Ae you going to watch Biden’s State of the Union speech tonight? — 65 Comments

  1. Following precedent,McCarthy gonna rip up the speech.

Just kidding. Would be fun if he actually did it, in a humorous way, mocking Pelosi and the left.

  2. Fullmoon–

I’d settle for McCarthy’s releasing a large white balloon and watching it float over the chamber.

  3. I would prefer to see Huckabee Sanders afterwards. I’ll try to catch it tomorrow. I am not staying up till .4 AM here in Germany.

  4. Nope. Not interested in anything Brandon has to say. I wonder if he’ll finally crash and burn with a Corn Pop story on live TV?

  5. I’d love to watch but I’ve got a bathroom to clean. According to the New York Times though old Joe’s been working extra hard to overcome any problems that may arise due to his “stutter”.

  6. Mary McCarthy’s line about Lillian Hellman applies.

Biden hasn’t even given the speech and I can say with a great deal of confidence that he lied his butt off.

I can’t remember where I read this today, but another great line — when he says ridiculously stupid things, how can we know whether it was the written speech or the dementia?

  7. Anybody know whether Hunter will be there all duded-up to escort “Dr.” Jill to her throne? Or whether Frau Biden will be seated where she can look daggers at the VP throughout Brandon’s speech? I’m not going to watch the farce, but the MSM morning-after postmortem should be interesting.

  8. “Anybody know whether Hunter will be there all duded-up to escort “Dr.” Jill to her throne? ”

No, but Insider Trading King Paul Pelosi is a special guest in the Biden box!!! Sure it will be about those terrible MAGA’s in San Francisco that are hiding behind every tree and bush.

  9. I guess I’ll watch it. The State of the Union is certainly dire. It is dire as a consequence of the deliberate ruinous direction of Joe Biden who should be referred to as “The Snake of the Union”. Biden is a proven liar and is controlled by the snake described in the Book of Genesis, who is the father of lies.

  10. Dennis Prager years ago made me realize its the transcript you need to read much more than watching it. Dennis would read Barky’s speeches and you would read its was nothing often than made any sense. Since doing this have noticed some of Sundowner’s speeches have been cleaned up of some of his incoherent remarks

  11. I would love for McCarthy to take a big Sharpie and at the end of every page of Biden’s speech write LIES in bold text, hold it up for the camera and throw it away throughout the speech. The reaction of the presstitutes would be awesome!

  12. I find it hard to watch any major political speech nowadays because we know there is no longer anything authentic or personal about them. They’re all just highly crafted political screeds.

    Mike

  13. I will be polite and maintain the decorum of the Blog and just say NO

    NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO

  14. I’ll look at the DrunkBlogging link at PJ Media until I fall asleep.

    Kate:

    That’s my plan!

I’ll probably throw down a few glasses of wine and nosh some smoked salmon. But not to the point of DrunkBlogReading.

  15. I think I have a fairly good idea what the State of the Union is at present, thank you very much. I’ll be d*mned if I’ll watch that lyin’ fool brag about it.

  16. No, don’t watch them, Democrat or Republican, makes no difference.

I rely instead on folks like you, Neo, to provide an analysis.

  17. I was curious about the history of SOTU.
    __________________________

Woodrow Wilson’s State of the Union in 1913 was the first to be delivered aloud since John Adams delivered his. (During the Adams speech, a Democratic-Republican representative from Vermont was almost expelled for being a “diabolical personage.”)

Thomas Jefferson decided to just send a copy of his presidential to-do list over to Congress and let legislators read it at their own pace, instead of forcing them to offer a response immediately. He also thought a State of the Union speech felt a bit too much like a “speech from the throne,” says Michael Beschloss, a historian of the American presidency, and emulating the crown felt a little “too soon” for the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Woody Wilson started the SOTU as we know it. Not a good sign.

    Thumbs up, Tommy J.

  18. Oh Lordie,

“We’re going to replace those lead pipes …,” says Joe Biden.

Lead pipes? Is he talking about Pompei? OK, there are older copper pipes with either some lead in the solder used in the sweat fittings. Or tiny trace amounts in the copper itself. But no; No lead pipes.

