He also has a recent video about spider cognition (no, not the “spidey sense”).
A side note away from the MN craziness. I like Megyn Kelly, but lately I’m worried that she may be heading down the Owens/Tucker road. This morning she went down the UFO rabbit hole after seeing the new “documentary” out, that really presents nothing new, but in a more dramatic fashion. She then interviewed one of the chief protagonists. I posted my arguments on her video page.
Apologies to Snow on Pine, I have already discussed my thoughts on the topic, and I know his view. Again, with Sagan, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”. Now if Klaatu would land near the Washington monument, I might think differently.
If you want to be impressed by jumping spiders go look up portia spider. They are rather clever when hunting.
om, I agree jumping spiders are fascinating, but I think the video maker here is anthropomorphizing way too much. 🙂
I also think it’s likely she knows it and is trying to gin up youtube views for revenue.
physicsguy I scrolled through most(?) of the comments, looking for yours, but didn’t see anything labelled “physicsguy.” I’d be curious to read your opposition.
I’ve heard Megyn Kelly express a lot of gratitude to Tucker Carlson for helping her out with her career at FoxNews and she calls him a friend. It’s likely they communicate a lot offline. As you write, Carlson could very well be the cause of her focusing on this.
It may also be revenue driven. Megyn Kelly is a savvy media professional. Her “MK Media” ventures have an emphasis on true crime and celebrity gossip. Pretty sure Kelly did research on podcast topics with the biggest bang for the buck and decided to launch her media empire focusing on those. Maybe UFO/Cryptozoology is her next play?
RTF,
Youtube comments are posted in my own name. Basically, I said what I said above and also added the notion that if an intelligent species can develop a technology that can traverse 100s/1000s of lightyears, how do they arrive here and crash on landing??? Some teenage aliens out on a galactic joyride gone wrong? 🙂 Also, they seem to be very incompetent in keeping themselves from detection. Smart/dumb aliens?? Also, the videos presented look like grainy 1960s film that could easily be produced by AI.
I assume most here already know who I am, but now they can truly find out.
physicsguy,
Thanks! I agree with your opinion. The crash landing one is hard to refute. I suppose believers would claim they use wormholes or manipulate space in some way that the journey isn’t 1,000s of lightyears? Even so, a society that advanced using their technology to abduct cows and probe hapless fishermen seems illogical and impractical.
Jumping spiders!
Leaping lizards!
Here’s a fascinating take on a—mostly forgotten, I suspect—blast from the past…
…Banfield succumbs to pessimism in just one respect, which is both amusing and instructive. Near the end of the book, he notes that “if we look toward the future, it is impossible not to be apprehensive…. The frightening fact is that large numbers of persons are being rapidly assimilated to the upper classes and are coming to have incomes, time as well as money, that permit them to indulge their taste for ‘service’ and doing good in political action.” Although Banfield shared fears about the increasing number of children in broken, welfare-dependent homes, he was more worried about the overproduction of comfortable do-gooders….

I was struck listening to Bret Stephens talking about Europe about the possibility that colonial Europe thought the mass migration was going to produce the new servants that had over centuries provided the servant class from their colonies around the world.
These people were supposed to thankfully take their place in the social order. Surprise, surprise. These turned out to be dormant conquerors.
I decided to take a walk in the woods with the dogs one dark night, and donned one of those elastic-strapped headlights. When I hit the path, it was a fairly long straight stretch. And there ahead of me, were at least a thousand little tiny points of light along the ground, which I first took as dew drops, but then supposed to be reflections off the eyes of something. I was seeing them because the light source being reflected was just above my own eyes. Curious, I homed in on one, got down on my hands and knees and gently moved the leaves and grass away. Yep: Jumping spiders. I had never realized just how many of them are out there. Nature is amazing….

Jumping spiders are so cool!
Yep, we are supposed to believe that this spider understands what is being said to it/him/her/they/them….whatever.
Sure.
Travis McEnry has at least three videos about jumping spiders in “your house.” Way cool.

Aggie, just think how unpleasant life would be without them chomping away at the insect population.
Brian E..that is interesting. Did Bret S have any references to specifics of people expecting this?
