The federal charge? “Conspiracy to commit civil disorders“:
[US Attorney for the Central District of California] Essayli told Fox News that the riots “appear” to be “well orchestrated, coordinated and well-funded.”
“We have made it a huge priority to try to identify, locate and arrest those who are involved in organizing, supporting, funding or facilitating these riots that they’re going on,” he said.
Fancy face masks. Pallets of bricks. Pre-printed signs. Follow the money.
By the wy, Essayli has an interesting history. He’s a Republican and was appointed by Bondi just two months ago as interim attorney:
Essayli’s parents are immigrants from Lebanon who fled to the country to escape its civil war. He is a first-generation college graduate, earning his undergraduate degree from the Kellogg Honors College of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and a Juris Doctor from Chapman University School of Law. …
Among the cases he worked on [as Assistant US Attorney] was the 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino. …
Essayli is the first Muslim in history to be elected to the California State Assembly.
Good. Charge them with the crimes they’re committing.
Until the funders are apprehended, tried and imprisoned, its just going after the cannon fodder.
He’ll get a trial in an LA court with an LA attorney, and a Karen Bass approved judge and jury.

Jwm: Attorney General Bondi said that they are going to be charged under the Hobbs act which covers interstate commerce crimes. As a result, they will be tried in federal courts by federal attorneys, such as Essayli.
That’s good progress, but there’s also this:
Bricks For Hire
“A recent review of the California Democratic Party’s May 2025 expense report has uncovered a significant and controversial expenditure: the purchase of 200 pallets of construction-grade bricks.”
In response to the controversy, the California Democratic Party has stated that the brick purchase was intended for future infrastructure projects. “
Now that they’ve been delivered: Where exactly are they? A traceable transaction for an AG to investigate, and for witnesses to testify about – to a Grand Jury.

Judge Breyer playing it real cute, saying “That’s the difference between a constitutional government and King George. It’s not that a leader can simply say something and then it becomes it,” U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer said during the hearing earlier on Thursday….”
Stern, impartial language used a day or two before planned nationwide protests organized under the banner of ‘No Kings’, my, what a coincidence. I wonder if the judge has any, ahem, political affiliations of note.

I have to start by saying that I am 100% behind the deployment of the Guard and Marines as it has been carried out, and also 100% against Newsom and Bass’s anemic protestations that they’re for law and order, really! – but it does occur to me that funding or supplying signs for a protest (provided that it’s ONLY a protest) are not actions that violate any law, are they? (This is separate from the very enlightening money-following being done by DataRepublican and others.)
Supplying weapons – prosecute. Training in attack tactics – I don’t know for sure, since you might be able to claim you’re just military hobbyists or something, but I would certainly try to prosecute that too. Supplying masks – I honestly don’t know how legally defensible Trump’s (and others’) forbidding of masks will turn out to be; I hate masks and believe that if you’re moved to protest in our country, you ought to do so with your face showing (I might think differently in countries where people really are “disappeared” for protesting).
I’m trying to draw, and keep to, a distinction between unlawful activities and lawful if unsavory ones. And it’s not that easy a distinction to make, ISTM – intent, which is of course so difficult to prove, would seem to matter in some of these questions.
The “peaceful protesters” are the sheep’s clothing the Democrat wolves use to embed their violent thugs, similar to Hamas hiding among civilians.
