I hope everyone in the path of the storm … — 6 Comments

  1. 5 foot tidal surge on the east side of Sarasota Bay. No power for the next couple of weeks. My neighbor has a great deal on a used car, if you don’t mind the ocean smell. (Yes you know what he didn’t do). Otherwise nothing. Siesta Key and the rest, lot’s worse.

  2. 12 mins of drone footage from Cedar Key, wrecked by storm surge and wind.

We’re pretty well off further south. Winds were up but never exceeding ~50 mph gusts. Internet service shut down around 12:30 am last night, restored by 8:30ish this morning. At 1:00am the storm surge had crept up the tidal creeks hereabouts to arrive at the curb in the parking lot, with high tide yet to come at 3:00am. Evenso, don’t think the water got over the sidewalk at its high mark, which is roughly three ft lower than Ian’s high water, which made it 2 ft into all the dwellings here, destroying all the vehicles on top of that. So. Not too bad, really.

  3. Posted on the Open thread, sorry:

All clear in central NC from the storm, a few trees down, some local flooding; but western NC has big problems. I saw a video of a large shipping container floating through Asheville, and the dam at Lake Lure is at risk of failure.

  4. Live near Charleston — lost power, internet and cell service for fourteen hours. Lost a tree that actually took out two other trees. But hallelujah! The AC is BACK!

Seriously, my heart goes out to all the people who are suffering from the devastation.
