Milton-not-the-poet is coming. Brace for impact early next week Tues-Wed.
Not sure how many here have seen this video. Take a look. Rules is Rules, no matter what. Hope that woman is an elected official, and gets replaced. As for the fire official, what a putz. Hope you can see it. If not it’s at The Feral Irishman. https://x.com/Samstwitch_Sam/status/1842314266453389783?r
It is widely stated, but false, that Constantine established Christianity as the state religion. He simply did not. That wasn’t done until Theodosius, at the end of the century (sort of). All Constantine did was declare toleration, and tried to get them to settle controversies.
Of course, the real account of how cats joined themselves to man is here:
As usual, the one who made this is lax with “Medieval”. Anyone who jumps from the fall of Rome to the 1480s in about a minute really shouldn’t be taken seriously.
I do confess I’m with Shel Silverstein on this subject.
We are approaching the one year anniversary of the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
Filmmaker Igal Hecht created the film “The Killing Roads” for you to see for free in its entirety.
Movie at link, 1:54:48 — it’s a documentary by Igal Hecht built on contemporary “peacetime” footage of the roads with interviews of survivors and their stories intercut with Hamas fiends’ footage of their murder sprees. It’s hard to see, yet no less needful for that.
Just another open-thread comment about the presidential election. It’s probably worth noting that I’m a natural pessimist. For example, I never thought that Trump had a chance against Hillary Clinton.
Even though the election is a month away, mail-in voting has already started in many states. By the time November 5th rolls around, the election will be pretty much over. The Democrats will then only need to polish up close results with more illegal ballots. Okay, I exaggerate, but not by much.
The Democrats’ latest gambit for election cheating is to import illegal aliens to swing states. You can bet every one of them will be given a mail-in ballot, along with their fake id’s. Below, I’ve listed the number of recent illegals imported to swing states, by Biden/Harris. The data was compiled by an organization called “Leading Report,” about which I know nothing. “Leading Report” claims to have obtained the data from court filings. They then published it at X (Twitter), as a percentage increase in illegals per state.
The illegals ballots can be harvested as soon as mail-in voting is allowed. Below, I’ve compiled a list of those dates. The list is derived from a variety of sources, and was provided by Perplexity.ai, as an answer to a question posed by me.
Georgia – October 15, 2024 (early voting begins)
North Carolina – September 6, 2024 (for military voters)
Pennsylvania – October 1, 2024 (ballots start being mailed)
Arizona – October 12, 2024 (early voting begins)
Nevada – October 1, 2024 (ballots start being mailed)
Michigan – September 28, 2024 (ballots start being mailed)
Wisconsin – September 23, 2024 (ballots start being mailed)
For those who might be interested, Sabine has a fantastic new video up where she chastises the physics establishment. Very much needed. She specifically calls out Quantum gravity theorists for producing the same nonsense for decades. And she hits upon the real problem, yeah you guessed it: money. Like fusion research, QG keeps getting funded at higher levels with no return. Much like CERN wanting to build an even bigger collider and their request is tied into the theorists….a big circle of money chasing.
For many, physics has become a “career” in a negative sense. That is, many pursue physics not so much for the science as for a “career” path: find a current “hot” field, get grants, write papers that contribute really nothing to the physics but stay relevant in the “field”, get more grants, rinse and repeat.
@ Shirehome > “Not sure how many here have seen this video. Take a look. Rules is Rules, no matter what.”
Thanks for the link. I was very impressed with the local news reporter. He asked good questions of the official spokesperson, but was not confrontational. She had the hard job of putting a good face on what everyone knew was an officious demonstration of “who owns the territory,” as the newsman implied.
I know that coordination and control is important in rescue operations, because random actors can impede or at least not improve efficacy, but that is NOT what these officials were doing. If they had been actually in control and working to coordinate actions of public and private people and organizations, the pilot clearly was willing to work within their parameters, but they apparently were NOT doing anything of the kind.
She said “he should have checked in with incident command” which is true, but whoever manned that post should have been vetting and then using the help offered, not blanket refusing it and threatening arrest. That was the real kicker, IMO. A polite “thanks but no thanks” was all that should have been said; better yet, a “thanks and please see these people to get integrated in the rescue ops” was the proper response.
Bottom line: no matter who was “in charge” the pilots were bringing people back alive, and that should have been the ONLY consideration about whether they could help or not.
Note the newsman’s remarks on the city turning around the next day and inviting all those “unqualified” people to come back again and resume their “dangerous” flights!
PS The city spokesperson kept harping on how dangerous this work was for the “untrained” helpers, and the city was concerned for their safety yada yada yada; after reading a lot of news reports, it looks like many of them were better trained than the officials. Plus, I still remember the past stories of “trained officials” standing around on a beach and watching people DROWN because it wasn’t safe to go rescue them, while private swimmers did exactly that.
Yep, Milton on its way. Not looking good, Cat 3 or 4 hitting the west coast of Florida yesterday into Wednesday. Recovery resources already stretched out.
From Hoyt’s blog yesterday.
If an agency can’t get its act together after 20 years and perform its legislated duties effectively, it needs to be disbanded.

