  1. but no mean tweets,

of course there is the backstory of the drone that was never recovered in the iranian desert, the drone pilot, nurges witt who defected the next year in 2013, the contingent was likely supporting the anti assad militia, who defected to islamic state and the army of conquest, as soon as the checks cleared, of course we have let an Azeri lslamic cleric, Movsum Samsemov, into the country through the Arizona sector, well that can’t possibly go wrong

  2. in coral gables which is the residential part of miami, they had a classical radio station WTMI, which played on the speakers at the local book store,

  3. People are so sheltered they have no concept of just how powerful nature’s forces are.

I had a friend from Turkey who was over during severe weather. Tornado forecasts on TV. “I want to see one.” “No.” “Why?”

I pulled up the tornado that ripped through Wichita Falls Kansas then a horsewhip tornado That Wichita Falls tornado was almost a 1/4 mile across.

“What do you do during earthquakes in Turkey?”
    “Brace yourself in a doorway.”
“Here we dive into a cellar for a tornado.”

At least he could claim ignorance, not stupidity.

  4. thats because we foolishly have come to the notion, that we master nature, not the other way around,

  5. Unprecedented.
    But of course.
    “Dissolving Trump’s Business Empire, as State Judge Threatens, Would Be Unprecedented Under New York’s Decades-Old Fraud Law;
“The former president’s case stands apart in a significant way: It’s the only big business in New York history to be threatened with a shutdown without a showing of obvious victims and major losses.”—

    Trump must be destroyed.
Just like the country of which he was president.

  6. they want to drive everyone out of business,

mr ackman, you might want to check your six,

  7. Featured in the new meme video Clawback, starring Russell Brand and Tucker Carlson: mysterious J6 pipe bombs and the mysterious police response when notified of them, the late Gonzalo Lira, Texas and the Guarantee Clause (Article IV, Section 4).

Speaking of Texas, the state flag bears a striking similarity to that of the Republic of Texas. Matter of fact, they’re identical.

I wonder who the Biden Administration thinks they are talking to when ordering them not to defend themselves from a foreign invasion. A number of states are wondering as well.

  8. BTW Barry, Wikipedia calls ZeroHedge “far-right”. Gee, what do they mean by that? If you hover over the “far-right” label on the ZeroHedge page, up pops a photo of guys marching with Confederate and Nazi flags.

I still use Wikipedia, but with extreme (they’d call it “far-right”) caution.

  9. Would appear that “Biden” is angling towards provoking that civil war he so desperately wants (and needs)…
(Or maybe the Mexican president and/or cartels politely asked “Biden” to pretty-please give Texas back to Meheeco…you know, right a historical wrong, at least as far as Mexico’s concerned; but also to show that “Biden” is really a good, decent guy and stands up for the poor and the oppressed (that’s why he’s made fentanyl and tranq so available—“Biden” wants to REALLY help not only all those whose lives are totally miserable but those whose lives aren’t…or aren’t yet…)

And in other news, I KNOW there are many out there who are waiting with bated breath for the LATEST news on “transitory inflation”….
    Well, here goes….
“Beware: Yellen’s Treasury Expected to Borrow $1 Trillion Monday—

Leave it to the Wise Owlita, that’s what I always says…

  10. I think of her as a dark elf, she has risen upward from Harvard economics department to the Fed now to Treasury,

  11. Not that anyone should take my word for it, but ZH is pretty much all over the place, if perhaps mostly libertarian with a pretty strong contrarian streak WRT to government, particularly “Biden”‘s.
I find the economic stuff fascinating…though I really don’t understand most of it….

There IS the odd link to “genuine” conspiracy theorists who seem to like to see their name in print. OTOH, “Biden” has made conspiracy theory a veritable art form… (sigh…)
The comments have a tendency to reek (but reading them may well be good practice for suspending one’s inclination towards righteous indignation… perhaps.)

Anyway, they probably should change their banner head to “Caveat Emptor”—but most of the other media should likewise change THEIRS to “Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here” (which is far, far more honest than “All the news that’s fit to print”).

  12. Fortunately (I suppose one COULD conclude), Harvard has not lost its sense of humor…which can only be for the good—Um, hold on! Don’t quote me on that just yet….

    –Oligonicella

Most people that live on the coast know “never turn your back to the ocean”.

    –Chases Eagles

    Quite.

