Yes, the mask mandate vote is promising in that some Senate Dems (but NOT the awful Mitt Romney) voted in favor. However, Biden has vowed to veto and Pelosi may not even allow a vote in the House.
Thus, dead in the water.
Everyone should email their CongressCritter, there are many individuals and groups calling for this so if you contribute your email to the effort, it won’t be a drop in a bucket.
We know that masks, vaccines, lockdowns are not going to solve Covid. In fact, the science (as opposed to CDC edicts) is pointing to relaxation of rules and regulations and a return to normal life.
But in China they are going in the direction of more severe lockdowns. My friend fwd’s this link but his remark about the comment section is what caught my eye. Are the new, exaggerated Chinese lockdowns due to stupidity or is there a plan?

“The comments in the above story are very interesting. There is almost 100% agreement that the closing of China has nothing to do with Covid, but rather it’s completely political instead and aimed at the US. Basically to give the US a taste of what its like to live a few weeks/months without the precious supply lines the global elites got us hooked on over the last 40 years. It can also be seen as an opening salvo to show the West that there is a new sheriff in town.”
By the way, this tells you that at least half the professional-managerial class kids who made it through Yale Law School’s admissions screens aren’t worth a pitcher of warm spit.
Thanks physicsguy and JimNorCal, I did read the article, and yes Pelosi will most likely not bring it up for a vote. Biden would veto it.
One of my Senators, Bennett was a co-sponsor. That surprised me, since he is a Dem. He is up for reelection this yr and some here in CO speculate that he could be knocked off. Never going to happen, we are too Blue. It is interesting that he did this because the day before I sent him and Hick, my other wasted space senator, an email about lifting the mandates.
I just do not understand why Biden and other Dems want to keep the mandate, other than a power trip.
SHIREHOME:
I suppose it is a power trip and also there must be some demand from it from their base, whom they can’t afford to alienate.
I disagree but I think it’s a good clear explanation.
And just when I thought I could give up data tracking, and the rest of us return to normal…. well, if the Ukraine war winds down then they have this new variant to lock us all down again:
physicsguy, apparently there is a large surge in China. The infection is now endemic worldwide, and like other coronaviruses, we’ll see case waves. It doesn’t seem to be any more dangerous than “original” Omicron, and I’m personally not going to get a shot which won’t stop it and risk the side effects which I fortunately avoided with the shots last year.
Kate, yes, even the CDC says this new variant is not any worse in terms of sickness than the original. I’m not personally worried about it, but I am worried about what the politicians are going to do with it.
I was relieved to read that Juicey Smolelay has been released from jail, pending his appeal. This is MAGA country!
For Shirehome, not sure if it will affect international flights, but some hope:
