World leaders congatulate Trump
Some interesting contrasts here. And if you go to YouTube and look at the comments, you’ll see a lot of funny ones about Milei of Argentina, such as, “Why president of Argentina look like he in a basement hiding from zombie apocalypse”:
And this is – well, just take a look:
How can you not admire someone who lost, humiliated, disgraced, canceled then makes an unbelievable comeback? It’s just an amazingly dramatic and fascinating story even if you are not into politics at all.
I was hoping to see Bukele in that montage. He was the first to congratulate Trump, at least according to this:

He is to El Salvador what Milei is to Argentina.
Only 21 Presidents have served more than one term; only 14 have served at least two full terms. (It’s hard to find a generally applicable locution for time spent as President: some Presidents were not elected to their first term and so served only part of it, and two were murdered in their second term and so couldn’t finish it).
Only 1, besides Donald Trump, has lost an election for a second term and then been elected to a second term later. Lot of shenanigans in the election that Cleveland lost to Harrison, but I’m not sure that 1888 and 2020 have all that much else in common.
How many noticed that the Trump Dance is based upon the 70s feelgood gay disco anthem, “YMCA”?
Trump knew what he was doing even if MAGA didn’t. Though I wouldn’t write off the possibility much of MAGA knew and was happy to go along.
It’s a big tent!
YMCA, and the dance itself reminds me of The Twist.
I wonder how many European leaders are secretly rooting for Trump to succeed as that will put more pressure on the EU to modify it’s economy destroying climate change agenda, aka Green New Deal?
The EU and US had comparable economies until 2014– when a divergence began. The US economy is 50% larger than the EU in 2024. Accounting for the disparity in deficit spending of about 3%, our economy is more than 30% larger than the EU.
Certainly not those leaders, in the western country
Brian E, it’ll be interesting to see the effects on the European scene. I’m not sure there’ll be all that much, but who knows? What’s the schedule of the various elections looking like over there? Maybe we could start to gauge things. Germany in February*… what else do we have lined up? There must be a fair number in four years, since that seems to be a fairly standard time frame these days.
* (bearing in mind that this one was supposed to happen later in 2025, but got moved up due to the recent German government coalition crisis)
