  1. I have two predictions for 2025. These are based not on any deep analysis, but strictly on vibes.

–There is going to be a lot of new activity in manufacturing: startups, reshoring, rollups of small shops, skills training, and much more respect.

–The fertility rate will tick upwards.

  2. Oliver Cromwell dismisses the Rump Parliament:

“It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice.

Ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government.

Ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess?

Ye have no more religion than my horse. Gold is your God. Which of you have not bartered your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defiled this sacred place, and turned the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices?

Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation. You were deputed here by the people to get grievances redressed, are yourselves become the greatest grievance.

Your country therefore calls upon me to cleanse this Augean stable, by putting a final period to your iniquitous proceedings in this House; and which by God’s help, and the strength he has given me, I am now come to do.

I command ye therefore, upon the peril of your lives, to depart immediately out of this place.

Go, get you out! Make haste! Ye venal slaves be gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors.

In the name of God, go!”

  3. Well he did it. New preemptive pardons for Liz, Tony, Millie and others. Trump has a free hand now to pardon all J6’ers, even those not “found”. Plus others. My Wife suggested Trump issue pardons for his family, but that is early, wait until his last day in office.
    What Fun we are having.
On, -4 last night, not above 9 today, -9 tonight. and another 4 + inches of snow on the ground. Staying in, snow can wait for another day

  4. My understanding is that the whole “preemptive pardon” concept has nevery really been tested and legal scholars disagree on its constitutional validity. I suppose now is as good a time as any to test it. Such questions as, what protection do such pardons truly offer? For example, could the likes of Anthony Fauci and Mark Milley now openly commit homicide without any reprisal?

  5. Hunter’s pardoned him for any and all federal crimes between certain dates before the date of the pardon. I don’t see how a pardon for future crimes could possibly be valid.

It would be interesting to see the concept of blanket preemptive pardons tried in courts.

  6. On a positive note, another Morning in America. May God bless our nation and restore its health.

  7. I’m afraid my prediction is for some sort of crisis in the bond market. Hoping I’m wrong.

  8. How can one be pardoned if they have not been indicted nor convicted nor even accused of a crime?

Do these pardons set the precedent that any crimes (including murder, child rape, treason, etc) committed while holding an official (federal or state or city or county) position can be “pardoned away” at the discretion of the president??
And why not extend this pardon ability to any private citizen as well??

This broad and unlimited use of the presidential pardon, if taken to the limit, will allow any govt , military and private individuals to commit with impunity any crime whatsoever.
And if these individuals are acting on behalf of the president, then there is no limit at all to presidential powers. The president will be, de facto, a dictator, an absolute ruler.

The Trump administration had better figure out how to overturn Biden’s abuse of power.

  9. @J*F*M:Oliver Cromwell dismisses the Rump Parliament:

Yeah so he could replace them with his creatures and take over the government. People should really think about the context of what they quote.

If you’re accusing Trump of doing this, he’s not. If you just think it’s something witty to say on Biden leaving, it makes his opponents look bad to anyone who knows the context.

  10. Not easy to find the text of the pardon, but it doesn’t say what they are being pardoned for. In Hunter Biden’s case it at least gave a date range and said it was for Federal crimes.

How does a court decide something is covered by this kind of pardon? I mean what if one of them were charged with, say, a kidnapping from 1993 (a Federal crime with no statue of limitation), and their lawyer says to the court “well, they’ve been pardoned”. How does the court determine that the kidnapping is or is not covered under the pardon?

  11. My understanding is that the whole “preemptive pardon” concept has never really been tested and legal scholars disagree on its constitutional validity.

Ford’s pardon of Nixon is a precedent, though it wasn’t “tested.”

  12. LLM Time Travel:

The Englishwoman Fanny Kemble was an acclaimed Shakespearean actress and an avid diarist. She first visited the US in 1832 and married an American (the marriage was a disaster) Her impressions of America, along with her thoughts on life in general, are very interesting. I thought it would be fun to have an LLM continue her diary entries into the present-day US.