  19. Re: Lead pipes

    TommyJay:

Lately I’ve been nostalgic for the lead-pipe, bottom-line cruelty of 80s/90s CEOs.

    Good times!

  20. huxley,
Yes, Tucker stated a couple times that the president is required to give a SOTU address by the Constitution. Well no, he/she isn’t. The president is required to deliver that information to congress, not necessarily in an address. Kudos to that other TommyJay, President Jefferson.

  21. “I think I’d rather pass a kidney stone than Let’s Go Brandon.”

Ok om…that made me laugh. Well done.

  22. I wonder how many people will not watch the SOTU because they simply don’t want to be exposed to the reality of Joe Biden. Cable news ratings have fallen off a cliff and the come down from the Trump sugar high and other things contribute, but I wonder how much is due to normies who deep down KNOW they screwed up in voting for Biden and are trying to hide from that realization?

    Mike

  23. Stephen Green AKA VodkaPundit came through. So many great lines.
    __________________________

Biden almost made it through the intro without stumbling but then did pretty much right away. He’s doing that rushed-high-energy thing that makes me think he might be a little overmedicated….

Tomorrow’s big meme should be “Old Man Yells at Infrastructure.”

    Make it so, people.

Biden says, “We’re just getting started” on the spending and that’s what scares me….

He’s going to sleep for 48 hours when he comes down from this trip.

  24. Ha. Five stages of grief. DABDA. B is for Bargaining.
Kind of like, “Maybe he’ll forgive my student debt, because I voted for him.”

  25. CapnRusty says, “It was awful.” and Fullmoon, “Saw some highlights.”

I take comfort from the fact that it’s only a little more than a week (8 days for some teams, 9 for others, 10 for the Cleveland Used-to-be-Indians) for pitchers and catchers to report for Spring Training.

    https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/2023-mlb-spring-training-schedule-when-do-pitchers-and-catchers-report

It’s something to get me past knowing that we have at least one more Biden SOTU to endure.

  26. Watched the whole thing. It was a hoot. Lots of great laugh lines. He’s proposing another few trillion in spending and he’s gonna make those evil corporations and Dady Warbucks billionaires pay for it. Yeah, Joe. 🙂

Jor’s going to lower drug prices and make O Care permanent. Also, a program to pay for nursing care for senior citizens who want to stay in their homes. You know who’s going to pay for it? Corps and Dady Warbucks. 🙂

Joe will veto any bill to cut or eliminate Medicare and Social Security. Delivered as he claimed that is the GOP plan. That’s rich, Joe. 🙂

We’re going to need fossil fuels for another ten years, but those devil oil companies better not use profits to buy back stock, he said while proclaiming himself a capitalist. In what universe is he living? 🙂

It was an agonizing laundry list of things he wants to spend money on and “finish the job.” Delivered in an earnest manner as if all of it could be paid for if everyone pays their fair share. Look out you tax cheats! 🙁

I guess I’ve become too cynical, I kept laughing and chuckling as he shouted out his slogans and plans. He’s like a reverse Scrooge. Counting all the money he would spend if only the tax evaders would just pay up.

Not mentioned were the balloon and China. Hmm.

Governor Sara Huckabee Sanders was brutal. She didn’t mince words in declaring his presidency a failure. Some may feel she was too tough, but she didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. She’s got grit.

  27. We’ve a heap of mental adjustments to make as baseball fans too, PA+Cat, what with bigger bags; pitchclocks; abolished shifts [2-a-side-second] and infielders feet on the dirt; limited pickoff throws; every team’s schedule playing every other team (fewer in-division games, so leveling the field for the tougher division teams over-against the weaker division teams); all along with our ordinary efforts to keep up with new personnel on the rosters (trades, free-agents coming and going, up-and-comer newbies, coaches, etc.). Whooof. Busy times.

  28. sdferr–

Do you think we’ll be spared having to watch Brandon “throw” out the first pitch at the Nationals’ home opener this year (maybe with Hunter as catcher)?