We had flooding in our basement the other day, but not from the hurricane – it was from a new washing machine that the appliance service guy didn’t install properly ? Anyway, I was sorting through a box of newspaper clippings that had gotten only slightly wet, and found a story from 2006 about a tornado that hit my hometown in 2004…. and the story was all about how disappointed the residents were with FEMA! One of my parents neighbors was quoted as saying “If you see FEMA, run!” She added that while watching TV coverage of Katrina in 2005, she yelled at the TV “Tell them (FEMA) to go home!” The more things change…

“The people here are, with the exception of the People’s Republic of Asheville, about evenly divided between Trump supporters and those who believe Trump coddled the Commies too much, so efforts to ensure they get to cast ballots this year may be a trifle lax, although I would not be surprised if many ballots in their names are not received, especially if postmarks are not carefully examined.”
Best wishes to Florida. You’re going to need them. For those not close enough to Appalachia to send or deliver supplies by road, I suggest donations to Samaritan’s Purse. Centered in Boone, NC, headed by the Rev. Franklin Graham, they are on the ground and are asking for volunteers to distribute aid, which they are already doing. This is an overtly Christian group, which may give some people pause; however, they are delivering aid right now.

“First Hawaii now North Carolina. I think we have to come to grips with the fact that we are living under an occupation government, like France under the Nazis or Greece under the Ottoman Turks. We are not their constituents. Their loyalties lie elsewhere.”
Indeed.
On a lighter note, it seems that Kamala Harris had a teleprompter malfunction in Michigan. That inspired Ed Driscoll at Instapundit to retrieve this oldie-but-goodie by Iowahawk (the creator of “T. Coddington Van Vorhees VII” of “The National Topsider”) from 2008:
P.S. A Web search on “national topsider” produced the following massive AI fail. Apologies for the length, but this needs to be savored in its entirety, complete with the helpful “Note” and questions-for-further-discussion at the end.
“National topsider
The National Topsider is an iconoclastic conservative journal founded in 1948 by T. Coddington Van Voorhees VI. It is known for its blunt and irreverent style, making it useful to both critics and supporters of conservatism. The journal has a reputation for being unafraid to challenge conventional wisdom and has been a platform for conservative intellectuals.
Membership and Events
The National Topsider has a membership program, with Chairman T. Coddington Van Voorhees VII overseeing its activities. The journal hosts exclusive events, such as a top-level strategy conference in Nassau, featuring prominent conservative thinkers from various publications.
Conservative Identity
The National Topsider’s conservative identity is reflected in its endorsement of candidates and its coverage of political issues. While some may view its endorsement process as unconventional, it has raised eyebrows among certain conservative circles, particularly among alumni of elite colleges like Michigan or Dartmouth.
Influence and Legacy
The National Topsider has had a lasting impact on conservative thought and has been a significant voice in the conservative movement. Its influence can be seen in its ability to shape the conversation and provide a platform for conservative intellectuals.
Note: The term “Topsider” is also used to describe a type of boat shoe, specifically Sperry Top-Sider, which is a brand known for its high-quality leather products. However, in this context, the focus is on the National Topsider journal and its conservative ideology.
Follow up
What are some notable controversies or criticisms surrounding the National Topsider’s editorial stance or endorsement practices?
Can you provide examples of influential articles or writers associated with the National Topsider, and how have their perspectives evolved over time?
What role has the National Topsider played in shaping conservative thought and policy on specific issues, such as foreign policy or economic regulation?”
Bringing gravity into quantum mechanics is challenging because of how weak gravity is compared to the other forces, and so has to be investigated under extreme conditions in order to get clues about how it ought to work: black holes and particle colliders and whatnot.
It would be odd to think that quantum physics works on everything but gravity. I don’t have any ideas about what the real theory would look like that could incorporate it, or if even if we should expect to see one. I don’t blame them for trying to look for it, but it’s not low-hanging fruit and it’s expensive, I do think that money could be used more effectively.
But there’s a lot of other things for physicists to investigate, and they do. What you hear about physics in the media is not necessarily representative of where physicists are putting in their time. About 1/3 of physics PhDs go into condensed matter and materials science. Another 1/3 are in biological, nuclear, atomic & molecular, optical or applied physics. Properties of materials is a big field, and there’s usually obvious applications, and so there’s usually money to study that, but most of what’s done doesn’t make the news.

