On the alliance between the Left and the jihadi terrorists
The virulent anti-Israel protests across America and Europe throw a glaring light on the bizarre alliance between left-wing activists and militant Muslims. That odd combination has been the bedrock of political activism at universities and in the streets for years. It began in universities, where it now dominates political discourse, threatens Jewish students, and intimidates anyone brave enough to voice their dissent. We can now see how it has spread far beyond the campus.
What makes the alliance so strange are the deep-seated differences between leftists and Muslim fundamentalists over core beliefs.
Lipson goes on to list many differences, such as – just to take one example – their attitudes towards homosexuality. Then he explains:
They deal with differences very simply: They never mention them when they act jointly, primarily against Israel and its supporters across the world. They have joined together to form a more powerful coalition against shared enemies. They would destroy that partnership by raising issues where they differ.
Far better to focus on their agreement, which goes beyond hating Israel to claim Western capitalism has oppressed, degraded, and ruined the world. Since the U.S. is now the world’s greatest power, it is tagged as the main source of that malignancy, at home and abroad. As they see it, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America are poor because they have been oppressed by capitalist nations and their corporations. …
Both groups are fundamentally opposed to the forbearance of individual differences, including very different views and goals, that are essential to Western constitutional democracies.
I don’t disagree, but my emphasis would be quite different. I would say their most fundamental similarity is the principle that Humpty Dumpty espoused: ““The question is who is to be master – that’s all.” Both philosophies share the desire to control human thought, minds, and activities, and the more total the control the better. If it must be done through cruelty and force, so be it. They merely differ on what they want to control and how they want people to think. And ultimately they lock horns.
It’s an old old old story. Anyone who studies history should remember Iran in 1979, when the Left and the Ayatollahs joined forces to overthrow the hated Shah, who turned out to have been a much better ruler than either of them. Their alliance was one of the things that puzzled me deeply at the time, but later I felt I understood. The Left thought it was using the religious fundamentalists as a means to an end, and the end was that they would be master. But Ayatollah Khomeini knew he would get the last laugh and had no hesitation to murder them – or anyone else – if need be. His ascension to power in Iran was almost immediately followed by a bloodbath.
It’s still the same old story, on a larger world stage. The Left in the West doesn’t seem to understand the nature of what it’s up against. Recent horrific events in Israel have acted to peel away a few people on the Left who seem both outraged and surprised at their fellow leftists who continue to support Hamas and the Palestinians. They should not have been surprised.
There isn’t anything complicated about this- Leftists look around and see a billion Muslims that can be potentially imported to produce new voters, which is about 2 magnitudes higher than the numbers of Jews that can become new voters.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, when he was mayor of Istanbul before becoming president of Turkey, described the strategy: “Democracy is like a tram. You ride it until you arrive at your destination, then you step off.”
The best recent example in the US is Hamtramck, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. The town prided itself on being progressive, and embraced the diversity of the Muslim community. The people of the town were pleased when Muslims were elected to the town council — they had indeed become co-equal citizens. But once the Muslims attained a majority on the council, they voted to ban the Pride flag on public property.
It seems in Europe that Muslims and transgenders are more important than the welfare of normal Western women and children .

Doc Zero (John Hayward) reminds us that the Leftist support for Hamas is following a long-established Communist playbook in the West.

However, although conservatives are with the Muslims on (parts of) the Pride issue, don’t make the mistake of thinking they are allies on every issue, that being the mistake made by the Democrats (the leftist leaders know better, they are more adept at hiding their agendas).

