Here you go, Siljan Ring and abiogenic oil and gas. Wickedmedia, information you can trust!

    an excerpt

    Oil and gas prospecting
In accordance with theories about abiogenic petroleum (that hydrocarbons can be formed without involving material from dead plants and animals), astrophysicist Thomas Gold suggested that there might be major deposits of oil and natural gas in the area. …..” Nope.

One of the directional drillers I worked under while in North Dakota had worked on that well for Halliburton. Mostly he talked about the Swedish young women and the nude beaches. Must have been in the summer.

  7. PA Cat,

Thanks for posting that video on the Degas’ “Little Ballerina.” That was very interesting! The piece always struck me emotionally. Now I understand there is a lot going on with it.

  8. If you are in the mood for some complete silliness, check out the other Bud Light ad campaign. I don’t recall having seen any of the Game of Thrones motif ads, though I’m sure many of you have.

Of the great many ads, I’m still chucking over the one that wasn’t very good but had two medieval soldiers loading a cart and one says, “Do you think we’ll have time for our spin class after this?”

I’m actually a little surprised at the sheer quantity of ads. I stopped at 26 min. but there must be triple that amount.

  9. sudan is a place with bad juju, cleo noel and moore were killed by habbashs men,
if memory serves abu nidal got his start there, bin laden got his crib there, then susan rice decided guess what lets send him to afghanistan, where its impossible to get at him, under trump they had pushed bashir out, and arranged some degree of peace, but mean tweets, so now we have militias fighting and bio labs compromised, thats a much better tradeoff, sarc,

  10. I visited the Grand Canyon 10 years ago and posed the question, “How old is that stuff we’re looking at?” to one of the park rangers. There was a time when they’d launch into an inspired description of scientific revelation but then, and probably still, you’re told to visit the park bookstore and purchase what you “believe.” There are books available speaking in terms of billions of years and other books describing how God created the Earth about 5,000 years ago, did it all in six days, and placed layers of sediment and fossils into place to see if you would believe His good works or the lies of the Devil.

  11. ***Trigger Warning***

My comment will talk about sexual assault, rape, and similar topics.

The (Ms.) E. Jean Carroll vs. Trump court case, where E. Jean Carroll accuses Trump of rape, is going on.

This is just something that I wonder about-

[In theory]- if someone accused a famous person, a well known rich person, or a famous- ex-member of the Federal Government, or a similar person- of rape, and brought that accused person to trial-

OK, now that this (fictional) accuser has brought this person to trial-

if this rape never happened, in this nation’s current feeling about rape + similar crimes, which seems to have a lot of hysteria about rape, + horrified feelings about rape + sexual crimes, [once the theoretical, fake, has been taken to trial], could the accuser DROP this case, + look good to the public?

This might be a [an accuser has “a tiger by the tail” situation].

After an accuser takes this type of theoretical case to trial, I think they’d have to go through with it, hoping that the defendant is found guilty.

I don’t think that that an accuser [could] drop a case like this, in the middle of the case- by saying-
[I’ve made a mistake, this accusation is false], or by saying [I don’t remember clearly, now. Maybe the rape was done by someone else], and not look bad to the court + to the public.

I’m not trying to dismiss anyone’s accusations or rape, or accusations of sexual crimes. However, false accusations of rape, and false accusations of other sexual crimes, have been done in the past, in history.

In 1942, two accusations of statutory rape were taken against the 1940s film actor, Errol Flynn. The statutory rape charges + rape case(s), were dropped against Errol Flynn. That means Errol Flynn was acquitted.

It is possible to falsely accuse someone of rape, or falsely accuse someone of other types of sexual crimes.

Did this event/crime between E. Jean Carroll and Donald Trump actually happen…it is impossible for me to know, today.

But could E. Jean Carroll drop this court case and (not) get a huge, bad reputation from dropping this case?

That doesn’t seem possible, at this time.

