Terrorists attack a Jerusalem bus and pedestrians and murder six — 10 Comments

  1. a brigade for the ultra-Orthodox

In June 2024 the Supreme Court of Israel ruled that Haredi are no longer exempt from conscription. I don’t think it was ever noted here.

The High Court’s decision means that after decades of political and societal controversy and strife over the issue, there is now a legal obligation for young Haredi men to join their Jewish Israeli comrades and serve in the military.

This new reality has come about largely due to the confluence of two major events — the expiration of the original law allowing for blanket service exemptions, and the cataclysmic October 7 Hamas attack and its aftermath, which threw into sharp relief the IDF’s need for more manpower.

  2. Judea (Yehuda) and Samaria (Shomron) comprise The Jordanian occupied part of Israel until 1967 that the Jordanians termed “The West Bank.”

These Jewish Kingdoms/Areas are mentioned over 600 times in The Tanach – Jewish or Old Testament – Christian. Substitute Judah for Judea.

These two areas ARE ancient Israel. Gaza/Hamas/The PA just found out what happens when you attack Israel. That is 1/2 of Yesha. The other half is Ayosh – The West Bank.

If these attacks continue and they will without any doubt, the Israelis will finally hit a boiling point and crush/eradicate the Muslim Arabs living there one way or another.

The world will be a better place when that happens.

That will also end the (2) state solution in Eretz Israel.

Perhaps the “Palestinians” will occupy France, Belgium or some other pathetic European country who begs to have them. Who knows. The Arab Muslim countries and Turkey detest the Palestinians and want nothing to do with them except use them as useful idiots against The Jews of Israel.

None have offered to take them in, and that tells you everything you need to know.

  3. The Islamic death cult continues. Islam is a terrorist and imperialist political organisation. It is closer to National Socialism than many rival thug groups. Wake up before you are hanging from a crane

  4. The issue of ‘ultra’ orthodox military service is a classic example of lefties creating a problem, then perpetuating it – all for political gain.

Although ultra-orthodox Jews participated in the underground fighting before the founding of Israel, Ben Gurion excused the orthodox from service because he wanted to consolidate power – and because he was confident that the future belonged to the secular socialists. As a religious Knesset member used to say, Ben-Gurion was willing to fund old-age homes for us, but not schools.

And the army was very much used as a socialist melting pot that erased the traditions of many groups such as the North African Sephardic communities.

The Religious Zionists had to fight their way into the army, and endure heavy-handed attempts at indoctrination. Witnessing this left the ultra-orthodox – who never believed in the modern Zionist movement – even less inclined to send their sons into the army.

But it turns out the future did not belong to the secularists, but to the center-right mainstream defined by Likud, Shas (traditional North African Jews), and the ‘knitted kippah’ religious Zionists.

And lots of Haredim (ultra orthodox). Remember those big families?

So the left regularly drags out the ‘why aren’t these leeches serving in the Army’ as a political ploy against the growing power of the religious and traditional.

There have been repeated attempts to solve this problem – largely by adopting the 5-year ROTC-type seminary program by which many religious zionists serve with distinction.

This inevitably is sabotaged by Lefties in the middle echelons of the army. Which reinforces the skepticism and apathy of the Rabbis.

Due to the strong public sentiment after the October 7 massacre, for once there is public pressure within the Haredi world in favor of public service… ultra orthodox young men have been signing up in droves for EMT and ambulance duty, fire brigades, and police and civilian patrols.

This also caught the attention of politicians and religious Army officers – who (so far) have remained focused on shepherding the Haredi brigade through to success this time… and perhaps the broader public is no longer willing to see the secular Left wave this particular red flag.

  5. “Police said that a soldier and a number of civilians who were present at the scene fired at the terrorists and killed them.”

    Cool.

  6. That the attackers were from the West Bank (rather than from Gaza) caught my attention. I am trying to understand better who the players are in this conflict and what motivates them. It would appear there are some (perhaps many) in the West Bank who do not live under Hamas rule. And yet have similar if not identical goals and motivations.

Kill the Jews. Destroy Israel. By any means necessary.

  7. Looks like Israel has given up on diplomacy for now.

The second item is particularly crucial. For the first time Israel has attacked on Qatar soil. Qatar’s leaders are not pleased.

Two of the Hamas leaders killed are, from what I heard last night, negotiators invovled in the ceasefire negotiations.

So, that’s it for negotiations until Israel finishes this chapter.

  8. Interesting, Ben David. I have wondered why the ultra-orthodox were exempt. My cousin, an orthodox convert, has a son who’s been serving in the reserves and has been called up on multiple occasions.

  9. I doubt the Hamas guys were negotiators. They don’t negotiate–they lie and hold hostages as blackmail–f ’em.

  10. bill – “f ’em” [Hamas]

It is outrageous that the entire “civilized” world is not saying this. Maybe it is not as civilized as we think.
