Psaki and friends on Usha Vance – the left’s Handmaid’s Tale fantasies — 25 Comments

  1. So Jen Psaki is even worse than I thought. I confess I’m sometimes amused by feminists who get really bitchy toward women on the other political side.

The Handmaid’s Tale is a feminist fever dream. And the way they have been using it for several years now is even more feverish. I assume the same can be said of the tv series. The book was written in the ’80s and seems to have been the product of panic about the Christian Right. Leftists, especially feminists, do enjoy a panic, and a theatrical reaction to it. I was talked into reading it back when it came out by a feminist co-worker. It’s actually an effective story–Margaret Atwood is a popular novelist for some good reasons. But it sort of made me wonder about my co-worker. Its connection to any plausible America, past or present, is more or less delusional.

  2. It certainly seems that many lumpenprole Democrats seem to be succumbing to the pernicious human tendency of believing what they want to believe about their chosen opposition rather than applying some basic reasoning. They impute the worst possible traits upon people like Trump and Vance no matter how absurd and ridiculous it may seem to others, choosing base emotionality over calm rational thought. To be fair, it’s not like we on the Right are always perfectly rational either when it comes to divining the motivations of powerful Democrat figures. But these days a large swath of regular Democrat voters are choosing irrational, absurd, and outright insane interpretations of people and events far more often than usual.

Psaki was likely being facetious with the whole “Please blink four times. Come over here, we’ll save you”, but given all the insanity flying around the various echo chambers of the Left these days it’s often hard to be sure. In their minds, Vance can only be a wicked villian and therefore anything he says or does must be viewed through that lens. So any woman married to him must either be deeply ignorant of his true nature or be a slave without any agency. Either interpretation is valid in their minds. Or perhaps there’s an outside chance that Ursha too is a wicked villian, but that’s less likely because women in general must only be viewed as morally higher beings and/or victims (and doubly so since she’s also not white) in their warped, puerile version of reality. It’s all just sad.

  3. Raggedy Anne has turned out to be a uniquely abhorrent piece of work.

Incapable of circling back to normal humanity.

  4. “Psaki was likely being facetious”

She (and most of the Dem party nowadays) doesn’t think in those terms, but only of the compulsive necessity to libel and demonize their political opponents, especially if they come from any identity group – IOW any woman, particularly if they are “of color” like Usha. Think of what they did to Sarah Palin.

If Winsome Sears is elected governor of VA they will murder her. When I first thought of it I was thinking figuratively but given recent events it may be literally.

  5. @neo: The idea is that these wives are being held hostage and live in fear, which is both repulsive and condescending. It’s as though they were taken by human traffickers – their husbands – and need to send a covert signal for rescue.

Yet these same feminists haven’t word one to say about Muslim husbands and their (multiple) wives, the forced marriages and honor killings.

That’s different. That’s their culture. Wouldn’t want to be Islamophobic…

  6. I saw the Psaki comment yesterday and read a few things about it. A Manchurian candidate??? How on earth?

He’s not some subversive foreigner himself, nor is he fronting for any such person that I know about. Is he a phony, air headed front man, in general? (Recall Senator Iselin in the original movie.) I don’t think he is an air head, but the other two traits, phony and front man, might be triggering people like Psaki.

I haven’t followed Vance that closely, but from my reading yesterday, Vance was once something of a right-wing darling of the left, if that’s possible. His complaints about America leaving the common man and woman and the lower classes behind struck a chord with them, and apparently Vance was something of a never-Trumper for a time. The latter was a huge draw.

But Vance then threw in with Trump? Say it ain’t so! So the phony front man vibe, is the one I believe they are feeling or exploiting. And I supposed they are both pissed off, and perhaps fearful that such a young good looking guy could be an heir apparent.

The idea that they would call him little is what? Silly? Pathetic? Or is it actually effective in some sense in our crazy media world? Recall that AOC recently suggested that little Stephen Miller is only 4′ 10″ tall. Trouble is, he is actually 5′ 10″ tall. So this isn’t isolated. I just looked Vance up on IMDB. They claim he is 6′ 2″ tall.

