Hamas rejects proposed deal for the Israeli hostages — 28 Comments

  1. Kate:

I’m always puzzled when people say they believe that. To me, it doesn’t make sense that they’re all dead. Some are, of course. But I don’t see why a significant number wouldn’t be being kept alive because of their enormous value.

I also believe that Israel keeps negotiating in part in order to maximize the chances that a significant number of hostages remain alive. As soon as the terrorists believe that there is no chance of an exchange, the hostages will be killed – possibly publicly in order to increase the pressure on Israel.

For now, the hostages are very valuable.

  2. Neo, I hope you are right and I’m wrong. Hamas keeps getting increasingly generous deal proposals for hostage release and then declining the deals. I have reached the point of thinking that they haven’t got the live bargaining chips any more.

  3. Hamas sees that the Bidenettes are on their side, taking Hamas’ part against the Jews, so Hamas need only stall for survival, hostages still in hand. “Don’t go into Rafah!” chant the Bidenettes, “Don’t you dare go, IDF!” Hamas sees the game. The Bidenettes flatly encourage them.

  4. Do you ever get the impression that the only solution is a one-state solution?

Empty the Gaza strip and the West Bank and continue with whatever policy allows Israeli Arabs to peacefully co-exist within the nation of Israel.

    I do.

  5. Well where are they why isnt their location known if they are not i. Rafah are they in the sinai which is technically egyptian territory

  6. Now a former unwra officer will head the red cross krafenbuhl he eas previously in charge of operations for the red cross

  7. “Netanyahu seems to have caved to the pressure, because in the end 280 of the prisoners released were serving life sentences for being involved in lethal terrorist attacks on Israelis.” [my emboldened emphasis]

The purpose of a terrorist attack is to instill a feeling of terror in the population being attacked. A lethal attack is one in which there were victims who lost their lives.
The unilateral decision to unjustly take another life, in effect denies the victim’s right to life. Conversely, inherent to that decision is a voluntary forfeiture of a claim by the perpetrator(s) to still have a right to life.

Israel must honor the perpetrator’s decision and after a fair trial, immediately execute the terrorist in an ‘unclean’ manner. No ‘paradise’ for terrorists.

  8. On October 8, I said to myself: “Israel must never negotiate for these hostages.” The fundamental lack of seriousness represented by the Shalit settlement must never return. Israel should have considered the hostages war casualties from that moment.

Looked at another way: If Israel’s goal is truly to destroy the hostage-takers, how can they expect them (Hamas) to negotiate in earnest? For Hamas, diplomacy is war carried on by other means.

  9. The Biden administration’s betrayal of Israel is one of the absolute low points in American political history.

  10. Israel used to know that bartering for hostages was not a good ideal.

If they are going to continue to barter for hostages – then they need to immediately install the Death Penalty for a host of crimes. Yes, the world will whine, but how much louder can it whine than it is already doing?

Number of Palestinians jailed/imprisoned runs from about 7,000 to 10,000. Pull the children out of the Death Penalty sentences (for now), but make sure you have around 4,000 Palestinians sentenced to death, and pending sentences for the rest.

If an Israeli is taken hostage, then you carry out the Death Penalty on 10 Palestinians. Then start bartering for that 1 Israeli—say, if that Israeli isn’t released in a week, then 10-20 Death Penalty sentences will be carried out on incarcerated Palestinians.

Obviously I don’t know the correct solution, but just as obviously Israel doesn’t either. Israel needs to put the ‘Fear of God’ back into the radical Islamic world – or face…face…face…

  11. I go mostly with Kate. But Neo has a good argument, but not good enough. I would hope that Israel is getting some good intl from the Terrorist that they captured at the Hospital.

  12. Hopefully there are demands for proof of life of the hostages being made that we don’t hear about. Otherwise I don’t see how Israeli negotiators can seriously continue negotiations.

Boxspeed on March 26, 2024 at 8:31 pm: “Israel should have considered the hostages war casualties from that moment.” I agree with that approach to weaken the Hamas position. But as with Neo, I don’t know any of the people being held or their families, etc.

Karmi: I was thinking along the same lines. But if Islamic believers really prefer death via martyrdom, then they do not have a Fear of God, but a fear that they will displease their god by not pursuing violent terrorist jihad. Perhaps GB’s approach with bullets rubbed in pork fat is as viable a fear producer as any other.
A lot of nonsense over obtaining 72 sweet grapes!!

Thinking about all of this, I recall George HW Bush’s Desert Storm admonition that “This aggression will not stand!” And then I marvel at the blindness of so many to think that the Jews are the first, last, and only group the Islamic jihadi alligator will eat.

Do you ever get the impression that the only solution is a one-state solution?…
    I do.

Palestinians are overwhelmingly in favor of a one-state solution: a Judenrein solution. AWRAD: Public Opinion Poll – Gaza War 2023 – Tables of Results November 14, 2023.