Differences over core beliefs?
Ahhhh, but not THE core belief.
Leftists seem to believe that, once they’ve overthrown the Evil Old Order, they will be able to suppress the Islamists. They may be wrong.
See also this Ayn Rand Institute lecture by Nikos Sotirakopoulos:
The Left’s Long War on Israel
Why do they dislike Israel so much, despite seemingly compelling reasons to celebrate it? Per Sotirakopoulos, envy of its success as a mostly capitalist economy – similar to the reason for “the oldest hatred”.
Thinking back to those protesting Iranians on US campuses in the Seventies, I wonder how many were leftists, and how many were just secular liberals. I’m betting none of them expected rule by the mullahs, though.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, when he was mayor of Istanbul before becoming president of Turkey, described the strategy: “Democracy is like a tram. You ride it until you arrive at your destination, then you step off.”
How different is he from Western governing elites? Whether it’s Biden or the EU, they get off the democracy tram when they take office, and then the “defense of democracy” just becomes about keeping themselves in power.
Probably nobody knows the Left better than David Horowitz. His 1997 autobiography Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey is among the few most memorable books I’ve read. Here’s what I consider the book’s highlight among highlights (page 397):
I pointed out that socialists had contrived to demonstrate by bloody example what everyone else already knew: Equality and freedom are inherently in conflict. This was really all that socialist efforts had shown, over the dead bodies of millions of people. In talent, intelligence, and physical attributes, individuals were by nature different and unequal; consequently, the attempt to make them equal could only be achieved by restricting — ultimately eliminating — their individual freedom. For the same reason, economic redistribution could be carried out only by force. Socialism was theft.
Socialism could not even achieve the general welfare that its adherents promised. Socialist efforts to create economic equality invariably led, in practice, to the imposition of poverty on society as a whole, because socialism destroyed the incentives to produce. There were entire socialist libraries devoted to the confiscation and division of existing wealth, but not a single article on how people were motivated to create wealth. Socialists did not know how to make a society work. That was the lesson of the Communist debacle, which the Left had refused to learn.
In the final analysis, social injustice was rooted in humanity’s flaws. There had been social institutions, like slavery and segregation, that were wicked and unjust, and needed to be abolished. But in America’s democracy, social injustices — and other evils which leftists decried — were caused primarily by humanity itself. The problem of controlling humanity’s dark side was what necessitated institutions of constraint —- the economic market and the democratic state. There was no exit from the dilemmas of history.
It was this perspective — conservative in its essence — that had inspired the creators of the American republic. In the Federalist Papers, Madison had defended the American idea of liberty by means of legal checks and balances as a design to thwart the leveling agendas of the Left — “a rage for paper money, for an abolition of debts, for an equal division of property, or for any other improper or wicked project.” The conservatism I had arrived at could be expressed in a single patriotic idea: The revolutionary failures of the Twentieth Century had demonstrated the wisdom of the American founding, and validated its tenets: private property, individual rights, and a limited state. Becoming a conservative turned out, ultimately, to be a way of coming home.

Bullseye!
As for which of the two would win, the Islamist base welcomes death… Whereas the leftist snowflake base thinks nothing is worth dying for…
Thus Islam is likely to come out ahead in that fight.
Only to have to then face the ChiComs… who possess the military technology of the industrialized West along with the ruthlessness of the Islamists…
In such a scenario, the Chicoms would not hesitate to turn Middle Eastern trouble spots into glass parking lots.
}}} Bullseye!
Yup and Yup. The Left acts, as usual, with no comprehension of the possible secondary outcomes of their actions… Even when they’ve got examples galore, of which AesopFan’s example is but one. Whenever Islam gets the majority in a democracy, the first thing they throw out is the democracy. Note Iraq’s single election. Note the “Arab Spring” of 2011. Note… ad nauseum.
They will be among the first into Islam’s equivalent of boxcars. Which will probably be a wall with a bunch of jihadi standing in front of it with AKs and ARs.
They’re a lot less skittish about killing people than the Nazis were. :-S They won’t be hiding it away in special camps. As Neo has commented, “they revel in it”.
}}} They may be wrong.
“May be”?? LOLZ.

EVEN THE REPUBLICAN SQUISHES ARE BAILING ON THEM: Huntsman family, longtime Penn supporters, will halt donations to ‘unrecognizable’ University. “In an email to Magill obtained by The Daily Pennsylvanian, Huntsman — a former University trustee, governor of Utah, and United States ambassador — said that the Huntsman Foundation will ‘close its checkbook’ on future donations to Penn. Huntsman, whose family has donated tens of millions to Penn over the course of three generations, wrote that the University had become ‘almost unrecognizable’ due to administrators’ response to antisemitism.”

PS these ignorant opinionated brain (if they have one) washed crybullies pretending to be students have been coddled and pandered to so long they can’t even imagine that anyone would object to their tantrums.
Anyone on campus who disagreed with them is long-gone or silenced.
Echo chambers are not good environments for dealing with reality.
PPS Instapundit has a long list of links to posts about the Hamas attacks and the resultant fall-out (it’s gone beyond back-lash).
The “Good the Bad and the Ugly” final gun fight is a great parable about life. Of the three gunmen, Clint was the best prepared mentally and physically for the final showdown. The lesson is clear:
Peace through strength and the will to use it.
David Horowitz – “The revolutionary failures of the Twentieth Century had demonstrated the wisdom of the American founding, and validated its tenets: private property, individual rights, and a limited state.”
Just so. Our schools need to get back to teaching that.
I get the fact that both the Marxists and the Islamists hate Western Civilization. Both of them envy the success of the Jews and the U.S.
Both of them dislike our conservative culture but for different reasons. For the left, we are too religious. For the Islamists we’re not the right religion.
Both share the idea that their particular political and social ideas are superior, and that all non-believers/deniers should be forced to comply with their ideas. Both of them rely a lot on propaganda and brain washing.
Once they’ve gotten rid of Western Civilization, they will find out how different they are and how they cannot co-exist.
The trick is for the West to be prepared to face them down (ala Clint Eastwood) and give them no choice – either co-exist or cease to exist. With the Dems running our government there’s fat chance of that. 🙁
