Happy Thanksgiving! — 13 Comments

  1. Yes, much to be thankful for, including Neo, her blog, and the commenters. Hope you all have a felicitous Thanksgiving!

  2. The Afghani scumbag who shot a female National Guard soldier in DC yesterday, then took her gun and shot her again in the head, used to work for the CIA. So did Senator Elisa Slotkin.

I hope Slotkin gets indigestion today, among other things!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving backatcha neo, and so also to the frequents, the casual, and to the rarer visitors here.

Monkeybread through its second rising, about to enter the oven — smoker smokin’ with its precious gobbler content browning away. Be juicy, bird!

  4. I wish Jennie O still made their turkey loaf. It tasted very nice, and was the perfect size for a bachelor like myself.

It disappeared along about the pandemic. It must have been banned, because it made people happy. The Democrats don’t like that.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving…America’s best holiday in my opinion. Thanks to Neo for this blog and the commenters.

  6. Lately I’ve been watching hours of dog rescue videos from:

Love Furry Friends – Rescue Channel
    https://www.youtube.com/@lovefurryfriends/featured

    https://theanimalrescuesite.com/blogs/news/ukrain-love-furry-friends-feed-stray-dogs.

A young Ukrainian woman, Olena Pyanov, has dedicated her life work to rescuing stray dogs. The Ukrainian dog shelters are filled. Strays are left to fend for themselves in terrible situations and often die. Obviously this situation has been made much worse by the Ukraine war.

The videos start with her getting a tip on a stray dog or dogs, often puppies. Vroom! She gets into the Dogmobile drives off to the rescue. She finds the dogs, occasionally in the basement of a bombed-out building. Then she has to coax them to her, which is sometimes easy, sometimes hard. Some of these dogs really don’t trust people. But love and perseverance eventually find a way.

She takes them to the vet for vaccinations and treatment. When the dog is healthy, home to her shelter, for a bath then a good meal and clean water.

Then the emotional repair begins. She lavishes love and attention on the dog. She introduces the dog to the other dogs in the shelter. The dog learns to relax, socialize, play, and be happy.

She does a photo shoot of the happy, groomed dog and with a little bit of luck and her YouTube channel, she will find a “forever home” for the dog. Happy ending!

I find it relaxing to watch these videos with the music off (too intrusive). It hits the sweet spot for me of “Yes, this is the way the world should work.”

Today she has a lovely Thanksgiving video for her American audience:

–“We Opened the Shelter Gates… And What Happened Next Will Leave You Speechless

    Happy Thanksgiving all!

  7. Happy thanksgiving to you too Neo. That picture leaves me with several issues
    1) That knife looks like a French chef’s knife meant for chopping vegetables not slicing meat. A slicer or boning knife would be far more effective (boning knife with its shorter blade being excellent for removing thigh/legs and wings)
    2) the scale of the turkey is wrong (although maybe the knife and hand are way in the foreground?). That turkey looks more like a small roasting chicken or even a whole fryer compared to the knife.
Makes me wonder if scene is AI generated, those are the kind of things LLM’s just don’t know to get right 🙂 .
