Looks like a bunch of asters in the background. Before I kept bees I never thought a lot about flowers. Now I notice my bees on different flowers at different times, and right now it is time for the asters. I guess I should try to isolate some of the honey they’re making from these little flowers. It might turn out to be very nice, and I am guessing these will be the last blossoms of the season. Now they have the long dearth until the dandelions and maple blossoms start the honey season in April or May. The trick for beekeepers is knowing how much of this year’s honey to leave for the hive to feed on until the dandelions bloom. The portion that is excess can be harvested and turn up on your table. Enjoy!
Neo, do you think that the release of the Israeli hostages will materially increase Jewish Americans’ support for Trump and/or Republicans?
What an amazing day this has been: I awoke unbidden at 3:15, wondering “What the hell am I doing awake at this hour?” before realizing that I’d awoken in order to see 20 men released from their captivity and reunited with their loved ones — halfway across the world! — to be followed by one astounding scene after another (some good, some awful) and one amazing speech after another (also some good, some ridiculous) all before the sun had come up.
F – have you considered witch hazel bush for late fall and winter blooms?
Selfy —
Based on my limited exposure, I think a few, but for the most part, some of them are so dyed-in-the-wool left, that will never consider it.
I have three Jewish facebook friends in NYC: one is reasonable but limits her reading to NY Times, and two suffer from both Trump and Bibi Derangement Syndrome. The reasonable one seems to admit that Trump’s hand in the matter was helpful, but that is as far as she will go. (FWIW, she was concerned about Mamdami winning the primary.) The other two seem to think that had neither Trump nor Bibi been in office, things would have worked out BETTER in the end. I do NOT understand their reasoning. (I think these two WILL vote for Mamdami because of their politics, and from what they post on Facebooks. FWIW, all three claim to be Orthodox.)
I have one Jewish American friend who now lives in Israel, and no longer votes in American elections. (He made aliyah some time ago.) His Bibi Derangement Syndrome is over the top. EVERYTHING from the past two years is all because of Bibi, would not have happened if it weren’t for Bibi. He believes Bargouti is a moderate. He totally supports the release of many of the Arab prisoners and claims that they are political prisoners. I do not understand why he doesn’t move back to France — he and his wife lived there for several years.
Just went to the store to pick up a few things and bought a large bag of candy for Halloween and some already cooked chicken breasts, and on the way home I wondered out loud about when we turned from a high trust society to an increasingly low trust society citing, as an example of the decay, when I was a kid and trick or treaters started to find the occasional razor blade in the apples which homeowners had given them.
Of course, back then parents also usually let their children roam free at night–out trick or treating around the neighborhood, something that I doubt many or even most parents would allow their kids to do in today’s society.
Got home and noticed that the package of chicken breasts had “tamper indicator” packaging, which triggered memories of some decades ago, when there was a rash of people who were found tampering with food or medications in stores, which resulted in some food and almost all medications starting to have some sort of cap or packaging, whose rupture or absence indicated possible tampering. (Copycat crimes in which some nutjob saw reports about what some other nutjob had done, and copied it?)
Now, of course, we have the Tiktok idiots, filming themselves doing things like licking containers of ice cream and putting them back on the shelves, or even, in one case I saw reported, spending a year– until finally caught–pissing on the produce in a whole series of local New England supermarkets.
So where did this increasing number of behaviors driving the devolution into a low trust society come from?
Bad parenting, lack of religious/moral teaching and expectations, rampant–and untreated–mental health problems, drug (CCP involvement here) and alcohol use, the malign influence of things like TikTok (this, some say, a deliberate attempt by the CCP to encourage this weakening devolution?), the Devil, just normal Entropy at work, all of the above?
The hostages were released on the last day of the fall Levitical Festivals. ” Feast of Trumpets” or ” Sukkot.”
This is the Festival that is mentioned in Zechariah chapter 14 that the survivors of the nations that attacked Israel will be required to attend during what is almost certainly the future Messianic Age.