  12. so the important details of this story was hoffman one of the Russian hoaxers is behind this lawsuit, he set the phony footprints re judge roy moore, second part is fat bastard George Conway publicized, third is the cross examination at inner city press, shows shes’ stark raving mad, forth, trump toyed with a run in 1999, and did
a trial run in 2011, before committing in 2016, why didn’t she come forward then

  13. Is there anyone who pushes the idea of abiogenic oil saying that it is being FORMED at a depth that can be currently reached by drilling? I was under the impression that the theory has the new oil moving up and accumulating in reachable reservoirs from very deep in the planet.

  14. Kate,

That is great news. Now, can the same happen for those swing states? I doubt it.

  15. Jon, A lot of info out there. Probably won’t hear much about it until the ‘climate crowd’ find a new ‘god’.

From the web: 1. Exhaustion of Fossil Fuels (there’s more oil reserves now than when that panic was on)
    2. Mass Starvation through overpopulation (our food production has increased, while rate of population growth has decreased)
    3. Ozone Depletion (seems to have already repaired itself)
    4. Global Cooling (Replaced by global warming)
    5. Global Warming (Replaced by Climate change)
    6. Climate Change. (not in evidence over the last 30 years)

  16. abiognenic oil and the flat earth; something has to lubricate those plate thingies ….. 🙂

  17. TR,

First, the type of rape trial* matters. I know there are a lot of attorneys here, including OGH (Our Great Hostess), so please correct the many mistakes I am about to make; but rape in all U.S. states is a criminal offense. There are varying statutes of limitations (in some states it is infinity years for certain crimes).

?“A tort* is an act or omission that gives rise to injury or harm to another and amounts to a civil wrong for which courts impose liability. In the context of torts, “injury” describes the invasion of any legal right, whereas “harm” describes a loss or detriment in fact that an individual suffers.”

A crime is a harmful or threatening offense that the state or federal government sees as illegal. Crime is explicitly defined by existing laws, and it is prohibited and punishable.”

Depending on where a purported rape occurs and the statute of limitations in that jurisdiction the victim may or may not have the ability to stop a rape case from going to trial. If the accusation is made within the statute of limitations and the State’s attorney (likely a district attorney) determines there is sufficient evidence to indict the accused the case is out of the accuser’s hands at that point. Unless all the evidence comes from the accuser’s claims and the DA decides there is no longer a case.

I believe in the case of all Torts the accuser determines whether or not to pursue the case to trial. In other words, even if there is a mountain of evidence proving the accused’s guilt in a Tortious matter, the accuser can “drop charges” and then there will be no trial. So the accusation of rape can also be a Tortious case.

*Torts are a subset of civil law, so it’s actually civil vs. criminal. And sometimes civil crimes can be brought to trial even after the statute of limitations has run out criminally. Or, like in the O.J. Trial, the accused is found innocent in a criminal trial, but a civil trial is brought (where the preponderance of guilt is less onerous) and the defendant is found guilt civilly.

  18. Geology 101. What’s hard to wrap your mind around is the time scale.

I have seen formations that are 1000 feet thick. How long did conditions stay stable in that area for that amount of deposition to occur? A real long time.

How long does it take to bury formations deep under other depositional layers and then be lifted up by mountain building? Again, a long, long time.

Our lives are too short and our history of knowledge of the Earth so brief, it’s very hard to understand with any certainty just what it all means.

The internal combustion engine was invented in 1649 but wasn’t perfected for use on autos until the late 1800s. Basically, two normal human lifetimes. Seems a longtime, but in geological time a mere second.

The changes that have occurred on Earth are mind boggling and really hard to grasp. Compare that with the Climate alarmists’ theories that the Earth is going to end in 10 years or some other cherry-picked amount of time.

The theory that oil is continuously produced in the crust is unproven. The old, theory plusdire3ctional drilling and fracking is providing us with a lot more than we ever knew was possible.

Oil and gas are trapped in many “tight” formations. The hydrocarbons are there, but there is not enough permeability to tap them in the old way, which was to drill into a formation with the necessary permeability and let the oil or gas flow to the well.