  29. Off the top of my head? Hunter could catch the clap mebbe, but the drool out of Daddie’s hand is doubtful. You and I (in the best of cases) may just escape having to witness the event.

  30. Speaking of witnessing: It looks as if “Dr.” Jill, wearing a dress in a shade of purple “bright enough to make the Baby Jesus cry” (as my mother’s younger sister would have put it), walked over to the Second Gentleman (aka Mr. VP) and kissed him directly on the lips: “The pair continued to hold hands in the moments after the cozy display as Biden positioned herself on the other side of Emhoff. No one in the immediate vicinity seemed fazed by the kiss between the President’s wife and Vice President’s husband. The group continued to clap through the peculiar pecking.”

    Photo at the link: https://nypost.com/2023/02/07/jill-biden-doug-emhoff-share-strange-kiss-at-state-of-the-union/

One commenter remarked, “It’s not like she hasn’t done it before.” Maybe “Dr.” Jill wants to start rumors about the state of the VP’s union.

  31. PA Cat, this morning that photo at the NY Post won’t load; probably half the country is trying to look at it. What’s the matter with these people?

  32. Speaking of the NY Post, they didn’t seem particularly impressed…
“Biden tangles with GOP in raucous State of the Union — barely mentions China”—
    https://nypost.com/2023/02/07/biden-tangles-with-gop-in-raucous-state-of-the-union/
    Opening graf:
“President Biden’s State of the Union address promised a call for unity, but his repeated pokes at Republicans — complete with glaring falsehoods and several disputed claims — saw the speech devolve into a near-shouting match Tuesday night….”
    IOW, no surprises…
Not sure, though, how they haven’t yet understood that “President” Biden is allowed to lie, encouraged to lie. Expected to lie….

(And Romney goes after Santos…with Biden lying left, right and center, front stage and back. Well, Santos IS a pretty soft target, I guess… Says one heckuvalot about Romney, though…not that much more need be said about Pierre Delecto…)

  33. Then there’s this rather curious observation from Legal Insurrection:
    ‘Democrats and Media Suddenly Care About Decorum and Respect After Biden SOTU Address;
‘ “The behavior of a sizeable group of Republican legislators tonight was outrageous and disgusting.” ‘—
    https://legalinsurrection.com/2023/02/democrats-and-media-suddenly-care-about-decorum-and-respect-after-biden-sotu-address/

    As they say, “absolutely shocking”!
(Those shrinking-violet, 99.44%-pure, prim and pristine Democrats must have been utterly scandalized…)

    +Bonus:
Step right up, Ladies ‘n Gentlemen (even if we can’t define ’em):
Democratic Psychopath very worried about Democracy in Israel!
    “Adam Schiff ‘very concerned’ about Israeli judicial reform;
“California Democratic congressman says he is ‘very concerned’ about proposals that ‘would make Israel less democratic’.”—
    https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/367139
…which might be—no doubt, should be—interpreted as meaning that in Israel, democracy is alive and well…and even flourishing!…

  34. Kate– I’m not sure why you had trouble getting the photo at the link to load; I checked it just now and it’s working as it did last night. You might be right about too many people trying to read the online article at the same time. BTW, I noticed that there are a bunch of new comments this morning referring to the tangled history of “Dr.” Jill’s affair with JoJo while she was still married to her first husband. The Bidens really could star in an updated version of Peyton Place, couldn’t they?

  35. I saw some clips in which Republicans, and McCarthy, outright laughed at Biden statements. The old protocol of showing respect was broken when Pelosi stood up and tore up Trump’s speech copy in a public display of contempt.

It seems more realistic for the opposition to call out lies when they are being uttered.

