  1. The well-read readers of this blog have likely, at some time, come across a picture of a modern astronomical observatory, and seen laser beams coming out of it. If you’ve ever wondered why, here’s why.

    https://scitechdaily.com/this-giant-telescope-shoots-lasers-into-space-and-its-brilliant/

The lasers excite sodium atoms about 90 kilometers above the ground, making them glow brightly. These glowing points act as “guide stars.” By observing how these artificial stars are distorted by the Earth’s atmosphere, the telescope can determine how to correct for the same turbulence that makes natural stars twinkle.

To make these corrections, UT4 uses its adaptive optics system. This system can precisely adjust the shape of the telescope’s secondary mirror in real-time, counteracting the blurring effects of the atmosphere. Thanks to adaptive optics, UT4 can capture images from the ground that are almost as sharp as those taken from space.

  2. I’m not sure why the… “activity”? “demonstration”?… with the cookies should seem cruel. Maybe it’s a test by the parents to see how their daughter’s ethical sensibility is developing. Maybe it’s a bit of a vanity display whereby they can show the same (and if this is true, then I can see a little bit where the seeming cruelty could come into play, but I’m not sure this is the reason for the video).

I don’t like the fact that the mother asked ‘what am I gonna eat?’ Argh… is it so terrible to get proper diction into the poor girl’s head while she can still absorb it? going to, for Pete’s sake. See, if you want to find cruelty, there’s some cruelty. Barbarians.

This latest business with the AfD is a bit troubling. Wacky. Has the AfD ever offered violence in the streets? I haven’t heard it, but they’ve had violence done upon them on many occasions. Oh, but they’re the extremists. I suppose I’ll have to soon expect to see government placards: “Deutsche, wehrt Euch! Kauft nicht bei AfD-lern!” Might as well brace for it now….

  3. Those parents are just bucking for better jobs! Virtue signaling at it’s finest. That poor little girl is already so indoctrinated I expect the next words out of her mouth are “Trump is Hitler”, or some such rant.

What is really scary is look how deeply ingrained in the younger culture the Communist party has become. They teach these parents how to indoctrinate the idea of socialism into a baby. Those “pre-school” teachers whoever they are, wherever they may be are truly dangerous communist flunkies–doing the bidding of their handlers. Here you can see why it will take at least three generations of day in and day out focused effort to destroy the ideology wherever it appears–even in pre-school teachers!

  4. As expected, my D friends are melting down over the Trump as pope pic. He really knows how to troll these people and keep them totally insane. Truly funny at how serious they take him.

One said, “He’s going straight to hell!! God doesn’t put up with that shit!” LOL.

  5. Ds seem, as a group, to have entirely lost any sense of humor they may have had. What a sad way to live.

  6. Anne:

    I disagree.

Sharing food with family members is quite a different thing from socialism.

  7. Kate,
New one this afternoon, not sure where it came from, but has a pic of a geographic fault with headline: “Trump to rename the San Andreas fault to Joe Bidens fault”

I thought it was really funny…BabylonBee level. All the Ds going on about how he would definitely do that. These people are so lost.

  8. While playing a “sharing” exercise with a child is…meh ok…at some level; please spare me the “put it online for all the world to see.”
Of all the parenting “mistakes,” to make, that one is grating.

  9. John Guilfoyle:

That’s my objection as well. I called that “cruel” although perhaps that’s not the right word. But I do think the child’s reaction was very sweet.

  10. physicsguy, I remember when Trump jokingly asked Russia to release Hillary Clinton’s emails if they had them. It was hilarious. Dems took it very seriously — Russian collusion, you know. My husband just laughed out loud at the “Joe Biden’s fault” line. This lack of the ability to laugh looks like a mental disorder.

  12. Once asked my young daughter to share her potato chips.
She pulled one from the bag, broke off a little piece, and handed it to me.

    Better than nothing, I guess.