When Iwas working in the oil business (1954-55), we drilled wells that went through the Mesa Verde formation. The Mesa Verde formation is rich in coal beds that has tight sandstone layers in between. We could see on the electric logs of the wells that those sandstones were full of gas. At the time there was no way to tap them. Now, with directional drilling and fracking, that gas is producible.

The same applies to many oil-rich tight formations. Once not productive. Now, available to produce. A veritable revolution in the amount of hydrocarbons that can be produced.

  19. I’m seeing a lot of bizarre reporting regarding Tucker Carlson and FoxNews.

    1. I have no, actual knowledge of Carlson’s contract(s) with FoxNews.
    B) I have been on both sides of employment contracts many times and have a good, working knowledge of both sides’ typical motivations and what can and cannot be done legally.
III: I have never worked in the entertainment industry, so there may be nuances there I am ignorant of.

Headlines that are claiming FoxNews is trying to “keep Tucker Carlson off the air through the end of the 2024 election” are almost certainly wrong and are being written by people with no experience in employment law, or are simply clickbait.

I’ve seen a $20 million annual figure for Carlson’s current contract in several, credible sources, and read it runs through December, 2024. Carlson can sign a contract with numerous media companies right now (he almost certainly has the offers in writing) for more than that*. FoxNews has no leverage there.

FoxNews probably doesn’t care if Tucker Carlson talks about the election between now and election day. But FoxNews would like to prohibit Tucker Carlson from talking about FoxNews.

Tucker Carlson is going to make a lot of money somewhere other than FoxNews. But $40 million is real money, even if one is earning more somewhere else. Also, there is principle. Carlson almost certainly feels wrong and would like FoxNews to suffer financially for his mistreatment (in his view). Carlson has a legitimate case against FoxNews violating his contract. He can bring them to court for that. And a trial means discovery. That is a huge piece of leverage Carlson has.

FoxNews also has a claim that Carlson violated the contract. Contracts are long, convoluted, a lot of words… FoxNews can certainly find some credible wrong Carlson did regarding the contract terms, and vice versa. However, a trial means discovery, which is something FoxNews does not want and both sides know that.

It is almost certain what is going on is that FoxNews is offering Carlson a pretty decent sum of money that terminates the existing contract, allows Carlson to work somewhere else, immediately (or in a week, or a month…) BUT gets Carlson to agree to not talk about FoxNews, or certain aspects of FoxNews.

Employment law tends to favor the employee and Carlson is holding a really good hand in this game of Poker. He knows it. FoxNews knows it and FoxNews knows he and his agent and attorneys know it. FoxNews isn’t going to play hardball and try to hold him to his existing contract through the end of December. They have almost no hope of that winning in court and they don’t want to go to court and have Carlson air their dirty laundry.

FoxNews is trying to offer Carlson enough money to get him to agree to speak well of them going forward and the fact that Carlson hasn’t made a public statement, or filed a lawsuit is an indication he is open to that idea and the money they are offering is substantial.

*The DailyWire recently offered Steven Crowder $50 million/year. Spotify gave Joe Rogan $100 million over 5 or 10 years. I think Howard Stern has a similar deal with Sirius and Megyn Kelly’s deal with Sirius has to be near or above that. There is a lot of money in podcasting and streaming for personalities with a built in following.

  20. To enhance their reputation, the MSM censors those who contradict the narrative, and sometimes rub it in by announcing what they censored. So smart! So powerful! Thank you so much for blocking that misinformation!

    ABC News censors RFK Jr.

Fortunately, there’s a check and balance dynamic between evil and stupidity. They’re too stupid to get how ham handed they appear.