For commenter “Karmi,” a fact-check from CNN…
OK, so CNN is NOW a ‘Reliable’ source…er, OK. 🙂
I spelled it out for y’all HERE (September 29, 2024 at 7:31 am), but can’t connect-the-dots for you.
Here’s the last dot—if it will help:
Then came MOMS Act and the ‘ESTABLISHMENT OF PREGNANCY.GOV’ – WEBSITE
That Pregnancy.Gov site is the prep work (aka Backdoor Channel) for introducing the Project 2025’s Mandates into the Federal Govt for future enforcement…
DEMs caught REPs on that chicanery, and they seem to be hammering it home—to women, in my area, but don’t know about other areas since they don’t seem to be using a megaphone to announce it. Mainly flyers here, and commercials on Tubi. Is it working? Not their flyers or ads convinced me, but the Project 2025 > Mandate > and MOMS Act did…simply connect the dots!
there should be some basis for a hypothesis, is there another force that in operating around these forces,
the flying spaghetti monster will get us all in the end, sigh
I believe everyone already knew the DEMs would win the House.
Am beginning to think that the DEMs are focusing more on winning the House and the Senate than the REPs are. They don’t seem to be LOUD about this focus, IMHO, which is probably unusual for them (yes?).
Good strategy, if that is what they are doing. Heck, Harris is certainly no prize, so maybe they are planning like this in case Trump wins…I dunno.
miguel,
Both QM and GR are extremely successful theories explaining a multitude of phenomena. As QM has both space and time components it should fit with GR. It already does fit well with Special relativity via the Dirac equation, which gave us the origin of spin and also negative energy states of antimatter, so one would hope there’s a way to fit it with GR. A quest that has been going on for almost 80 years now with no success.
No doubt stated it here and other places that the goal of mail voting isn’t the recipient of the ballot voting as much as getting the numbers of ballots out there to be made up with fraud ballots. And ballot scooping as how many Illegals stay at a temporary residence this mail vote was sent to for long leaving that blank ballot out there to be grabbed by nefarious operators?
No, I don’t think CNN is particularly reliable, but in this case they’re correct. Stopped clock, etc. Taylor Swift has “done her research” and chosen her side. She’s entitled to believe what she wants to believe, and so are you, Karmi. But I did think it was funny that even CNN knows this isn’t factual.
@miguel:there should be some basis for a hypothesis
Yes, gravity is real, atoms are real, gravity pulls on atoms, so yes that’s good evidence that there ought to be some kind of quantum gravity theory. But no one knows what it is.
Now maybe one of the three things I listed above isn’t really true. At that point theorists have their work cut out for them because their new theory would have to explain why those things appear to be true. Not the first time it’s happened. Quantum mechanics and general relativity both explain why Newtonian mechanics appeared to be true for so long, but they don’t explain each other.
it could be possible, but it would be limited in application,I think
@ Kate – I quoted the Project 2025 MANDATE and the MOMS Act. Don’t really care what Walz said. Quick glance thru that CNN Fact Check does show Walz not being able to connect the dots, and he doesn’t say what the MANDATE and MOMS Act say—not from what I glanced over anyway. At one point, his statements seemed to even confuse the CNN author…
@ Kate > “No, I don’t think CNN is particularly reliable, but in this case they’re correct. Stopped clock, etc.”
I read through about 6 stories from the CNN sidebar. A couple should have been clearly labeled as “op-eds” instead of masquerading as news (that used to be the usual procedure, but “journalists” today seem to believe their opinions qualify as facts).
Two, however, were balanced enough IMO to qualify as “reliable” — I didn’t see a big skew to the left (or the right, not that they ever would), although reporters can’t seem to shake their inbuilt biases completely.
The Butler rally story did contain a lot of useful information on the security improvements, which seem to have operated as they should have the first time.
OTOH, I still don’t think CNN likes Trump very much.
Note the totally gratuitous J6 jab in the middle of the post. https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/05/politics/musk-trump-rally-butler/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc
“The claim made by Musk sounded much like the warnings frequently said by allies of Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden about Trump. But it is the former president, not Democrats, who spoke to a crowd prior to the insurrection at the US Capitol on the January 6, 2021, and then was inactive for more than three hours as the events unfolded there.”
And to Hubert: thanks for the Iowahawk Golden Oldie.
More people should have listened to him back then.
Hey, I bought a pair of Topsider boat shoes to spite the whole state of New Mexico.
I’m a quarter-Mexican. Wearing Topsiders. I showed ’em!
PS. They’re nice shoes. If you wear them on flat surfaces and the the laces don’t break — a real pain to replace.