I remember stories of the tsnunami which hit Thailand in 2004. Before a tsunami arrives, it sucks up a huge amount of water, causing the tide to suddenly recede. Many people at those beaches, curious at the spectacle, wandered out onto the newly uncovered beach. Things did not go well for them.

However, there was a feel-good story amidst the tragedies. Tilly Smith, a 10 year-old girl…
    ___________________________________________

Smith learned about tsunamis in a geography lesson two weeks before the tsunami from her teacher Andrew Kearney at Danes Hill School. While she and her family were walking on Mai Khao Beach, she recognised the signs of a tsunami she had been taught, and alerted her parents. “The water was really, really frothy,” Smith said. “It wasn’t calm and it wasn’t going in and then out. It was just coming in and in and in.”

Initially, not seeing any obvious sign of a large wave on the horizon, her parents didn’t believe her assertion that a tsunami was coming, but Smith persisted, stating curtly: “I’m going. I’m definitely going. There is definitely going to be a tsunami”. Her father, Colin, sensing the urgency in his daughter’s voice, heeded Tilly’s warning. He managed to convince a security guard that a tsunami was inbound: “‘Look, you probably think I’m absolutely bonkers, but my daughter’s completely convinced there’s gonna be a tsunami.”

Tilly Smith recounted that, by coincidence, an English-speaking Japanese man was nearby and heard her mention the Japanese word “tsunami”, bolstering her claim by saying: “Yeah, there’s been an earthquake in Sumatra; I think your daughter’s right.” The beach was evacuated to the second storey of a nearby hotel before the 9-metre (30 ft) tsunami reached the shore,[13] with patrons narrowly avoiding the tsunami by seconds; Tilly’s mother, one of the last to seek refuge, said: “I ran, and then I thought I was going to die.”[14]

Ultimately, Mai Khao Beach was one of the few beaches on the island with no reported fatalities, with only a few minor injuries recorded. Colin added, “It was later when we sort of went through what happened we thought how lucky we were, ’cause if she hadn’t told us, we would have just kept on walking,” he said. “I’m convinced we would have died, absolutely convinced.”

  14. “NY Post breaks shocking story on Michelle Obama’s plan to take Biden’s place in 2024”

“According to an article written by New York columnist Cindy Adams, “In the summer of 2022, Michelle held a meeting in New York City with major hedge fund CEOs and told them, ‘I am running, and I am asking for your support.”

“The article went on to say that “there is a plan to have Biden announce in May that he is not running and have the former first lady take the nomination without a primary vote during the Democratic National Convention in August.”

I don’t think that she really wants it but I think she’s been persuaded that she has to do it… for the greater good.

  15. Coalition states with lots of guns per capita:

    1. Montana (66.4% of adults)
    2. Wyoming (66% of adults)
    3. Alaska (64.5% of adults)
    4. Idaho (60.1% of adults)
    5. WV (58.5% of adults)
    6. AR (57.2% of adults)
    7. MS (56.3% of adults)
    8. AL (55.2% of adults)
    9. SD (55.1% of adults)
    10. ND (55% of adults)

    Not to mention… TEXAS!

  16. Geoffrey Britain:

Please see this. Cindy Adams is the NY Post’s 93-year-old gossip columnist. I’ve not seen any corroboration of her story on Michelle.

  17. And Texas?
12.8 guns on record for every 1,000 residents. That’s 337,309 firearms among 26,448,193 people. In fact, the actual numbers are probably higher because Texans are not required by law to register their firearms. As such, the ATF can only count those who seek background checks.

    “Probably higher” – ya think?

  18. On 3/11/2011 we were staying at a beach front condo on Kauai. After returning from eating out at a nearby restaurant, we flipped on the TV to catch the news.

The news was all about the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami. It was also advising all resident of the Hawaiian Islands to seek high ground, as the tsunami, if there was one was expected to arrive sometime between 3 and 6 am. with possibly monstrous waves.

We threw some clothes and our dop kits in a bag and drove our car to a local high school, which was about five hundred feet above sea level. The local school district officials opened the school restrooms to refugees who were parked in the parking lot. Water and toilets, very considerate and convenient.

We parked facing the ocean and got a talk radio show on the car radio. The “talk” was all about the threatened tsunami. So, we passed the night waiting for the “big one.” Which, thank goodness, didn’t appear. At about 5am a rise in the tide of about three feet occurred. The tsunami warning was canceled, and we all headed back to our digs.