  21. tucker has said a great deal in the last three years, which scorched more sacred cows, than the hindenberg in lakehurst new jersey, all concerning fundamental questions, about our society our economics as well as our history,

are his surmises alway right, no one is not even rush limbaugh, but he’s been right more than most other parties, it seems the lying liars like tater stelter get a chicken leg up, (he tried to make the most of his times piece, lol)

  22. RTF–

About the link to Aloi’s video– you are more than welcome! I’ve come to recognize that I owe a kind of left-hand gratitude to the idiots who tried to deface Degas’ “Little Dancer” yesterday– that was what motivated me to learn more about the piece. I’ve known about Degas’ paintings of ballerinas and the ballet for some years, but not so much about his sculpture.

Maybe Neo will put up a post some day about ballet as subject matter in the visual arts. I’d really enjoy it, as she knows so much about dance and doubtless has some good insights into the skills involved in drawing, painting, or sculpting dancers.

  23. Another take on the Carlson ouster.

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/04/27/exclusive-disarray-consumes-fox-news-as-murdochs-attempt-to-reassert-control-with-carlson-bongino-ousters/

    Interesting Rufus.

My guess is that if the above paragraph were true, Tucker would jump at it and this thing would be over and the contract severed, which is not the case. The converse is that I’m wrong and Tucker is too pissed off and will try to take FNC to the cleaners.

That FNC would try to keep Carlson on contract throughout the time until Dec. 2024 seems like an unwinnable strategy. Unless they are hoping to tie things up in court until then.

  24. TommyJay,

If what I wrote is true, and it almost certainly is. This is fairly typical stuff. The reason Carlson hasn’t pounced on the offer is because he wants the number to be larger.

    1. Carlson has an existing contract with FoxNews.
    B) Contracts are slippery things. Both parties can almost always find a viable clause to get out of one, or enforce one, that has enough merit to warrant a court trial or mediation. Carlson has already had his dirty laundry aired in leaks from discovery in the recent Dominion case. He probably has nothing additional to fear from going to court over his contract. FoxNews has a lot to fear from such a case. And, as I wrote, courts tend to favor employees over corporations in employment law.
Gamma – Tucker is not on FoxNews, FoxNews is airing a different show in the time slot. One or both parties agreed to part ways prior to 8pm eastern last Monday.
iv) Glenn Beck has publicly stated he has an offer for Carlson. Others have hinted at the same. Carlson will make more between now and December 31, 2024 than if he had stayed with FoxNews.
5: Since Carlson hasn’t publicly stated the words “FoxNews” or “contract” he has not decided on a scorched Earth approach. He has a lot of leverage right now, vis a vis the news cycle. 70 million people just tuned into Twitter to watch him spout platitudes. This implies he is open to severing ties with FoxNews on decent terms.
zeta: Carlson has no need to jump at anything, unless and until FoxNews comes up with a number he likes. As with anything, the sky is not the limit. Carlson and his attorneys know there is some number that FoxNews will not go over, but this delay makes me believe Carlson and his team are working on getting as close to that number as he can.

  25. hes left enough bread crumbs, to be the paul revere is a bit exhausting, it did take a good chunk out of fox nation, the fledgling doc outfit (which we remember fired lara logan, for pointing out what a slithy tove fauci was, in addition to our new allies in the caucasus,

  26. something like that,

well if you listen closely he incapsulated at least the last three years, anyone can bring on lindsey graham and miss the mark, on every issue of relevance, this country is being carved up and served on a platter, by factions who are clearly beyond accountability,

we want a senate that tries to keep some semblance of sanity, they stuff a gormless golem in our face and tell us he is some kind of trendsetter, we want roads and airports and trains that deliver passengers and freight, with a reasonable degree of efficiency, they put a howdy doody puppet that is on about racist roads to al sharpton, and so on, we don’t want children bent mutilated et al, they put raggedy ann to say it’s fine,

  27. Hi RTF,

Thank you for your observations about: the trial, + types of trials.
That is good in formation to know.
    Cheers.

  28. Thanks Rufus.

I would have thought that Carlson would want to back onto some broadcast medium soon, but a little vacation and a possible extra 20 or $50M would likely give most anyone pause.

  29. Fox’s market value dropped about 1B after the firing. Let’s see, that makes Tucker’s market value right around…(calculating…)
