  1. Two things this Monday morning:

Kurt Schlichter has a usual barn burner column, relevant quote:

“Right now, half of America considers the rights and participation in our government and society of the other half of America to be absolutely illegitimate. That is unsustainable. They need to get it through their heads. We are not going to be ruled by them. We are not going to be second-class citizens. We are not going to be serfs.”

And second, twice this morning there are article/video that something is afoot in China, Whatfinger links to a long video interview with Gordan Chang who suggests that Xi is in trouble. Then right after that, is an article on American Thinker suggesting the same thing.

  2. Interesting, but some are just vanity. Under the stairs areas have been used for a very long time. Ask Harry about that. Hiding wiring and plumbing is OK, but but better leave instructions for all the hidey-holes with your atty.

  3. James Comey is a very weird man. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I find that an older adult man posting very emotional videos about Taylor Swift a bit unsettling. I’m not saying an older fellow can’t like Taylor Swift as a sort of silly guilty pleasure or whatever. But to publicaly talk about it in an emotional way is just… weird.

  4. When I saw the title of the video, my first thought was about places to hide weapons. Not disappointed.

A 64 year old father of six? Yes, very weird. And another example of how our ruling class is made up of pod people.
    ==
Steve Sailer counted among his commenters a 68 year old bachelor employed by the Department of Defense whose fancy was Billie Eilish, for which he was razzed. I had never heard of her but the distaff side in my house insisted on having the Olympics on the tube and she appeared in a satellite closing ceremony broadcast from Los Angeles. There is something worth appreciating there, but I’ll leave that to the young people. We’d been hearing about Taylor Swift for about 15 years so turned on a video of hers to see what the fuss was about; as Miss Brodie said, for those who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing that they like. We shut the video off after about two minutes.

We attended a concert at Wolf Trap a few years ago given by the surviving half of Steely Dan, his back up crew, and openers. It piqued my interest the number of young people there. Then I realized they were there supervising their grandparents. If we ever go to a concert in such a venue again, we’re going to need such supervision ourselves. I still cannot figure out how we managed to find our car.

  6. I’m in the wrong business.

Here’s a sovcit, who calls herself a “private citizen” who, when asked to produce a Driver’s License or other I.D., shows cops her “Certificate of Existence” on her phone.

I wonder how much she paid for that little number?

I bet I could whip up such a “Certificate of Existence”–heavy card stock, impressive color suite, and a fancy, engraved look type face–for, say, $149 or even $200 a pop.*

  7. Makes for a good escape room, also kind of an obvious one.
These people who believe such ridiculous things deserve what they get
Those who purvey such product should be charged with fraud though

  8. I never cared for Roger Waters, so forget him, but this hurts:

Perhaps concert participants can further show their solidarity by being murdered, raped or kidnapped by Hamas.

Sigh. I love Eno’s ambient albums and he always sounded intelligent in interviews.

  9. Perhaps concert participants can further show their solidarity by being murdered…

Sick and twisted, but I laughed out loud. Very good use of sarcasm.

  10. When I watched all those interesting gizmos, I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if the electricity went off…! Ok…not on some of the hand storage things, but the “secret” rooms…

  11. Re: Hidden room

Then there’s the guy in Turkey who in 1963 was renovating his house, found a mysterious room, knocked down a wall and discovered an abandoned underground city which went back to 700-800 BC…
    ___________________________________

Derinkuyu … is an ancient multi-level underground city near the modern town of Derinkuy …, extending to a depth of approximately 85 metres (280 ft). It is large enough to have sheltered as many as 20,000 people together with their livestock and food stores.

    Life is full of surprises!

  12. I work at a fire department so all I could think of was being trapped in one of those secret rooms during a fire. Thanks, but no.

  13. Okay, this was really funny.
    https://notthebee.com/article/grok-suspended-from-x

    Grok is X’s AI.
It offered several, conflicting, speculations about the suspension, none of which have been confirmed, apparently.
So, it’s just like the rest of X’s suspended accounts.
How can you correct your behavior if you don’t know what you got wrong?
(NOTE – that’s a point mentioned in parenting advice: tell the kids what is expected (the rules) and what they got wrong, don’t just punish them randomly (in their eyes).

At least the AI teams at X can try to figure out what needs correcting, although they probably won’t tell us.

  14. The Starmer government of the UK has gone absolutely insane, and is drunk with nanny state power–

They are afraid to arrest and prosecute any Muslims for any actual and serious criminal offenses, but under a new “Youth Health Protective Act,” people under eighteen are banned from buying “nutritionally deficient food” i.e. fast food, between the hours of 5 P.M and 6 A.M. without adult supervision.

See the clip below, as, because she bought a hamburger at McDonalds at 5:15 P.M., a 16 year old white girl is handcuffed (ain’t, I bet, gonna try this with a Muslim), dragged away, stuffed into a police car, finger printed, and reportedly kept in jail for 3 hours.

So, now she has a criminal record.

Moreover, starting next month–as another part of the law comes into force–repeat offenders would be facing “mandatory nutritional rehabilitation courses,” and their parents could be fined up to 500 pounds.*

There is increasing talk of Civil War/insurgency coming to the UK, and this kind of stupid and blatant overreach by the government only ratchets up the discontent and tension even higher, and moves things closer to the pot boiling over.

    * See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pezd9DdVb3Q

  15. SnowOnPine:
“There is increasing talk of Civil War/insurgency coming to the UK,”

Unfortunately, for them, that possibility ended when they allowed themselves to be disarmed. Kurt Schlichter’s new book “American Apocalypse” about a second American civil war describes how the war starts when a future leftist government tries to confiscate Americans’ weapons.
BTW I also recommend Schlichter’s new column today. See the link at physicsguy’s post which is the first one on this thread.

  16. “…absolutely insane…”

Well, yes, unfortunately…but paradoxically (or perhaps not), that might be the ONLY way to recovery….

    …perhaps.

  17. And then there’s this clearheaded and courageous piece, given the lion’s den that is current-day Britain, by one of the UK’s premier comedic writer/directors….

    “A ceasefire accompanied by the release of all hostages is a mirage;
“Israel is in a trap where either it gives up militarily in order to free the hostages or fights on to destroy Hamas and loses them. Total victory is not one of the choices….”

  18. James Comey is a very weird man. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I find that an older adult man posting very emotional videos about Taylor Swift a bit unsettling.

    — nonapod

As a fifty-something who likes the Andrews Sisters, the Fontaine Sisters, The Platters, the BeeGees, Debbie Gibson (who is my generation), some of Taylor’s stuff, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Dame Vera Lynn, Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys, and a number of others across several generations, I maintain we should like what we like.

On the other hand, getting too caught up in emotional fandoms at any age isn’t a great idea.

(My tastes run a gamut, but I tend to intensely dislike most rap, and most of the favored Baby Boomer groups like the Beatles or (with a few exceptions) the Rolling Stones.)

  19. Nonapod,
The comments on Collin Rugg’s X repost of Comey’s Swiftie post are hilarious.
Well worth the time to scroll through.
Happily, the highest percentage of comments expressed concern that someone so unbalanced could ever become head of the ‘World’s premier law enforcement agency.’
Then the fun began with various theories to account for Comey’s mindset.
‘He’s laying the groundwork for an insanity defense.’
    ‘It’s an Illuminati humiliation ritual.’
‘He’s blinking ‘Help Me’ in morse code.
‘Just tell me he comes out at the end, I’m not listening to 5 minutes of this crap.’
And so on. It was late and I had to bite my thumb to keep from laughing out loud and waking up my husband, but undeniably time well spent!
