Freeing the captive: four more hostages are back in Israel — 12 Comments

  1. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.

    –Isaiah 61:1 (KJV)

Included, and not in competition, for our Jan 6ers.

    Thanks be to God.

  2. Kate:

Certainly! I’m just struck by the “coincidence” of the Hamas hostages and J6ers starting to come home at the same time.

If Trump hadn’t turned his head that day last July….

  3. Such a wonderful thing to see these families reunited. It’s a start that I hope continues until all the living hostages are released.

The wars in Ukraine and the ME have induced a profound sadness in me. So much death, catastrophic injury, and destruction.

Many years ago, I flew with a WWII bomber pilot who had flown 50 missions over Germany. He was highly decorated and a genuine hero. But the war in Vietnam created a sense of deep sadness in him. I didn’t understand what he was going through at the time. Now, I do.

When you’re young and in the military, you do your duty because that’s what men do – defend their country. You fought the fight and hoped it was going to bring peace. But then another war breaks out and you realize that what you fought for, peace, doesn’t last.

When I see the depth of hatred that the Islamic jihadists have for Israel, it’s distressing. Until that hatred goes away, there will be no real peace.

Until nations like Russia quit coveting their neighbors’ lands, there will be no peace. And all that makes me very sad.

  4. “Something has to happen,” Trump said. “But it’s literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything’s demolished, and people are dying there.” He added: “So, I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations, and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change.”

Solid common sense once again. Relentless non-stop rule of common sense, contra the conventional elitist garbage thinking of the Obamist twerpers. Hulk, smash!

  5. @ sdferr – I went to the AP post that Guard referenced, and this is now my new favorite Trump mic drop line:

During a 20-minute question-and-answer session with reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump also said he’s ended his predecessor’s hold on sending 2,000-pound bombs to Israel. That lifts a pressure point that had been meant to reduce civilian casualties during Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza that is now halted by a tenuous ceasefire.

“We released them today,” Trump said of the bombs. “They’ve been waiting for them for a long time.” Asked why he lifted the ban on those bombs, Trump responded, “Because they bought them.”

I doubt he believes that all of Gaza can be emptied, and I’m sure he knows why the Arabs have refused to accept Palestinians as refugees or settlers in the last 70 year or so, but he’s always ready to throw ideas against the wall and see who takes the bait.
    Or whatever.

Trump has offered non-traditional views on the future of Gaza in the past. He suggested after he was inaugurated on Monday that Gaza has “really got to be rebuilt in a different way.”

The new president added then, ”Gaza is interesting. It’s a phenomenal location, on the sea. The best weather, you know, everything is good. It’s like, some beautiful things could be done with it, but it’s very interesting.”

The people who resettled from Israeli territory to Gaza during the early wars (all initiated by the Arab states) could have made a wonderful country, but they were more interested in killing Jews.

    Sad.

The UN has not done well by them.

The spokesperson claimed that, “UNRWA has the most robust systems in place in comparison to other United Nations agencies when it comes to the adherence to the principle of neutrality with regards to our programs that we do and our staff.”

In August, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini confirmed the probable involvement of UNRWA employees in the Oct.7 massacre. He later confirmed that at least nine UNRWA staffers were fired after an internal probe.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
Makes you wonder about the neutrality of the other UN agencies.

  6. I really wish there was a written version or transcript of the Rabbi’s talk. I do much better reading than listening.

  7. There’s a lot of Hebrew jargon in his talk. I’m no expert, but a few terms appear frequently:
    halacha – Jewish law
    chatufim – prisoners of war
    mitzvah – commandment of obligation
pidyon shvuyim – redemption of captives (a mitzvah)
chachamim, tosafos, rishonim – sages and commentaries on the Talmud
p’kuach nefesh – saving a life (one of the highest priority mitzvahs)
mishna, gemara – the two main components of the Talmud
    pshita, pshat – literal translation

  8. AesopFan: “Makes you wonder about the neutrality of the other UN agencies.”

I assume all UN agencies and activities are biased unless proven otherwise.

  9. Thanks AesopFan and sdferr,

Nothing beats a good laugh to put one in a proper mood. This,

Asked why he lifted the ban on those bombs, Trump responded, “Because they bought them.”

Just hit my funny bone for some reason, and I’ve been laughing off and on for at least a half hour now.