I no longer believe DEMs MSM or REPs RWM (right-wing media) – certainly not at this point in this election cycle. Have been surprised by the lies from REPs and their RWM. Almost shocked by the REPs Abortion tactics, i.e., they could not accept the win on Abortion by the SCOTUS, and instead used deceitful methods in an attempt to Federally criminalize pregnant women terminating pregnancies in states that supported Abortion and/or other terminating methods. REPs thirst for creating Laws & Rules to force other Americans to abide by the REPs opinions—or face prison—is unquenchable.
I already knew that Trump held a grudge against Ukraine & Zelensky (see ‘Trump–Ukraine scandal’), but did not realize that Trump may have held even earlier suspicions & distrust of Ukraine until I read that article. Here’s Trump being accused of traitorous acts involving Russia—he and members of his team and/or administration being investigated on what turned out to be trumped up charges, and then this report of him asking Putin for advice on how to deal with Ukraine!?!?!?!
The roots of Donald Trump’s animus toward Ukraine — an issue with profound consequences should he be elected again — can be found in a yearlong series of events spanning 2016 and 2017.
Running out of links, so here’s the 3rd one – did trump ask putin for advice on ukraine. That’s a Google search – use your own search engine if you don’t like Google…
Here is the AI portion of my search and investigation. ChatGPT said no to “did trump ask putin for advice on ukraine”. CoPilot said “Sorry, elections are a super complex topic that I’m not trained to chat about. Is there something else I can help with?”
Grok – did trump ask putin for advice on ukraine:
Yes, Donald Trump reportedly asked Vladimir Putin for advice on whether the U.S. should help arm Ukraine at their first in-person meeting. This incident underscores Trump’s approach to foreign policy, where he sometimes sought insights from leaders like Putin, which stirred controversy due to Putin’s actions regarding Ukraine and broader geopolitical tensions. This interaction reflects Trump’s unconventional diplomatic methods, often prioritizing direct engagement with leaders like Putin, despite the contentious nature of their relationship and the implications for U.S. foreign policy, particularly concerning Ukraine.
perplexity – did trump ask putin for advice on ukraine:
Based on the search results, it appears that Donald Trump did ask Vladimir Putin for advice regarding Ukraine during their first in-person meeting in Hamburg, Germany in July 2017. Here are the key details:
Trump’s Meeting with Putin
In July 2017, just seven months into his presidency, Trump met with Putin in Hamburg. During this meeting:
• Trump informed Putin that his administration was considering arming Ukraine
• Trump then asked Putin directly: “What do you think?”
• Putin responded that arming Ukraine would be “a mistake” and warned that Ukraine would only ask for more
Aftermath and Implications
• According to three American officials present at the summit, Trump did not push back against Putin’s response
• After the meeting, then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reportedly told White House aides: “We’ve got work to do to change the president’s mind on Ukraine.”
• Fiona Hill, a member of Trump’s National Security Council staff, stated that “Putin was basically telling [Trump] that you can’t trust Ukraine, and don’t give them anything.”
Context and Concerns
This interaction has raised concerns about Trump’s stance on Ukraine, especially in light of:
• Trump’s history of praising Putin and attempting to build friendly relations with Russia
• His reluctance to explicitly support Ukraine’s victory in the ongoing war with Russia
• Fears that a potential future Trump administration might halt military assistance to Ukraine
These revelations provide insight into the early interactions between Trump and Putin regarding Ukraine, and how they may have shaped Trump’s views and policies towards the country.
OK…getting to be too long. Maybe this is more DEM throwing out Oct surprises until one sticks. However, I care more for Trump’s recent actions—like the temper tantrum falsely accusing Zelensky of ‘Campaigning for the Democrats’ and his longer pro-Russia stance against Ukraine than I do about what he did or did not ask in 2017. Just too much ‘Smoke’ around Trump for there not to be a fire causing it, IMHO…
In the initial sales pitch to Hezbollah two years ago, the new line of Apollo pagers seemed precisely suited to the needs of a militia group…
The AR924 pager was slightly bulky but rugged, built to survive battlefield conditions. It boasted a waterproof Taiwanese design and an oversized battery that could operate for months without charging. Best of all, there was no risk that the pagers could ever be tracked by Israel’s intelligence services. Hezbollah’s leaders were so impressed they bought 5,000 of them and began handing them out to mid-level fighters and support personnel in February.
..the pagers’ most sinister feature: a two-step de-encryption procedure that ensured most users would be holding the pager with both hands when it detonated.
Designed by Mossad, assembled in Israel
Thus was born the idea of creating a kind of communications Trojan horse … Hezbollah was looking for hack-proof electronic networks for relaying messages … equipment that Mossad designed and had assembled in Israel.
The first part of the plan, booby-trapped walkie-talkies, began being inserted into Lebanon by Mossad nearly a decade ago, in 2015. The mobile two-way radios contained oversized battery packs, a hidden explosive and a transmission system that gave Israel complete access to Hezbollah communications … For nine years, the Israelis contented themselves with eavesdropping on Hezbollah…

