  1. Intriguing article.

Ramaz sees his Christian life in Egypt under moderate Islam as a better life than a Christian in decadent American society. Wow, and yet, it’s quite true that a Christian has more in common with a Muslim than a progressive elitist.

But what kind of Muslim? The educated, liberal Muslim who was allowed, even encouraged, by Mubarek? Yep, that one, not the Salafist, who makes even an MB look moderate?

I wish liberals would read the following words written by Ramaz:

“Westerners think religious freedom in Egypt means Muslims can opt out of being Muslims. But it’s a completely false supposition. No Muslim doesn’t want to be a Muslim. It’s part of their being. So when Egyptians talk about freedom and revolution, it has nothing to do with Islam. No Egyptian wants to be free of Islam.”

That sums the uninformed view of your pro Arab Spring supporter.

  2. I do understand and agree with Ramaz view that benevolent dictatorship is preferable in such backward societies to everything that used to be called democracy here. Illiberal democracy is the worst kind of tyranny, much more intrusive, bloody and cruel than one man rule imposed by orderly government bureaucracy and military, if, of course, the ruler is not a megalomaniac or sadistic psychopath.
