Khamenei says Trump made him do it
Rather predictably, Khamenei says it’s all Trump’s fault:
Iranian authorities have repeatedly blamed the US for the mass demonstrations they have called “riots” and “terrorist” operations. Trump had threatened to strike Iran if it did not stop killing protesters, but starting Wednesday sounded a more conciliatory tone, saying he was assured the killings would stop.
In a speech broadcast by state television to mark a religious holiday, Khamenei on Saturday said the protests had left “several thousand” people dead — the first indication from an Iranian leader of the extent of the casualties from the wave of protests that began December 28.
“In this revolt, the US president made remarks in person, encouraged seditious people to go ahead and said: ‘We do support you, we do support you militarily,’” said Khamenei.
“We do consider the US president a criminal, because of casualties and damages, because of accusations against the Iranian nation,” Khamenei said. He described the protesters as “foot soldiers” of the United States and said they had destroyed mosques and educational centers.
We still don’t know whether Trump will be doing more to help the Iranian people; perhaps he will. But if he doesn’t, then this will have been one of his worst moves – to encourage the uprising, promise help, and then fail to give it. Don’t promise if you can’t deliver.
But no, Trump’s not responsible for their deaths. The mullahs are fully and utterly responsible.
I’m pretty much with Roger L. Simon on this:
What comes to mind immediately are those clichés, “déja vu all over again” and “rinse and repeat.” Negotiating with the mullahs has always been a fool’s game. Whether for reasons of extremist theology or old-fashioned stonewalling or—most likely—because they play the long game, much longer than we could ever do, they can negotiate into oblivion, and nothing ever happens. The Islamic Republic remains the monster that it is.
Meanwhile, we are being inundated with contradictory news about what President Trump is planning. …
What may be at the root of all this presidential indecision, if that’s what this is, is the old saw “When you strike at a king, you must kill him,” popularized by Ralph Waldo Emerson and more recently on cable’s The Wire. Trump knows there is no room for bungling when it comes to finishing off the mullahs. They must be destroyed once and for all, or the mission could well backfire with negative ramifications not only for him, but for what’s left of the Western world.

I’m still guardedly optimistic our military has another trick up its sleeve and will help the Iranian people. Trump is mercurial and says many things that do not come to pass, but it would be very out of character for him to encourage people in a life or death situation and not offer aid.
God help the Iranian people!

I miss the comedians of the old days, before every comic’s routine became an exercise in politics and profanity.
Maybe the Devil made them do it….
Nate Bargatze is an old school comedian. He’s clean, wholesome and very popular.
Leanne Morgan’s routines are second to none. They also maintain a certain decorum by avoiding profanity.
Is it mere coincidence that the tyrannical, America-hating islamicists who run Iran say the same thing that the tyrannical-wannabe, America-hating leftists right here in the USA say the same thing? “Trump made me/us do it; it’s all his fault and we’re totally innocent and pure as the driven snow!” I suspect there just might be a smidge of similitude between them. But I’m a suspicious man, so maybe that’s just me.
they are opposite wings of the totalitarian, one secular one sectarian, sometimes they cooperate against the Greater foe, see Erdogan working with the Maduro/Cabello regime, sometimes authoritarian forces like Putin work with sectarians like the mullah/ Sepah arrangement in Iran, the whole Dugin praxis,

Neo writes: “But if he (Trump) doesn’t [do more in Iran], then this will have been one of his worst moves – to encourage the uprising, promise help, and then fail to give it. Don’t promise if you can’t deliver.”
I think Trump (and many other presidents) learned early on that they can accomplish a lot by encouraging people to do something. If they don’t, he can put it on their shoulders. If they do, and it’s successful, he can take credit for it.
Will this work in Iran, so we don’t have to send in troops or bombers? I can hope it does, but I’m not optimistic.
In any case, I completely agree with Neo’s point: this could be one of his worst moves if he promises help but doesn’t follow through.
President Trump is soooo powerful that he can make a loving, compassionate man of God send forth his security forces to kill thousands of his people. Very impressive, to say the least.
We all want to believe that, in the final analysis, Trump is not so focused on his own image of himself, and what he can realistically accomplish, that he does recognize the true nature of the psychopathic power mad dictators like those in Russia or Iran, etc. Those “leaders” may act like they can be persuaded by “business deals” or other tradeoffs, … but … perhaps Trump does know that for such people the only pertinent lead in to negotiations is “If you want to live …. ”
Of course then he has to have the confidence he can back that up if that ends up being his opening gambit.

I had never thought about HOW unequal life under Islam is. Why many of the protesters are young women.
For example, here’s rape laws under the Islamic law in Iran:
A woman has virtually no defense against rape. If she hurts or kills the man in defense, she could be charged with murder,
This is what I wrote a few days ago:
“The government is armed. The protesters are not. The government has no limit to how many they will kill. What are our options? Arm the protesters? Bomb Iran? I don’t think we know what to do.”
The death toll is, according to some sources, over 14,000. It seems that the revolution was stillborn. Maybe I’m wrong. It just reinforces my opinion that, other than cold war enemies, we really don’t know what to do. I think the only way to change Iran is invasion. That’s not happening.

You are so far ahead of the game concerning knowledge of Islam you don’t know it. Light years compared to the Average American. I believe the proper word to describe women in Islam is chattels.
Another win for Trump. I do think that not going into Iran will cost Trump more than he realizes.