Table 33: Do you support the solution of establishing one state or two states in the following formats:
Two-state solution for two peoples 17%
A Palestinian state from the river to the sea 75%
One state solution for two peoples 5%

Since the Palestinians reject the choice of a “One state solution for two peoples,”, the logical conclusion is that “A Palestinian state from the river to the sea,” the overwhelming choice of 75%, is projected to be Judenrein.

    Das

Empty the Gaza strip and the West Bank and continue with whatever policy allows Israeli Arabs to peacefully co-exist within the nation of Israel.

Israelis have shown for the last 75 years that they can coexist with Arabs within a Jewish state. The Palestinians have shown they have no desire whatsoever to coexist with Jews. Hamas has certainly shown that coexistence is not in their long range plans.

  14. Boxspeed:
A significant sector or the Israeli public – probably a majority – agrees with the harder line you propose.

Unfortunately the media and judiciary – and echelons of the army – are in the hands of Leftists who have repeatedly blocked death penalties, and who shamelessly sow despair and discord – during the Shalit affair, and now. They can still hamstring public discourse.

And like the Shalit case, here too the hostages are the “correct” sort of Left-leaning people… So the elites will not throw them down the memory hole as was done for countless other terror victims who were dismissed as “sacrifices for peace” – or in the case of settlers, blamed for their own deaths.

So this is another facet of the ongoing struggle between the center-right, proudly Jewish Israeli mainstream and the militantly secular Leftie elite that clings to power and utopian dreams.

Almost every difference of opinion on the Israeli side can be traced back to these fundamental differences of identity and vision.

  15. Iran Update, March 26, 2024

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei emphasized the importance of using information operations, especially in the context of the Israel-Hamas war, on March 26. Khamenei asserted that influencing the information space and using it against adversaries can be just as effective as military strength during a meeting with Iranian poets in Tehran. Khamenei further stated that all “war is a media war” and that whichever actor has greater media influence will achieve their goals. Khamenei especially praised Palestinian militias’ media efforts in shaping public attitudes and narratives in the Muslim world during his meeting with Haniyeh. Khamenei boasted that Palestinian militias’ media outlets have outperformed the Israeli media throughout the Israel-Hamas war. This emphasis on achieving informational effects to win wars is not entirely new; Khamenei has long stressed the need for Iran to fight a “soft war” against its adversaries. This soft war concept involves the use of information operations and psychological warfare to influence public perceptions. Khamenei’s recent statements are, nevertheless, significant, as they are consistent CTP-ISW’s assessment that the Iranian regime is trying to exploit the Israel-Hamas war to try to isolate Israel in the Middle East.

At this point, it certainly seems that Iran has Israel right where they want them.

  16. At this point, it certainly seems that Iran has Israel right where they want them.
    ==
Israel is in the process of liquidating their minion force in Gaza. I don’t think that’s what Khameini wants unless he’s senile.

  17. Most of them are dead and those still alive are so traumatized that they are the “living dead”.

  18. Unfortunately Hamas realizes that the “world community” is on their side and all the pressure to cease military operations is being directed at Israel.

Though it really should not surprise anybody, Joke Bidet (or is it his puppet masters?) and the demonkrats are also very lukewarm – if not outright hostile- about supporting Israel.

There can be no doubt that Senator Chucky Schumer’s speech calling for Israel to cease military operations and for Netanyahu to step down, was orchestrated by Bidet’s puppet masters (who, more than likely , are directed by Obama.)

Recall that Obama detested Netanyahu and openly snubbed him when the latter visited the White House. Also recall that Obama is good pals with the vociferous anti-Semites, Rev. Wright of Chicago and Louis Farrakhan.

To top it all off, Obama / Bidet just can’t stop seeking ways to provide billions of $$$$ to Iran. One must assume the Obama/Bidet desire to see Iran take on a larger role in the mid-east, which, of course, includes neutering Israel.
Honestly, Obama/Biden and the demonkrats would be privately (OK, maybe not privately) rejoicing if Iran dropped a couple of nuclear missiles on Israel.

Hamas will just wait it out hoping that Israel succumbs to the pressure to back off.

  19. To Kate and neo’s points – I can see merit in both arguments. An added consideration is that Palestinians regularly turn down what seem to be very favorable offers from Israel. I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that Hamas is turning down what seem to be favorable offers.

  20. Aside from some of the hostages no longer being alive, there probably are others Hamas doesn’t want to release because of the treatment they have received.

  21. John Tyler “includes neutering Israel”

And murdering Jews. Any Jew who votes Democrat should just cut out the middleman, point a loaded gun to their head and pull the trigger.

  22. There are 5 Americans still held hostage by Hamas.

Does our news media speak of them? Mention their names? Ages? Demand to know their condition, health, whether they are starving, or being sexually abused?

    No?

How come, one might wonder? But one won’t wonder for long.

  23. Thanks SoP for that fascinating and most relevant John Quincy Adams link…
