Do you feel the winds of change? — 41 Comments

  1. Sort of a resentful retreat on the part of the left. Covering their retreat with yet more insulting fabrications but….obviously with no effect.

  2. Star Wars IV: A New Hope, just ending.

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, begins soon.

Will Trump survive to lead Star Wars VI: The Return of the Jedi?

As to your question, it is the common belief in freedom of speech that is uniting people across the political spectrum (except maybe the left), lead by Donald Trump, which is revolutionary in itself.

I would call it a miracle.

  3. A great many people would probably date the more recent change from July 13, 2024, when he survived an assassination attempt that came within an inch – literally – of killing him.

The word “literally” is greatly overused these days. However, your use here of “literally” is entirely appropriate.

  4. The DC uniparty is going to do their best to sabotage some of Trump’s cabinet selections, e.g. Democrats will vote 100% against RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard for their disloyalty to the party, and enough Republicans will vote “no” just for spite. Gaetz will be blocked, but there is talk that if that happens DeSantis will appoint him to fill out the remainder of Rubio’s term.

  5. Winds of Déjà vu bringing signs of Republican disorder?

Made a comment this mourning about Sarah Palin – Et tu, Sarah – hinting at she had expected a Cabinet job. Missed that sign, then the ‘Flow’ directed me to another this afternoon:

Elon Musk blasts ‘mole’ in astonishing dinner blow-up at Mar-a-Lago as Trump’s golden boy is targeted by green-eyed aides

For a while, Donald Trump’s transition kept up a record-setting pace with top Cabinet picks being named against a backdrop of calm consensus.

But the knives are now out, with advisers leaking against each other to the press amid the scramble to parachute allies into plum jobs.

    Bad Signs early…?

  6. Possibility of real and lasting change? Yes, but I’ve felt that before. After Reagan’s success, the Wall comes down, and a popular Democrat is in the White House saying, “The era of big government is over,” And then, in what seemed to me pretty short order, it was all just as bad as ever.

  7. Re: Do you feel the winds of change?

Yeah, well, I toldja so, even before Trump was elected.

    It will keep changing too.

  9. How’s this for a change in the wind?

Both the NYT & CNN are reporting that Biden’s handlers have directed him to OK the firing of long-range American missiles into Russia from Ukraine. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/17/us/politics/biden-ukraine-russia-atacms-missiles.html

Since highly trained personnel are required, the Russians will rightly conclude that the US is directly involved in those attacks. The danger from attacking the nation with the largest nuclear arsenal is obvious. Trump has rightly declared this to be a crazy escalation.

On the bright side, a nuclear war would prevent Trump from taking office. (sarc/off)

Apparently, the current powers that be have embraced Stalin’s POV, “The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions… a statistic.” Once again demonstrating that the inmates are still in control of the asylum and that there is no limit to the left’s depravity.

  10. There can be no change without true contrition, and I haven’t seen any Democrat / Media contrition yet.

And as for Trump meeting with the Morning Joe creeps… hey, they may have lied ABOUT you, but they (and most of the Dems and media) lied TO me! I am not feeling magnanimous and gracious and all that! When have I ever seen a Democrat be gracious or truly apologetic. Answer: NEVER

Don, don’t go all gracious on me! It makes the hair on my neck stand on end! There’s time enough for graciousness AFTER WE WIN!

  11. It’s odd seeing Mike Plaiss’ & huxley’s comments back to back.

Well, Bill Clinton was a member of the Democrat Leadership Council. See this:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_From

I think Clinton got the federal budget under control better than most every other modern president, which isn’t saying much. But did he really mean it, when he said the era of big government is over? I doubt it.

I suspect that the combination of the Leviathan government and the deep state government is virtually impossible to fix and dramatically reduce. Maybe possibly it can be restrained a bit to postpone the eventualities. Lots more inflation is probably a sure bet over a longer term.
    _____

huxley did tell us. I feel that they “jumped the shark” in falseness and disingenuousness. Many of my friends still buy into the lies, but elections are a numbers game. There were a modest but significant number of voters who peeled off from the BS and nonsense and voted for Trump.

  12. The 13 minute chorus is now alert and aware of the asymmetrical war that Russia has been permitted to wage on Ukraine. And the 13 minute chorus still is cowed by Vladdy.

  13. I agree there is a “wind of change” but to me political parties (especially the Democrats) seem old, stale, and last century.

  14. ”…Clinton got the federal budget under control better than most every other modern president…”

No, he did not. The Republican Congress balanced the budget over Clinton’s objection. Bill Clinton vetoed the Republican balanced budget — twice — and put his cabinet officials on nationwide TV to say that his administration was opposed to the very *principle* of a balanced budget. The Congress passed it anyway with a veto-proof margin.

  15. If there really is a wind of change, it’s time for the Scorpions.

Trump 45 exceeded expectations. I worry that expectations for Trump 47 are set so high that some disappointment will be inevitable.

But I worry about a lot of things.

  16. ”Both the NYT & CNN are reporting that Biden’s handlers have directed him to OK the firing of long-range American missiles into Russia from Ukraine.”

Finally! We’ve been waiting for this for over a year now. Unfortunately, we gave the Russians a heads-up so they could move the weapons they’re using to genocide the Ukrainians out of range of those missiles. Truly evil. We should have given Ukraine permission to use those missiles a year ago with the only warning to the Russians being when a sizable chunk of their air force exploded on the tarmac.

For those of you who don’t know, the Russians have been using 6,500 lb glide bombs to attack Ukrainian cities. These weapons will not only take out an entire apartment building, they’re big enough to take out an entire city block with *thousands* of civilian casualties. And that’s exactly how the Russians have been using them.

The airplanes used to launch these terror weapons at Ukrainian cities had been stationed just across the border in Russia. The Russians knew that we were refusing to allow the Ukrainians to take out those airplanes whenever they were on the Russian side of the border, and thousands of Ukrainian civilians died as a result. As I said, truly evil.

After the heads-up the Russians repositioned those launch aircraft further away from the border, out of range of the ATACMS missiles, where they are still used to launch terror attacks against Ukrainian civilians. More evil.

Somehow, beyond my understanding, many Americans are OK with this evil. Many even cheer it on. I hang my head in shame and disbelief.

  17. “Donald Trump still seems an unlikely figure to spearhead this kind of renewal, even if we’ve gotten at least somewhat used to him occupying the Oval Office. ”

    • There’s none so blind as those who will not see

It’s beyond shameful. America, Russia and Ukraine sat down for a talk. Ukraine ends up giving up their Nukes. Years later, Ukraine gets Crimea taken from them. Years later, Trump tries to coerce Ukraine into ratting Biden out so Trump can have him tried in America. Years later, Russia reinvades Ukraine with the intent of taking it over again.

Biden basically told Ukraine – if you want our help, then you must handcuff a foot and hand behind you back—to fight Russia. How has Ukraine done fighting like this?

722,440 Russian dead troops. Approx. 2,167,320 wounded Russians.

Armored combat vehicles lost – 19,059. Tanks lost – 9,365 (Russia just brought up old tanks that were used to make movies).

Huge losses of artillery, enough air craft were loss that Russia has never had air superiority over Ukraine. Ships also loss. All of that was done with a hand handcuffed behind their back to a foot.

And much of MAGA REPs don’t want Ukraine as an ally!?!?! They want to give Ukraine to Russia—the same Russia helping Iran to destroy Israel!?!?!

    Ditto on beyond shameful…

  19. The world has indeed turned upside down. I’m going to agree with om that “FJB was and is corrupt and did Ukraine no favors in the last 4 years.”

Only it’s worse. Here’s a March 11, 2014 Reuters story that shows Biden was involved/behind the 2014 overthrow of Yanukovych.

Former Defense Secretary Bob Gates put Biden on the spot when he wrote in his memoir released in January that the vice president, over the past four decades, had been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue” – areas long viewed as his strengths.
Republican Senator John McCain said Gates’ critique had merit, telling CNN that Biden “has been wrong on a lot of these issues.” McCain has since blamed the administration’s “feckless” foreign policy for inviting the Ukraine crisis.

That’s rich, since McCain was right in the middle of the “Revolution of Dignity” along with Nuland and the State Department.

The Reuters story claims Biden was involved in forcing Yanukovych to sign the German-France brokered agreement turning Yanukovych’s cabinet over to the opposition party and making way for early presidential elections.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – As the bloodiest day of anti-government protests in Ukraine was drawing to a close last month, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden called President Viktor Yanukovich for the second time in three days and delivered a blunt message.
Pull back your security forces now and accept a European-brokered settlement or you will be held accountable, Biden warned the pro-Russian leader. “It WILL catch up with you.”

Initially defiant, Yanukovich sounded subdued by the end of the hour-long call, according to a senior U.S. official knowledgeable of the conversation. Within hours, Yanukovich signed a deal with the opposition and then fled to Russia.
Whether Biden’s 11th-hour warning was decisive or merely served in a supporting role to European Union negotiators, his intensive telephone diplomacy illustrates the kind of troubleshooting that has become integral to his portfolio in President Barack Obama’s second term.

Only the rioters, led by Right Sector militants, rejected the agreement. Yanukovych did flee for his life, which left the country in a constitutional crisis.

Your beef should be with Obama and Biden. After Yanukovych was deposed, Crimea and Donbas declared their independence and shortly after Russia entered Ukraine.

Fast forward to 2021, Biden did little to dissuade Russia’s SMO and was slow to provide military aid to Ukraine. Had they been quicker to provide the amount of military equipment Ukraine needed, the outcome might have been different in the early stages of the war.

  20. I’m a pessimist by nature, but even I am feeling some degree of hope. Yeah, “possibility” is the word. A month or so before the election, which I expected Harris to win, I made a comment somewhere that went something like this:

“At some distant point in the future the Trump episode will be seen as a tragic turning point in the decline of the United States. He grasped the essence of what had gone wrong: that the rulers of the country despised most of the people and governed accordingly. But he was not a man who could do much to slow and reverse it. The ruling class responded by clamping down even harder.”

I said that in some conservative-friendly venue, possibly here. I had intended to post it on Facebook, where progressive friends and family would see it, a day or two after the election, just to express my disdain for their program.

In the event, I didn’t, because it became not-applicable for the moment and I hope it stays that way. Sometimes one really can be happy to be wrong.

  21. I am amazed that enough people arose and saw through the eternal gaslighting fog! And that Trump persisted, fought, and prevailed. Almost a miracle.

  22. that guy:

I happen to like much of what Trump does at this point, and have since a few months into his first term. Nevertheless, he is still an unlikely figure, compared to presidents of the past. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It merely means that he’s different, and not someone originally seen by most people as likely to become president.

  23. Judging by what we have seen from the once mighty Russian military – how up-to-date and reliable do you think their nuclear arsenal is? 25% don’t work? Another 25% hit or explode over their own land & cities? Ukraine has exposed a lot…well worth any money and aid we give them.

Ukraine fires first US-made missile into Russia: WW3 fears as Kremlin threatens ‘nuclear response’ if long-range Western weapons are used on its territory

Long past due…NATO should’ve been providing full air support over Ukraine since Russia reinvaded. Ukraine should’ve been allow to strike any ‘n all military targets in Russia – including Russia’s power supply ‘n stations.

    Better late than never tho…

  24. DAVID PATRIKARAKOS looks at the Ukraine-Russia war 1,000 days into the conflict: The Russians are attacking like psychos, charging headlong into the meat grinder

.. Russia is integral to creating the alternate world order Beijing wants to build and lead.

The ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy’ doctrine that underpins Chinese foreign policy stipulates that countries should work together on a ‘common destiny’. Make no mistake, the North Korea-Russia partnership, especially if successful in Kursk, brings the ‘common destiny’ of dismantling American and Western hegemony one step closer.

Trump’s imbecilic son Donald Trump Jr was enraged at Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use the long-range ATACMS missiles, tweeting: ‘The Military Industrial Complex seems to want to make sure they get World War 3 going before my father has a chance to create peace and save lives. Gotta lock in those $Trillions. Life be damned!!! Imbeciles!’

As ever his words no doubt gave succour to Putin, who warned in September that any use of ATACMS in Russia would change ‘the very essence, the nature of the conflict’.

Treasonous words by Donald Trump Jr…as if Putin himself had written them.

‘Trump reminds me of Neville Chamberlain. He said he would bring peace, but instead brought us World War II. Now, Trump could bring us World War III.’

  25. Not very optimistic. There have been some improvements in public policy and institutional life during my lifetime, but there are invariably malevolent people seeking to undo them.
    ==
Cannot figure what the analogy is for our current situation – early 20th century Spain, perhaps. Or late Bourbon France.

  26. In both my personal and professional life I try to practice these three beliefs:

    1) Do not kick a man when he is down (see DeSantis supporters after Iowa).

    2) Know how to accept ‘Yes’ for an answer (see Trump’ primary & election victories).

    3) Give a man his due (see Trump’ MAGA movement, 2016-20 record, 2020-24 perseverance, and 2024 election & governing coalition).

  27. Winds of change, not so much. Swamp gassing winds of bean-fed fulminators a la Blazing Saddles, more like.

  28. that guy. #1

I generally agree. However, for the past 14 years, since Obama, the Ds/libs have behaved despicably towards us. Some comeuppance is needed. They are the type of people who only understand when their ass is kicked. And they deserve a whoopin’.

  29. I want revenge.

    Wikipedia
The Romans agreed to pay one thousand pounds weight of gold. According to Livy, during a dispute over the weights used to measure the gold (the Gauls had brought their own, heavier-than-standard), Brennus threw his sword onto the scales and uttered the famous words “Vae victis!”, which translates to “woe to the conquered!”.

  30. Winds of change?
    One can only hope so.

Alas at this point it’s looking more like a cyclone of stupidity…with Trump and Co. the only ones providing some semblance of a windbreak.
Hope they can make it strong enough to withstand the tremendous animosity of all the raving, rampaging, self-righteous imbeciles.

  31. I don’t know if Trump’s strategy will work, but in the meantime I feel enormously better knowing two things: my countrymen aren’t as crazy as I was beginning to fear over the last 4 years, and it’s still possible for an election to take place without crippling corruption.
