I just “love” the pundits on FOX saying that the Judge is creating a ready made higher court overruling on the Trump “trial”. What twaddle. It is still a NY court.
if they have andy mccarthy swig of your favorite beverage, but don’t go over,
I think I referenced the incident where one of the World Trade Center plotters, had one over on McCarthy, when he was a junior SDNY
Involved in a little humor…
I went out for breakfast and was wandering the square looking for the cafe.
Stopped a couple and asked for directions & got ’em.
Then he asked me where he could find some pants. He had court in (he looked at watch) nine minutes and all he had was some stretch gym shorts. Judge didn’t care for that and told him no pants – no court.
No used clothes (or new for that matter) place within walking so I asked him his waist size. 36 I wear 39. So I told him I’d swap so he could make court. Don’t care what he was going for, there’s no need for someone to miss court just because he didn’t have long pants.
So… We swapped.
Me: “We better do this quickly. You got drawers?”
Him: “Yes.”
Me: “Good. You take your shorts off first and then you’re a wall. ‘Cause I don’t have any drawers.”
We went behind a structural blind and swapped. Right as I’d dropped the slacks, a woman walked out of a building but as luck would have it turned the opposite direction.
Got the swap done.
Him: “Where can I meet you after court to trade back?”
Me: “No need. I got those at the thrift. Good luck.”
No idea what happened with court.
I then went and had breakfast, cracking up the young woman working counter with the story.
Federal Judge Aileen Cannon on Tuesday rejected special counsel Jack Smith’s request for a gag order against Donald Trump in the classified documents case, saying that prosecutors’ efforts to confer with the defendant was “wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy.”
In a brief order, Cannon slammed prosecutors for not following the court’s rules by failing to meaningfully confer with Trump’s defense lawyers about a potential gag order before making the request.
Rulings highlight how Trump’s classified documents case could have gone differently had it been brought in DC
“Because the filing of the Special Counsel’s Motion did not adhere to these basic requirements, it is due to be denied without prejudice,” Cannon wrote, adding, “it should go without saying that meaningful conferral is not a perfunctory exercise.”
The judge’s order highlights the cumbersome filing process that has repeatedly plagued the case as it inches towards trial.
Yes, the presumption of innocence is cumbersome. That is the whole point of having the Constitution, to stop the railroading of political opponents. The burden of proof is on the government, not the citizen.
Unhappy that the judge in Florida is not siding with the prosecution like the one in New York, NYT tried to do a hit piece on Cannon. It assigned the story to Alan Feuer, a 25-year veteran of its metro desk. He described himself as “a reporter covering extremism and political violence for The New York Times.”
He filed a report that the paper labeled, “Emerging Portrait of Judge in Trump Documents Case: Prepared, Prickly and Slow.
“Judge Aileen Cannon’s handling of court hearings offers insights into how the case accusing Donald Trump of illegally retaining classified material has become bogged down in unresolved issues.”
Well, I am no lawyer — nor is Feuer — but it does seem that this is a complicated case involving evidence that is said to be classified documents. For example, how does one deal in an open trial with evidence that maybe should not be made public? Balancing a defendant’s rights with national security is not easy. She wants to get it right.
NYT wants to get it on.
Feuer wrote:
Judge Cannon has effectively imperiled the future of a criminal prosecution that once seemed the most straightforward of the four Mr. Trump is facing.
She has largely accomplished this by granting a serious hearing to almost every issue — no matter how far-fetched — that Mr. Trump’s lawyers have raised, playing directly into the former president’s strategy of delaying the case from reaching trial….