  36. PA Cat, there’s plenty of evidence that the Biden clan is a sick group. (I did get to see the picture.)

  37. Well, the NY Post is on a roll…as befits the Paper of Record (which it shares together with the Babylon Bee)…
“Biden’s State of the Union set new records for dishonesty and emptiness”—
    https://nypost.com/2023/02/07/bidens-state-of-the-union-set-new-records-for-dishonesty-and-emptiness/
“Biden a laugh riot in flub-filled State of the Union, opens with a Schumer gaffe”—
    https://nypost.com/2023/02/08/biden-oddly-calls-sen-chuck-schumer-minority-leader-at-state-of-the-union-speech/

    + Bonus:
Extra credit for anyone who can wrap their heads around the “logic” described in this article…(on why it would be entirely “unethical” to disclose the names of the buyers of Hunter’s masterpieces)…
“Hunter Biden’s art dealer refuses to give buyer names to House committee”—
    https://nypost.com/2023/02/07/hunter-biden-art-dealer-refuses-to-give-names-to-house-committee/
A hint of what you’re up against (should you decide to take up the challenge): The “ETHICAL CONCERNS” of the “Biden” WH! (That’s right! I kid you not…)
    Key grafs:
‘… The Post has seen the letter from attorney William Pittard, who represents Berges and Georges Berges Galleries LLC [the gallery that shows and sells H. Biden’s “art”]. It notes that providing information about the buyers would violate White House rules that were set up specifically to deal with the sale of Hunter Biden’s artwork in 2021.
‘ “Providing the documents and information requested in your letter seemingly would defeat the efforts of Mr. Biden and the White House to avoid the ‘serious ethics concerns’ that you raise,” writes Pittard, citing a July 2021 press briefing in which then-press secretary Jen Psaki laid out the ground rules for the sale of the art.
‘Psaki noted that one of the “safeguards” included maintaining the confidentiality of the buyers “because if the White House was not aware of those buyers, it would seem impossible for the administration to grant the buyers any favors based on the purchases,” Pittard notes….’

Bidens? Ethics? Something doesn’t compute here at all….

In any event, Psaki…oh, how one misses her and her trademark smarmy manner—so much more professional than KJP, unequaled in the telling of falsehoods. A national treasure!… (and of course she’s at her very best when talking about ethical concerns…)

  38. Didn’t watch anything but a few clips this morning – OMG! They didn’t dope him up enough to be able to talk coherently; the few clips I saw he was just babbling.

The few times a clip showed him talking well he was blaming things on his predecessor.

How on earth can anyone vote for him again?!

  39. “…She didn’t mince words in declaring his presidency a failure….”

    She’s wrong, alas.
“Biden” ‘s presidency—well, hijacking, actually—has thus far been a rip-roaring success…and THAT’S the tremendous problem the country is facing.
    And must continue to face.
IOW, the nation must prepare itself for more such successes, and the bluster, lies, obfuscation and perversion that will accompany these successes.

  40. OMG! They didn’t dope him up enough to be able to talk coherently; …

    Or possibly he was over-doped.

  41. Not sure that’s possible in these circumstances…
(But wouldn’t it be amazing if MK-ULTRA was actually a thing?…)

  42. sdferr: “He’s a dope. Always has been.”

True dat. His schtick is more hilarious as he becomes more like a crazy uncle. What’s horrifying is that the MSM and a few Democrats take him seriously. Crazy times.

I guess I missed his brief message about China and the balloon. He never actually said balloon, I don’t think. (I may have been on a bathroom break.) It seemed strange to me that he didn’t make a big deal about how he ordered the shootdown. He likes to sound macho. I guess the speechwriters didn’t want to call attention to it. It’s embarrassing enough as it is.

  43. He was a soviet tool during the cold war, his goal is ‘bury us’ like kruschev warned 63 years ago

  44. I did read it first thing.
Thought funny he dud bring up Jan6 and squarely put Paul Pelosi right in there again and not some tryst with nothing to do with Jan6 but he loves to lie then use it often.
Also his kids got in there’s well as old Democrats do Tax the rich and Republicans will throw gramma off the cliff ending Medicade

  45. I’ve read commentary at a lot of places today.
The speech should be retitled “State of the Campaign” — by both parties.

  46. }}} Are you going to watch Biden’s State of the Union speech tonight?

No, I figured I’d have a lot more fun filling a bathtub with hydrochloric acid, tossing in a few piranhas and an alligator, along with a rabid ferret, and then strip naked and jump in with a hot air dryer…

    😀
