[BUMPED UP – scroll down for today’s posts] It’s that time again: asking for donations
It’s been a while since I’ve asked for donations. In the meantime, quite a few readers have donated without any prodding, and I thank you all profusely. Some of you even have a setup whereby you make a monthly payment, which is also great.
If anyone wants to contribute to thenewneo, just click on the Paypal button either to the right or at the bottom of the page. If it’s not showing, disable your adblocker and that should make it visible.
I thank everyone in advance. Your contributions go a long way towards making this blog possible.
I’ll probably keep this post at the top of the blog for the next week.
I tried to give you $50 on my credit card without doing stuff with the paypal thingy, I have done that in the past, it would not let me just use a credit card and get it done. Sorry about that, three tries and that’s it.
Old Texan:
I appreciate the effort, anyway.
Don’t worry about it at all.
Con pleažurski.
Credit card worked for me. That was still via the PayPal portal … but somehow not using PayPal.
I’ve never understood the point of PayPal if one can just use a credit card directly. And does using PayPal “in full,” so to speak, mean that **two** commissions come out of the donation — one from the credit-card company and the other from PayPal?
I used Paypal.
neo, I would LOVE to support this site.
I do not use Paypal–they have deplatformed too many people who support the Constitution. Do you have a PO box we can do it the old fashioned way?
(if you send a real address to my email, I promise to NEVER EVER share it)
Hello Neo, so what is a reasonable contribution from a daily visitor – 25 bucks, 50 bucks? Glad to send a few shekels your way – your blog would instantly become the most intelligent line item in my leisure and entertainment spend. Reading your posts is always informative and the comments are also enjoyable. (Well, most of them.) I have you to thank for introducing me to incredible artistry of the late Maya Plisetskaya. Such luminous, ageless beauty! I much admire your wise, objective, and highly self-aware writing on a wide range of topics. Speaking as the son of two life-long teachers, you were no doubt the apple in the eye of every teacher you ever had.
Contributed via PayPal, using my credit card.
Not thrilled about supporting PayPal, but very happy to support Neo. If PayPal is the way, so be it.
Comments: I learn from all of them, including the ones from Los Moderados (and those who seem to be bucking for membership in that select company). Even the ones I find objectionable. Especially those, in fact. Keep ’em coming.
My 1st donation, used PayPal, & agree that I’d rather not support them, and this makes me feel like a hypocrite. But my retirement assets in mutual funds & stocks, invested by people whom I do not know, will be at least as “unsavory” as PayPal. In fact, the gasoline in my truck was pumped into its underground tanks from trucks driven by people who may have opinions that I find disgusting, & they may make donations to people whom I consider a threat. Life is not simple. Don’t make it worse.
Lee:
I’m not keen on Paypal either, but a little while ago I explored possible alternatives and nothing worked well for me. So I reluctantly stuck with Paypal.
I have an ironclad rule of not giving out my address. It’s not that I don’t trust you or any number of other people. It’s just that so far it seems best to follow that rule.
I very much appreciate the thought and the effort, though.
Scott:
Thanks!!
Any amount is fine, really. Anything, small or large or in-between.
I was able to use the not-logging-into-paypal option with the Brave browser.
I was able to put a $20 donation on my debit card.
Yeah … I’m a cheapskate. But I’m also retired living on a fixed income.
Hot Damn, I went into the Neo site with Chrome and it took my little bit of money, Thank you folks for talking about other ways to get in, Safari did not let me do it. Blessings to all and to all a Good Night !
@OldTexan:
Browser ad and tracker blockers (or security features which don’t block but fuzz and obfuscate ads and tracking) may interfere with PayPal links.
I’ve got FireFox armored up the wazoo with security plugins and sometimes have to turn some of them off to be able to pay for stuff on various websites.
That’s unlikely to be a problem with Stock Chrome — put out there by Google as a public service (ha) to facilitate ads and cross site tracking. They call them Web Browsers because they help the Web to Browse Us 🙂
Hello Neo, while I repeatedly hear “It’s all about the Benjamins” I tossed the digital equivalent of a Grant your way. I am pleased by this donation’s symbolism as our 18th President was a genuine American hero: a brave military leader loved by his troops and lionized by the public, an accomplished and spirited horseman, a lover of all fellow men, and modest to an extreme. An old-fashioned gentleman if ever there was one. His only vices* were frequently placing his trust in those undeserving and the cheap cigars which ultimately killed him. If you haven’t read Ron Chernow’s masterful biography of U.S.G., I highly recommend it.
As to the donation, I knew you would be far too modest to request a specific amount. I am guessing that like me, you were raised in a home where the discussion of money – how much he makes or how much she has – was viewed as impolite. Those were better times.
So many thanks for the wonderful and thoughtful writing!
*The conventional wisdom about Grant’s drinking is mostly wrong – a man who could not hold drink and knew it, Grant occasionally went on a bender but completely controlled his urge to drink for much of his life
I second the disdain for using the PayPal portal. Takes some of the joy out of supporting you. Well, I’ll bit the bullet this time.
I was able to contribute, using Safari. But I don’t have any ad blockers running.
Gladly! Done.
Done. Thank you for writing interesting, rational blog posts and for fostering an atmosphere of civil and enlightening commenting. I don’t often comment, but I always read – and I come away enriched.
NEO,
I have never donated to a site before. Your writing is always interesting even when I am not normally interested in the subject. Ballet for instance. Where ballet is concerned I am a Phillistine but I enjoy your treatment of the subject.
When I get to the end of one of your articles, I am always a little sad that it ended.
Be well this coming year.
Happy New Years from a daily reader who rarely comments.