CNN Defense Analysts have now determined that the Israeli Airstrike on May 26th against a Hamas Compound in Western Rafah, which was believed to have possibly caused an Explosion and Fire which resulted in the Death of between 35-45 Palestinian Refugees, could not have been “Completely Caused” by the Israeli Airstrike due to the Size of the Explosion. Shrapnel and Parts which were Discovered in the Rubble of the Hamas Compound, which was roughly 200 Meters from the UNRWA Refugee Camp, suggest that the Strike was carried out using 2 GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb with 250lb Warheads; these Bombs would have not been nearly Powerful enough to have caused the Explosion at the Camp nor would the have been Large enough to cause any kind of “Splash Damage” to the Camp, which again was over a Kilometer from the Strike Location. This Analysis suggests that what Israeli Defense Officials have so far suggested is likely True, which is that Hamas Munitions which were Hidden roughly Half-Way between the Compound and Camp were Detonated by Shrapnel from the Airstrike, causing the Explosion of multiple Fuel Tanks at the Refugee Camp and the eventual Fire.
Beautiful work by the musicians. If I played an instrument, after watching that episode I would find another pastime.

How is it the comments on your posts are so often COMPLETELY unrelated to the subject?
Odd.
This is an “open thread”, which generally means commenters can talk about whatever they want.
@Nonapod – THIS post is open thread but there’s not a single posting that goes by that doesn’t have unrelated comments. Scroll down to the little duckie Swan Lake – twenty-seven comments, three on topic.
That’s typical, not unusual at all. Many attendees of this blog are political junkies and can’t help themselves.

Have noticed recently that an old source – Jewish Virtual Library – had made some big changes since I used to use it daily. Changes could’ve been made any time during that past 10-15 years, I am guessing. Probably due to the growing Palestinian and Arab influence in research. Main change seems to be the dropping of – ‘Dates regarding biblical figures and events cannot be confirmed’ that used to be noted throughout all their research and articles. I suspect the change was basically forced upon them, but again I am guessing about that.
An even older source seems unchanged – Library of Halexandria, and I am not sure how it has even managed to survive the internet all these years.
Upon entering the rarefied atmosphere of Justice, Order, and Law, it might be wise to take the advice of Tom Robbins, who in his classic novel, Jitterbug Perfume, wrote that the sign over the doorway into Hell read, “Lighten Up.”
The need for this suggestion is due in part to the grotesque manner in which governments of the world have used law and order to deny, distort, and demean virtually any hint of justice. In many respects, the government of the United States of America has led the way. As the increasingly popular bumper sticker on the automobiles of America says, “I love my country, but I fear my government.” Now, more than ever.
(NOTE that this article was last updated on “20 June 2005” 🙂 )
There are two ways of approaching such a comment. One is based on Samuel Adams’ belief that “..it does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds..” If anything is to be done about the current state of affairs in the arenas of Justice, Order, Law, and government — where people fear their government and its laws and order — then this seems to be good advice.
That article leads to many more – think of the Library of Halexandria as an Internet within an Internet.
There are two kinds of law. One is based on Justice. The other is based on control. The predominant form in use today, and which has the greater ancient heritage, is the latter. Basically, what the vast majority of individuals view as law today is a bastardization of the Golden Rule: “Dem wid de gold, makes de rules.” It is the law of control, of raw power, of “might making right”. It is retribution, instead of restoration.
snip .. The Me of the Sumerian civilization includes one of the earliest known forms of law, which was based — curiously enough — on fairness, justice, and equality — as opposed to making it easier for those with the gold to run roughshod over everyone else. Today, this same system of just law is called Common Law or Restorative Justice.
Internet within an Internet – and Links upon Links…
@Karmi:Today, this same system of just law is called Common Law
I don’t think that’s at all how Common Law works. It was based on tradition: “time whereof the memory of man runneth not to the contrary”. To oversimplify, if any living person could remember a different procedure or state of affairs, that procedure or state of affairs could not be part of Common Law. Eventually legally defined as “before the year 1189”.
I can’t think of anything in it that really suggests it’s based on restorative justice. The Common Law was not always just–gavelkind vs primogeniture for instance. But it was predictable. Everyone in principle agreed on what it was and had always had been. Devil was in the details of course.
What entry did they find speculative?

Then the white gets black dots in it, the black dots get bigger and bigger until it all looks like the night sky moving – tiny white dots in black, and then the bubble bursts. It always happens in roughly that order – red and green to start and black and white at the end for sure, and the other stuff in between is pretty much the same too.