Barry Meislin
…but did you happen to do any research on what Trump in fact DID give to Ukraine?
Not in the 9.26 am comment I was researching an article on. Did mention the Trump–Ukraine scandal but didn’t link to it tho.
Apparently Trump and Obama may have agreed on not sending aid to Ukraine—to a degree, but I didn’t do any real research into that issue…maybe another time. This for now:
“We put up a lot of money. I gave you anti-tank busters that, frankly, President Obama was sending you pillows and sheets,” Trump said.
Trump reversed Obama’s policy; in 2018, the Trump administration approved a plan to sell Ukraine Javelin missiles for $47 million.
Trump also withheld aid when trying to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political rivals. During a July 2019 phone call, Zelenskyy told Trump he was almost ready to buy more Javelins from the U.S. Trump replied by asking for “a favor,” which was to collect dirt on Biden, a potential 2020 presidential race opponent at the time.
Long story short – Trump did sell Ukraine some weapons…then he withheld giving them aid whilst trying to force Ukraine to rat out a political opponent.
Kermit skirts around the facts, Trump gave aid to Ukraine, and FJB and FJB’s son were part and parcel of the corruption of Ukraine, as well as being Trump’s adverseries.
Kermit, try walking and chewing gum.

@Karmi: Long story short – Trump did sell Ukraine some weapons…then he withheld giving them aid whilst trying to force Ukraine to rat out a political opponent.
According to Congressional Research Service, hundreds of millions in aid went to Ukraine in every year of Trump’s presidency.
You’re repeating another false narrative. Assuming you posted in good faith, they fooled you, the way they always do, by withholding facts from their narrative. You’re getting suckered by looking for a Dem narrative to offset a GOP narrative instead of looking for your own facts. At some point you ought to learn the lesson, but maybe you prefer to be fooled.
See Table 3, Selected U.S. Security Assistance to Ukraine, FY2016-FY2024.
FY2017: $247.6 million
FY2018: $290.5 million
FY2019: $285.2 million
FY2020: $504.6 million
You were suckered by a source that only talked about one avenue of Ukraine funding worth $47 million. They left out, and you didn’t bother to look for, any other.
Which is what they wanted. You were a perfectly predictable patsy for their propaganda. Again, assuming you post in good faith.
Is Kermit being suckered or just ginding the harpoon for The Great Orange Whale?
He has a smaller axe that he grinds for republicans.
Re: Chuck Berry / Bee Gees
Here’s one for neo, if she hasn’t already been there — a Rob Squad reaction to Chuck Berry and the Bee Gees live doing a Chuck Berry classic:
Aside from being a great time, I appreciated the Bee Gees’ homage to Chuck Berry. They never upstaged him. It was all about Chuck.
If you know Berry’s story, he is the godfather of rock’n’roll and he had some sore points with white rockers taking over the genre.
As much as Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones loved Berry and wanted to acknowledge him, Berry would barely talk to Richards.
Bee Gees must have really handled Chuck Berry with care. Good on them.
Beautiful.
RIP Chuck Berry (1926-2017)
Berry was a wonderful musician. Also a pervert who put hidden cameras in ladies’ bathrooms. Seemed to have been an onery cuss. A friend of my brother made a pilgrimage to Berry’s place in Missouri to pay homage to him, and Berry basically told him to f*** himself.
Saw Berry in 1970 playing a show with the Stones. He closed his show with [I forget which song], improvising “blue” lyrics. Pretty far out for the time; my friends & I couldn’t believe it.
He must have “duck walked” at that show, although I don’t remember specifically; I was rather high. Saw him do that many times on TV.
BAT CAVE, North Carolina — Residents of a tiny North Carolina town that was almost totally destroyed by Hurricane Helene fending for themselves after FEMA told them that a “road closed” sign is an insurmountable obstacle for the agency to navigate.
“FEMA called me and told me they wanted to inspect my house then called me back to say they couldn’t drive around the ‘road closed’ sign. They weren’t allowed,” local Chelsea Atkins, 38, told The Post.
