The left retains control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court — 11 Comments

  1. Over the past few days Elon Musk was everywhere arguably being a bit hyperbolic about this particular race, essentially claiming that the future of humanity was at stake. While the loss was inarguably definitely a bad thing, I’m unconvinced he needed to go so far. It’s possible that he may have even galvanized many lefty Wisconsinites who are afflicted with TDS and EDS by saying such things. Or not.

  2. A 10% margin of victory is huge. In California, I used to assume that the Dems can move something like a whole percentage point, in election fraud, if they try hard. It might be something larger now, but nowhere near 10%, I would hope.

The abortion issue strikes again. I’ll bet most folks don’t really grasp the redistricting gambit.

  3. Marisa:

Thanks. I seem to be doing a lot of that sort of thing today. Haste makes waste.

A lot of the same letters – and of course Walker was in Wisconsin, too. Will fix.

  4. Crawford has, I believe, been very public about pro-Democrat redistricting. This should lead to her recusal, if ethics mean anything, which probably they don’t, alas.

  5. What did anyone expect? Wisconsin is nearly tied with three other states (California, New York and Illinois ) for being the North Korea of the Americas.

  6. They flip the house and Trump starts arresting donkeys or their children in the numbers required to flip it back. Whole bunch of them have their derrières hanging out.

  7. Looking from the outside the whole business of electing judges seems bound to invite politicisation.
On what grounds do you expect people to vote? Very difficult to know the true ability of a judge but reading their statements on Roe v Wade is easy enough.
A quick look at the Supreme Court shows a history of Republican and Democrat Presidents appointing conservative or liberal justices. The constitutional role of the judiciary makes them more political.
As for the money US politics invites this flood of cash to every election as big spenders are more likely to lose and those who do not spend big are very unlikely to win. Since Citizens Utd this has just got worse. The amounts spent on this race are ridiculous and bound to stir suspicions about fairness.
Add this to the hyper partisanship of US politics and you have an unhealthy situation. All judges backed by the other side are political. All funding for the other side is shady and all election victories for the other side are immediately thought of as ballot rigging.
In the UK elections are conducted with pen and paper. They are very open and you can watch the count taking place. This is an exciting and often brutal affair as you watch the physical bundles of your opponent pile up as yours flounder. All these voting machines, however honest, will always raise suspicion in a way pen and paper does not.

  8. Given results in other recent elections, I think the abortion issue was deciding factor.

  9. No its about power, in this case redistricting act 10 and a host of other items on the menu also as we discovered the procrustian lockdowns and vaccine mandates
