Trump continues his NYC campaign
I have to say, Trump knows how to make lemonade out of those lemons he’s been handed. The latest:
Donald Trump dropped by a New York Fire Department station in midtown Manhattan Thursday to deliver pizzas after spending another day in court for DA Alvin Bragg’s case against the former president for falsifying business records.
The firefighters appeared to be pleased to see him, and in the video you can hear one or more say, “Save us, please save us.”
Trump was born and raised in New York and is really a New Yorker at heart. Although certain people in the city have turned on him, using the court system, and although the city’s voters are overwhelmingly blue, he’s not giving up on his hometown:
At the fire station, Trump reiterated his “love” for New York City.
“We’re going to come in. Number one, you have to stop crime, and we’re going to let the police do their job. They have to be given back their authority. They have to be able to do their job,” Trump said. “And we’re going to come into New York. We’re making a big play for New York, other cities too. But this city, I love this city.”
I don’t think Trump has a chance to take New York City. But I like his spirit. More importantly, can he take the swing states? Polls indicate the answer might be “yes,” but that would depend on voter turnout and the amount of “rigging” that goes on.
What is a good POTUS alternative to Trump? You want Biden? Give me a break!

Someone once said that there hasn’t been an honest election in NYC since the Civil War, ego, Trump won’t win there.
Things went pretty well for Trump yesterday. Keith Davidson, Stormy Daniels lawyer at the time the NDA was executed, admitted that his client was shaking down Trump because he was ruining for POTUS.
He testified that he was anxious to get the NDA and payment done because he believed Trump would lose the election, and his client would then lose her leverage over him.
He also testified that Cohen, Trump’s lawyer at the time, was enraged that Trump hadn’t selected him to be a part of his administration. This sets the stage for understanding Cohen’s motive for revenge against Trump.
Of course, it all hinges on how the jurors see the issues. I can’t see much that is working in Bragg’s favor, but it’s New York.
It’s amazing to me. Trump seems to have grown stronger and more resolved while dealing with this ordeal. It’s as if the battle gives him energy.

It is ridiculous to assert that a separate Southern nation, from TX to NC, could not survive, politically or economically.

I think of MA as the heart of New England, all states today in progressive fantasyland. Maine used to be a rock-ribbed conservative state, but now Trans and other marginal H. sapiens are welcomed there.
My son resides in MA, and social “pressures” have warped his thinking so that he is no longer a rational conservative. As example, he opposes abortion only after 16 weeks, but fails to honor the clarity and truth of human biology.
He was very premature, an abortus in all but name. His first month of life was spent in a newborn ICU. Ironic.

He meant that the Boston Irish, thanks to universal suffrage and demagogues like James Michael Curley, had shoved aside the Brahmins, gained control over the state’s political machinery (including the civil service), and perfected the practice of publicly funded tribal patronage and corruption. Think of Curley as a proto-Obama. A political genius, but an evil one.

Lincoln didn’t start the bloodletting over the “Peculiar Institution” and sectional loyalty, that was a group of violent thugs, fillibusters, and terrorists on both sides. Lincoln didn’t start the Civil War that would consume so many lives, that was South Carolina and its co-conspirators deciding to make the policy and actions of those pro-slavery terrorists state policy, violently rejecting any possibility of negotiation or compensation (something that even President Buchanan viewed as absurd and unconstitutional), and ultimately attacking US Federal targets and the property and lives of others states until eventually Lincoln decided to slap them down.
And moreover, if you understand the Charleston Harbor Crisis, you will see a STAGGERING amount of forbearance by both on-the-spot and national Unionist leaders, whether it was flat out giving up most of the forts to violent South Carolina secessionists without a fight, tolerating widespread looting (including of Federal Arsenals) without a declaration of war, or tolerating AN ARTILLERY BATTERY LITERALLY FIRING ON THE STAR OF THE WEST WHEN IT TRIED TO RUN RESUPPLY TO FORT SUMTER.
We know how most governments of the time would reacted long before the decision by Beauregard to light up Fort Sumter, and it almost certainly would have involved barrages of heavy artillery and blockades. This becomes especially apparent if you look at the actions of the Confederacy’s in-government British, French, and Spanish supporters, such as how the British reacted to a Greek mob trashing one of their citizen’s shops in Athens by scuttling parts of the Greek fleet and instituting a blockade.
And that’s before we get into the Confederate leadership hobbling themselves by attacking States of the Union that remained avowedly neutral (such as Kentucky) out of pure greed, ambition, and a misconceived idea of some manifest destiny or Slavesrauben.
I am not a Lincoln Idolater, and I can and have been quite harsh with him and many of his actions before. But it astounds me how many people blame the war and its damages solely on him while outright ignoring (and thus infantilizing) the Confederate fire eaters that actually started the war, some of whom would continue killing for years after it ended (Jessie James, anyone?).
Forgive me if I don’t see Agrarian Quasi-Socialist Racial Caste Slavery to be a good basis for a society.