“You can drive it by car for sure, it’s not that bad, you just have to drive around the ‘road closed sign’. I explained that to them. They said they couldn’t,” she said, recounting her maddening exchange with the embattled federal agency.
Left to fend for themselves, Bat Cave residents banded together — opening the roads and starting the arduous work of cleanup and recovery. Residents told The Post that they don’t need FEMA now — and at this point, they don’t even want the disaster relief agency to come.
…
“The DOT’s been here, and random fire departments, like Kannapolis. They were great. But nobody’s been bringing in supplies except civilians,” she shared.
At this late stage in the recovery effort, Atkins said there are concerns FEMA showing up at this point could do more harm than good.
“It’s been a civilian-run operation since day one. You can’t ask the authorities for help — they’ll say you need to leave,” she said, calling Bat Cave a “country-boy can survive” kind of place.
“We’re handling it. Leave it to us and we’ll get it covered.”
I was looking for something else and came up with this blast from the past.
FEMA is running true to form: it’s deja vu all over again.
The agency should have been closed down years ago, but no bureaucracy once created is ever extinguished, because the staff becomes a vested interest and lobbies for increased power and funding with their donations and votes.
Need I remind anyone that the overwhelming majority of apparatchiks are Democrats, and have been for decades?
But Republicans, I fear, would be just as bad.
Pournelle’s Iron Law of Bureaucracy rules.
Information is sketchy, but it appears local efforts to help are being shut down, roadblocks are all over town, and only the feds and their longtime ally — that’s FEMA and the Red Cross — are “permitted” providers of aid, according to reports.
This has prompted apparent scenes like this, of locals taking matters into their own hands:
…
Seems the government is not helping much, and the need is great.
With a record like that, the government shouldn’t be doing anything to stop local efforts to recover from the disaster. If they can’t figure out quickly how to distinguish local efforts from bad actors, they need to turn this effort over to locals who can. A government that failed to protect the Maui people from fire has no business trying to interfere with their efforts to aid the needy and build themselves back.
Another bookmarked post, from when John Hayward was still writing as Doc Zero.
The situation hasn’t changed much since the Democrats were re-installed in 2020, and again in 2022.
Some voters are wising up and finally connecting the dots, but probably not enough.
See Glenn Reynolds’ “Schrodinger’s Election.”
(h/t huxley on the Kamala thread, link repeated at the bottom).
The malignant legacy of Hurricane Katrina is that Democrats will deliberately abuse their positions in every imaginable manner, inflicting any number of horrors on their constituents, if they think they can profit politically by blaming the damage on Republicans.
As with the Democrat mainstreaming of political violence, this is a trend you can only stop by slamming them hard at the ballot box. Why WOULDN’T Dems from “safe seats” at the heart of one-party political machines think they can get away with abusing their constituents?
We talk about “accountability” all the time, but there is no real accountability in political machines. Punishing individual politicians – which happens all too rarely – isn’t enough when the Party knows it can just drop another faithful apparatchik into the same spot.
Why are Democrats so enamored of criminals and foreign nationals, and so contemptuous of law-abiding American citizens? Easy: Because you LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. They have no reason to fear you. You’re produce to be farmed for money and power, not voters to be respected.
It’s not a coincidence that Democrat Party strongholds tend to be the most dangerous and punishing places for law-abiding citizens to live. Where the Party has absolute power, it will always weaponize incompetence, punish dissent, and create problems it can “solve” to its profit.
