  1. I’m pleased you featured a girl singer, but this was not the best selection. What’s engaging about it is you can see that late adolescents in the Anglosphere ca. 1965 were properly dressed when they went out dancing. (I’m afraid Miss deShannon’s get up is frankly ugly, however).

  2. Congratulations to your town and school district, Chases Eagles! We’ll see if the state thinks pursuing lawsuits against a district with 83 students is worthwhile.

  3. Chases Eagles, Yea for rebels! Ditto Kate’s comment. Keep us posted?
I hope all 83 are also being taught to love America. We need them to repopulate our towns, everywhere.

  4. Because the majority of our institutions (including journalism, unfortunately) are hopelessly biased, many Trump supporters tend to give him the benefit of the doubt in all things. Statements like this aimed at Bruce Springsteen are highly inappropriate for the leader of a large, powerful nation and commander in chief of a military to make:

“This dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just ‘standard fare’. Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”

First, I’m no fan of Springsteen’s. I’ve always found him annoying, even when the majority of my friends and peers thought he was the cat’s pajamas.
Second, I found Springsteen’s recent remarks on stage in England tedious, thoughtless, cowardly and boring. It’s such a tired pose.
Third, I don’t think Trump means to threaten with his statement. I think he is making a prediction that Springsteen’s support and relevance will diminish.

But a man as popular as DJT, with as many followers as DJT, with a military in his back pocket, ought to choose his words much more carefully, especially when making personal attacks. I don’t think incitement was his intent, but one doesn’t have to use nuance to interpret his statement as incitement.

  5. Mike,

I’m about half way through Mamet’s, “Everywhere an Oink Oink” which is also illustrated by Mamet. It’s a funny and cynical view of Hollywood based on his tenure there.

  6. Barry,

I have Twain’s autobiography and have read at least one biography of his, along with a great many of his works. The size of his autobiography is daunting, but he dictated it to his secretary mainly in a series of vignettes, so it’s a good book for simply picking up and opening to any page and reading for 5 – 10 pages.

I don’t recall him specifically complaining about the difficulties and struggles in his life, but it is revealing for just how difficult everyday life was for Americans in the 1800s.

  7. Rufus wrote

[per Trump, Springsteen] "ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just ‘standard fare’. Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”
…one doesn’t have to use nuance to interpret his statement as incitement.

I think only Democrat media and their fellow travelers would call this incitement to violence. However, if the “justice system,” IRS, FBI etc. wanted to target Bruce, that would be possible. But there are so many Democrat embeds in those groups.

  9. He is certainly remarkable, perhaps even “sui generis” (though in his case, “sui generous” might be more apropos)…

Everyone has their preferences certainly; but for me, if I had only one book to read it would be “Life on the Mississippi”.
(Heck, I guess I’d also throw in “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”…
—Fortunately, many more books are available!)

  10. This dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) …

    –Trump on Springsteen

I’m not fond of Springsteen’s politics these days but he looks awfully good for a guy in his mid-70s. He definitely works out. Maybe he’s had some “work” done too.

I did enjoy Trump’s troll showing him hitting a golf ball which knocks Springsteen down as Springsteen stumbles to the stage.

  11. I completely agree with Rufus T. Firefly that Trump sometimes needs to shut up, including in moments like this. That said, I’ll take Trump’s running loudmouth over the tendency of the Bush family, or indeed much of the GOP elected oficialdom, to just keep quiet and take it.

  12. Indeed, Springsteen is a distraction.
Who cares about him or any of those other hysterics in show business?

THIS is what the focus should be on…in order to thwart the power of the corporate, tyrannical state and those who believe they must implement it. (Take a long, hard look at the UK, most of the EU, Canada, Oz, and “Biden”’s America…for starters…):