    The Handmaids Tale:
I was having a conversation with a lady friend recently who is one of the more level headed ones that I know, and I merely commented on how low the US birthrate is relative to the replacement rate. I didn’t say a word about remedies, or even whether it will cause problems (which it will). She instantly responds with a little litany about The Handmaids Tale with an emphasis on theocratic dictatorships.

I didn’t say much, but I was thinking, “Show me the examples of theocratic dictatorships currently, or over the last century.” Yes, they are all Islamic. Is that what you are worried about?

    TommyJay:

Yeah well, if Robert Duvall were in charge (as in “The Handmaid’s Tale” film) we would be living in the Republic of Gilead tout de suite. 😉

  8. Psaki is so insulting and condescending. Usha Vance is a very intelligent woman who has had a successful legal career. She loves J.D. and they are a team. What a concept!

  9. Megyn Kelly had a guest recently, a woman as I recall, who argued that Psaki maneuvered Karine Jean-Pierre to be Biden’s next Press Secretary so Psaki would be remembered more positively.

    Could be!

  10. Only women of the Left have agency. All those on the Right are hostages or slaves or somesuch.

  11. In advanced cases — I have literally seen women solemnly discussing how any woman who doesn’t agree with their brand of viciously anti-male feminism is not to blame, because she’s really a hollowed-out puppet being controlled by men. (And so traumatized that she deluded herself if she thinks she has experiences that contradict their feminism.)

  12. Aw, give ‘er a break.

With the Democrats it’s almost always “reductio ad absurdum”.

They’re in competition with one another, and the competition is stiff (though to be fair to Fetterman he just wants out, at least most of the time).

Good ole’ Jen merely strives to be “more absurdum than thou” (or should that be “more reductio”?) especially for a competitive, combative spirit like hers…and this takes Psaki places that most sane people have no wish to go.

Ditto much of her party. (I mean—holy dominion!—look at the current state of Virginia…not to mention Maine at the moment).

“There’s a Democrat running for Maine senator who literally had a Nazi tattoo – yet Colbert isn’t touching that story for whatever reason”—

  13. Jen Psaki is by some accounts the daughter of a real estate developer and a member of the mental health trade. Her high school diploma was issued by a school in Greenwich, Ct. She has no post-secondary occupational schooling. All her education was liberal education.
    ==
Her entire work life since age 23 has been devoted to public relations for politicians, usually in their direct employ, sometimes as an employee of MSNBC. Her husband has been the chief of staff to a string of Democratic pols. She’s the sort of person for whom there is no truth, merely whatever story is convenient to you at this time.

Ancestry.com spits out an address for her at 2146 North Pollard Street in Arlington, Va. Zillow reports that is a 4,500 sq foot home built in 2018 and that it was bought by the current owner the following year. They estimate the market will now bear a price of $2.138 million on that house and report the current owners are carrying a loan balance of $1.14 million. Hmmm.

  14. I always said that if you want to see real racism listen to a progressive white woman who is very wealthy talk about any minority person who leans Republican/Conservative.

  15. the slithy tove jennifer welch was part of that confab,

as pointed out, Attwood cribbed liberally from Heinlein, the libertarian, in ‘If this goes on’ yes Jenn’s figurehead boss was literally a Manchurian candidate, as well as Romanian and Kazakh due to his son’s influence schemes, she was [part of the extortion scheme against Kavanaugh, Demand Justice, that forced Breyer out and put in Miss (I can’t identify a woman

  16. Tim Kaine was the Manchurian Candidate, he loved China, many trips there and brought students with him probably all paid for by the Chinese Communists.
Mt guess is their Handmaids is what they fear with Leftism or Islam

I am reminded of NPR exec Katherine Maher, who was from Wilton, not far from Greenwich. Both towns are part of the CT Gold Coast (NYC suburbia), which puts a very boldface A into the AWFL acronym.

    Beware those Gold Coast Girls…