It’s good for the living hostages to be back, but that’s only the start, which I’m sure nearly everyone commenting here recognizes. Churchill observed of the euphoria after Dunkirk:
…we must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations.
The threat to Israel is not ended because hostages were taken and some of them were eventually returned alive. There is a lot yet that must be followed through, and the war may need to resume. Peace is not made yet.
I got a very happy email from my Orthodox Israeli-American cousin. He knows this isn’t a perfect deal, but he celebrates a new beginning, while being realistic about the fact that Hamas will not give up violence. He’s a strong supporter of both Trump and Netanyahu.
Ah, yes, asters!
One of the annoying things about modern knowledge is that you have both readers who know when flowers bloom, and readers who don’t so you can’t use the changing flowers as a sign of the passage of time without incluing the second group (adeptly enough, one hopes, to avoid boring the first).
The career diplomats at the State Dept must be besides themselves – weeping, bawling, having fits of rage, considering suicide – because some Queens , NY real estate guy – a crude, loud mouthed braggadocio – much to their chagrin, captained a peace deal in the mideast.
And imagine how the academically gifted, but otherwise totally incompetent Jake Sullivan or Antony Blinken must be feeling. They each must each be on their 5th bottle of whiskey.
Selfy:
Support forTrump among observant Jews in the US – especially among Orthodox Jews – is already sky-high. In fact, they may be the demographic with a higher percentage of Trump-supporters than any othe religious group in the US; something like 85% support Trump.
Secular leftist Jews are exactly like leftists everywhere. Only a few will give him credit.
And Jews who are in between will be in between.
@ JohnTyler > “The career diplomats at the State Dept must be besides themselves” – and so forth.
This is why Trump cannot file away the peace deal as finished.
Our own State department will try to torpedo things somehow, behind Rubio’s back so I hope he is being vigilant.
There are too many of the Obama-Clinton era apparatchiks still embedded in the agencies where they can do significant damage, because they agree with the goal of Hamas, Iran, and many other countries – sadly including much of Europe: any war that destroys Israel is a good war.
Even the other signatories to the deal are not giving up their own preference for a Judenrein Middle East; as a practical matter, the (almost certainly short) peace will allow them to get rid of a festering cancer that is doing them more harm than good, and Israel will take the rap.
When Israel is finally destroyed (with the help of its own citizens), they can continue with the elimination of the rest of the Jews, including the useful idiots in the West who are supporting them at the moment.
@ Snow > “So where did this increasing number of behaviors driving the devolution into a low trust society come from?

All of the above, and they are a mutually reinforcing feed-back loop.
I also believe that the Malicious Entity sometimes called the Devil (he has a lot of names) is the one pulling strings and feeding one problem into another, as he has for many many centuries (or eons if you want to go that far).
An attempted fix, if I may presume: “They each must each be on their 5th bottle of whiskeydelusion.”
For those without X, sdferr’s link is to Antony Blinken claiming that they’re only implementing the peace plan developed by the Biden administration. Delusional, indeed.

This reminds me of Whittaker Chambers quoting Baudelaire: ‘The Devil’s cleverest wile is to make men believe that he does not exist.’
The robo-ump ABS can’t arrive too soon. (Gilbert struck Springer out twice, yet Springer still walks. Shameful, MLB.)
Re: sdferr and Kate;
Antony Blinken is a moron; he is a white male version of Kamala.
Clueless, stupid, dumb but able to string together coherent sentences that illustrate his stupidity.
Speaking of clueless idiots; I can’t wait to hear what horse-face (John Kerry) will say.
Mr. Ed, the talking horse of the TV show, had far more intelligent things to say than Kerry could ever utter.
Let’s see; was he – that is, Kerry; not Mr. Ed, – awarded one or two Purple Hearts in Vietnam because he shot himself with his own weapon??
I see some ‘liberals’ at FB circulating an old photo of Obama getting his Nobel Prize…the message apparently being, ‘Take That, Trump!’