Again, Lincoln didn’t start this war. Claiming otherwise is legally and historically illiterate. That “Honor” belongs firmly to the South Carolina Fire eaters and their colleagues in other states who opted to join in a war of aggression on false pretenses.
Let’s ignore the fact that outside of various guerillas, volunteers, or “bushwhackers” or the like who fought on their own agency, it was overwhelmingly the Confederate state governments that decided they would start the war, and decided their citizenry (and slaves) would contribute to that war in various ways, most directly by recruitment and even conscription but also by feeding into the war economy (which is what led to people like Sherman and Sheridan coming with torches and pitchforks and superheating equipment).
Because God Forbid we attribute any blame at all to the Confederate leadership who decided they had no problem depriving Union Troops life and liberty at Fort Sumter (as while the barrage didn’t kill anyone they were obviously willing to accept the possibility it would), or depriving their neighbors from other states (according to their own theory citizens of a neutral foreign country) of property, peace, liberty to do business, and even life, and in some cases such as Kentucky the right to declare neutrality in the war and not be absorbed into the Confederacy. Not unlike how they deprived their own people of freedom to debate the matter as shown by various censorship laws banning the address of the Peculiar Question.
This is one of the things that aggravates me about Confederate Apologists. The desire to simultaneously have one’s cake and eat it too. When talking about Lincoln or States Rights (the same states rights that the Confederate Constitution shot full of holes in order to support racial caste slavery), it is suddenly all pride about the South will Rise Again, and DamnYankees and so on.
But when talking about the causes of the war, or the cost the unjust folly of violent Confederate secession and terrorism caused, or the longer term fallout of things such as tainting the cause of Genuine States Rights with the chimera of Confederate rhetoric, it’s Oh Noes. Mean Lincoln decided to invade us and kill so many of us and dispossess us out of the blue, Please Ignore the South Carolina and related Declarations of Secession and so forth.
It would be darkly amusing and utterly sad to see a supposed movement about self-determination, independence, and the freedom for (some) people in (SOME) given States to choose their destiny try so hard to deny the very agency a generation or two of their leaders seized.
Turns out that basing the core of your society and economy around racialized slavery – in addition to its moral evil – has repercussions from crippling you if you ever lose it.
PS: I don’t see you condemning the mothers, kids, and families that were killed by Pro-Slavery Ruffians in places like Kansas and Missouri because their planter patrons eyed the territory as a good place to expand the plantation system to. I’m at least consistent; I think Abolitionist terrorists like John Brown deserved the noose and firing squad too, and I regard the dispossession or death of those Southern families as tragedies, albeit predictable ones of war.
I also note that the Confederate leadership had no problems applying similar measures in the territories they reached into, such as forced conscription, the kidnapping of other peoples’ slaves and even free black men, and the harrowing of territory. The Union just had greater ability to do it.
The South was already impoverished, especially once you get under the gills of the over-turned and slavery-dependent agricultural sector. It was made worse by Confederate leadership’s decision to try to double and triple down on the system by force of arms to the point where they convinced themselves Lincoln was a radical abolitionist (when in reality he was a Free Soiler on poor terms with radical abolitionists and represented one of the more MODERATE politicians on slavery in the Western World since he favored gradual emancipation), and that this justified ignoring all overtures for negotiation and trying to seize Charleston harbor by force, with predictable results to those of us that have studied 19th century diplomacy.
What was worse is that many of them did not learn the lesson and managed to be even worse than the often hideously corrupt reconstruction governments kept propped up by Federal bayonets, being as a rule not only corrupt (albeit in a somewhat more genial or appealing fashion due to being on the In) but also virulently racist, anti-capitalist, and often anti-industrial. Which helped give us a lot of the tainted political culture we still deal with regarding the Dems, especially when they and the more conventionally leftist and industrial agitators that had generally supported the Union or remained neutral in the Civil War, resulting in horror shows like Wilsonian Progressivism.
(Ironically I often have to defend Wilson on the foreign policy matters given how many people inadvertently downplay German and Communist villainy to attack him, but he was still a damn awful person).
NOT WHEN THAT “SEPARATE NATION” (already economically and technologically backward and in a co-dependency with the Free Soil leaning food breadbaskets of the South and the industrial manufactories and commerce centers of the North) DECIDES TO RESPOND TO ANY DISPUTE OVER JURISIDCTION AND FORT OWNERSHIP BY LOBBING ARTILLERY AT A NATION LARGER AND BETTER EQUIPPED FOR WAR THAN IT.
And not when it systematically gutted many of the very mechanisms the Founders put in place to deal with internal disputes and policy disagreements on the altar of Maximum Slavery.
We’ll all need it, especially given the corruption in places in your midst like Atlanta and Austin (oh, I’m sorry? Are you ignoring that? Abbott and Kemp are not DeSantis; we can only wish the entire Deep South is now Florida. But it’s not). And it’s worth remembering how many of the problems with the Progressive North have their ties to the old Confederate Cause.

For all of our differences, you have my sympathies there. The Left isn’t breeding at replacement rates so they’re trying to proselytize among the children, and as someone who hopes to have a family one day I can only imagine how devastating that is. Here is hoping he will snap out of it, and I am sure you will do your best.