That morning, we met a young Japanese couple at McDonalds where we were eating breakfast. He spoke fluent English and told us he had been advised by his company to stay in Hawaii for at least three weeks before trying to get home. Things were in chaos and transportation was a problem. It was a mixed bag for them. They were anxious to get home and help their parents, who had damage to their homes but were safe. On the other hand, another three weeks in Hawaii was not the worst thing in the world.

A very nice young couple. We didn’t envy them having to go home to Japan, even after another three weeks in Hawaii.

  19. Background checks don’t count firearms. They count background checks. 1 gun or 1000. You can buy a whole collection of guns with one background check. There used to be a guy down in Olympia that sold 2, 3, 10, 20, 50 and 100 packs of stripped AR-15 lowers. 100 lowers, one background check.

  20. In San Francisco along the so-called Great Highway — the four-lane road paralleling the beach — there are occasional signs indicating “Tsunami Evacuation Route.”

Which always seemed a bit silly, since that area of SF is a grid and all roads heading east — away from the ocean — are pretty much the same. If a tsunami were coming, it’s a no-brainer.

Just head east, like a bat out of hell, for Twin Peaks, which are hard to miss.

  21. @ Barry > most of the other media should likewise change THEIRS to “Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here” (which is far, far more honest than “All the news that’s fit to print”).>

The real thing is on a poster in the NYT staff room:
“All the news that’s printed to fit the narrative.”

Well, at least the Washington Post’s banner head tells the truth:
    “Democracy dies in darkness.”

They are providing all the darkness they can scrape together.

  22. @ huxley “If a tsunami were coming, it’s a no-brainer.”

That’s why they need signs in California now.

  23. Barry linked a post to Liberty Unyielding in the Omar comments, and this was in their sidebar.
    Cool!

This was the best review, naturellement.

“This is part of a series on French author Pierre Boulle.”
Teaser: “Garden on the Moon is a unique tale in that it begins as fictionalized history and then turns into, what was for Boulle, speculative fiction but what is, for us now in 2022, alternative history. I know–it’s a bit confusing. … Nonetheless, the race to the moon was real in the early Cold War era and it was anyone’s guess who would get there first (the Americans? the Russians? another country?). So what that Boulle’s guess didn’t turn out to be the right one? I actually think he was counting on it….Sometimes Boulle drops us in the minds of Russian scientists, sometimes in that of the Japanese aerospace engineer Dr. Kanashima. In the vein of all good unexpected endings, it is the scientist we are least likely to expect who stuns the world and reaches the moon first–all because he came up with a radical solution to the decades-old problem of how to return the astronauts from the moon to Earth.”

  24. “…for the greater good…”

    The Democratic Party’s M.O. “to a T”…
    AKA “Fundamental Transformation”(TM).

(It’s the reason why things are going so swimmingly…in every sphere….)

    Recipe:
    1. REPEAT NON-STOP the lies that your policies are a grand success, that you’re going great guns, that you’re succeeding like no one has before.
    2. MAKE SURE you have some Emanuel Goldmanesque target to blame when the actual TRUTH about your policies threatens to become obvious and overwhelming.
    3. MAKE DOUBLE-EXTRA-SUPER SURE that the Media’s on your side.
    4. Wash, rinse, repeat…FOREVER (preferably with your boot on your scapegoats’ faces…)!

  25. RE: After several years of trying to avoid it, Evergrande, China’s largest real estate developer, was finally ordered into bankruptcy.

This is a major liquidation, and a sledge hammer blow to the Chinese economy–because 30% of China’s GDP is reportedly produced by their real estate sector, and a reported 70% of individual’s assets are invested in real estate–which it’s likely the ruling CCP would want to avoid.

Funny, how the news is reported, and the devil is in the details.

There are lots of stories about this major development, but I noticed that many of these stories do not report the whole story, and do not emphasize certain key facts.

First, that this ruling was by a Hong Kong court–a court ruling which, one would think, would have limited effect unless OK’d by the Communist government of mainland China.

Second, that, according to some reports, such a liquidation order would apparently have to be accepted by each province in which Evergrande–which currently has something like 3,400 projects completed or in progress throughout China–has property which could be seized by creditors.

So this “bankruptcy” order may be far less of a bombshell than some reporting made it out to be.