The core Democrat ideology is about grievances, exploitation, “social justice,” and redistribution. They have to view the law-abiding and productive as selfish villains to rationalize taking what they have. They have no problem with hurting those people for political gain. If the American people are foolish enough to reward them for this weaponized incompetence in November, then you’ll get more of it, just like you’ll get more political violence. They’ll keep making you hurt as long as you let them blame it on their political enemies. /end
I was looking for this post by Matt Taibbi, because he was on the ground in New Orleans after Katrina, and mentioned this man’s refusal to leave his house because of a rumor about homes being bulldozed.
That may be the source of the same rumor circulating here and on other blogs about NC after Helene, because old internet stories never die — they don’t even fade away.
They just move to another venue.
Matt Taibbi: Because it was an absolutely horrific situation. There were inexcusable failures in terms of repairing the levies. They should have been ready for this kind of situation. When it did happen, there were-
Walter Kirn: And there was a lot of conspiracy theory on the part of the black community about why they hadn’t been maintained.
Matt Taibbi: Right.
Walter Kirn: And there was even a suggestion that this was a deliberate act of negligence that would inevitably result in these neighborhoods being harmed, and that was tolerated by the mainstream press, frankly. Those questions were allowed to be asked.
Matt Taibbi: So one of the things we were doing in Katrina was we were trying to help people get off roofs, or at least Sean [Penn] was, that was his raison d’etre. And we ran into a lot of people who were like, “Yeah, I’m not leaving.” We’d be like, “Dude, the water is on your second floor. How are you going to stay?” And he’s like, “If I leave, they’re going to bulldoze this place.” And there was just this built-in mistrust of everything. There were people who didn’t want to eat the MREs that they were dropping on the houses and stuff like that. Who knows? Right? But most people were very glad for the help.
Walter Kirn: Right.
Matt Taibbi: They went to the Superdome, then they went to the Astrodome in Houston, and there was a response. It took too long, but they eventually did clean up the place. But it’s the lack of sympathy for people who live in the area, which seems to jump out this time around.
Niketas Choniates – I wrote:
Long story short – Trump did sell Ukraine some weapons…then he withheld giving them aid whilst trying to force Ukraine to rat out a political opponent.
Never searched for HOW MUCH aid/loans was given to Ukraine under Trump…you even quoted the same thing, but still falsely assumed what I said. A habit of your, it seems.
In that same comment, I had said earlier:
but I didn’t do any real research into that issue…maybe another time. This for now:
Not doing “any real research” was addressing an earlier comment in the thread, but added here that “maybe another time.” Then, ended with “This for now“.
Perhaps being unable to recover from your anger issues causes you to resort to falsely claiming what I was saying, and border on name calling and insults.
The thread started (October 6, 2024 at 9:26 am) by “research & investigating…” if Trump had asked Putin for advice on aiding Ukraine … since you are unable to follow what I am saying, go back to that point and start over. Had also added links in that search – along with 4 questions to AI – and showed 2-Yes, 1-No, and 1-didn’t do politics.
I then added:
OK…getting to be too long. Maybe this is more DEM throwing out Oct surprises until one sticks.
Maybe, when you get your anger issue under control, try to get one of your ex-students to help you understand what I am actually saying—instead of attempting to ‘Interpret‘ it yourself…
@Karmi: After throwing out “Apparently Trump and Obama may have agreed on not sending aid to Ukraine—to a degree, but I didn’t do any real research into that issue”, you were asked several times by others if you were aware how much aid went to Ukraine under Trump, and you responded with another Dem smear about Trump. But now you know, and everyone knows you know, so I’m sure you won’t be repeating those smears about Trump again, right?
Maybe, when you get your anger issue under control, try to get one of your ex-students to help you understand
Tone trolling and personal attacks won’t improve your credibility. Not repeating Dem smears and conspiracy theories might, eventually. This is teenager stuff you’re doing, Karmi.

It is widely stated, but false, that Constantine established Christianity as the state religion. He simply did not. That wasn’t done until Theodosius, at the end of the century (sort of). All Constantine did was declare toleration, and tried to get them to settle controversies.

Georgia – 401%
North Carolina – 446%
Pennsylvania – 241%
Arizona – 734%
Nevada – 562%
Michigan – 775%
Wisconsin – 467%
She did her rant, I just did mine….sorry.

Coddington Van Vorhees VII” of “The National Topsider”) from 2008:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hSnEMV58F8
Obama’s teleprompter has some demands.

@miguel:But does quantum gravity even exist
Shouldnt there be some basis for a hypothesis
Kate
OK, so CNN is NOW a ‘Reliable’ source…er, OK. 🙂
I spelled it out for y’all HERE (September 29, 2024 at 7:31 am), but can’t connect-the-dots for you.
Here’s the last dot—if it will help:
One month out, Democrats say they are expanding House field

Two, however, were balanced enough IMO to qualify as “reliable” — I didn’t see a big skew to the left (or the right, not that they ever would), although reporters can’t seem to shake their inbuilt biases completely.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/05/politics/trump-returns-to-butler/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc

Came across this article this morning – Trump ‘asked Putin for advice’ about whether the US should help arm Ukraine
OK—started some research & investigating…

Not in the 9.26 am comment I was researching an article on. Did mention the Trump–Ukraine scandal but didn’t link to it tho.
Apparently Trump and Obama may have agreed on not sending aid to Ukraine—to a degree, but I didn’t do any real research into that issue…maybe another time. This for now:
Fact check: Did Trump send Ukraine weapons that Obama and Biden withheld?
Long story short – Trump did sell Ukraine some weapons…then he withheld giving them aid whilst trying to force Ukraine to rat out a political opponent.
Kermit skirts around the facts, Trump gave aid to Ukraine, and FJB and FJB’s son were part and parcel of the corruption of Ukraine, as well as being Trump’s adverseries.

Re: Chuck Berry / Bee Gees
Here’s one for neo, if she hasn’t already been there — a Rob Squad reaction to Chuck Berry and the Bee Gees live doing a Chuck Berry classic:
–“SPEECHLESS!| FIRST TIME HEARING Chuck Berry & The Bee Gees – Reelin’ And Rockin’ REACTION”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwEJj_1luUM
There may be more posts about the FEMA fiasco, but I want to memorialize this one. And yes, that really is the name of the town.

“The Babylon Bee couldn’t even come up with this.”

Another bookmarked post, from when John Hayward was still writing as Doc Zero.
The situation hasn’t changed much since the Democrats were re-installed in 2020, and again in 2022.
Some voters are wising up and finally connecting the dots, but probably not enough.

Niketas Choniates – I wrote:
Never searched for HOW MUCH aid/loans was given to Ukraine under Trump…you even quoted the same thing, but still falsely assumed what I said. A habit of your, it seems.
In that same comment, I had said earlier:
