The amazing astounding Thomas Sowell has come out with a new book at 93
[Hat tip: commenter “T J.”]
When I first discovered the writing of Thomas Sowell, about a year into what ultimately became my political change, I experienced a tremendous sense of admiration and relief. Admiration because his writing was so clear and so intelligent, and relief because it made more sense than anything political I’d ever read.
I’ve watched many Sowell interviews over the years, and the guy is similarly clear and intelligent when speaking. He’s also afraid of no one and is never intimidated. I imagine he’s made plenty of enemies over the years, but I doubt any of them can outwit him. I’ve read his autobiography, too, and his life story is as interesting as one might think.
No one lasts forever, and Sowell has reached the venerable age of 93. But guess what? He’s come out with a new book, Social Justice Fallacies. I haven’t read it but I think I can recommend it without reservation.
And here he is at 93, being interviewed about it. I’ve only watched a couple of minutes, but he looks and sounds fantastic:
NOTE: Although Sowell’s been on the right for a long long time, he’s actually a political changer himself, having been a Marxist in his early years.
Probably worth ordering sight unseen.
Sowell has been a bright star to navigate by for these last 25 years. I first heard of him from Rush Limbaugh and then read some of his books.
What’s interesting to me is that he has data to show the truth of his assertions about cultural issues. I have intuited many of his conclusions, but finding data to back them up is something I’m not trained in, or enthusiastic about. (Lazy, and I have other interests. :-))
He seems to be doing very well health wise. There’s certainly nothing wrong with his mind. Good for him.
I’ll be buying this book because it will provide me with data points to use in arguments about our culture and politics. And I will undoubtedly learn much that I don’t know.
Probably? PROBABLY?!?!?!?!?!
JK 😉
The man is a national treasure, for the most part buried by media who desperately don’t want him to be seen or heard.
(I’ve been a fan of his since he published “The Vision of the Anointed”, a book that is now around three decades old.)
Dr. Sowell is not only extraordinary intelligent, he is also wise, which is even rarer.
Great interview. Always love to hear Prof. Sowell talk about his work.
I especially enjoyed that the interviewer gently guided the discussion, but never imposed his own opinions or talked over his guest, as so many “interviewers” do.
Mark Levin started a new show tonight on Fox News. I think it was 8 pm CT.
He still has his Sunday night show
wow! (Gotta wonder if this new, additional slot is the Fox News “experts” still working to fix the damages from firing Tucker!)
Anyway, Levin’s 1st guest was Thomas Sowell!
His new book will hit the stores this coming Tuesday.
What a superstar!! An amazing thinker & writer, still clear, wise & quick at 93.
I hope he has another great decade!
We need such great people!
I listened to the Thomas Sowell podcast on Uncommon Knowledge. It’s very good. I didn’t know the stuff about IQ averages. Would that our President at age 80 had one half of Sowell’s intellect and energy at age 93.
Tom Sowell; the most ignored political economist in the USA, but for obvious reasons; he is a black conservative spreading the “wrong” message.
It is truly a shame. The media will trot out carpetbaggers like Sharpton and his ilk, but they totally ignore a real intellectual who is driven by………drum roll please…………….facts.
JohnTyler,
As much a shame is the lack of attention and praise for Justice Clarence Thomas. Politics or judicial views aside; his life journey is nothing short of astounding. He is truly someone worthy of admiration and praise.
David Mamet has dubbed Sowell “our greatest contemporary philosopher” ( https://www.villagevoice.com/david-mamet-why-i-am-no-longer-a-brain-dead-liberal/ ).
I also learned that Professor Sowell tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers! Imagine how much poorer we all would be (in intellect, and, perhaps dollars) had he made the roster and pursued a career in baseball rather than economics.
Mark Levin apparently hosted Thomas Sowell and Victor David Hanson, each separately, for maybe half of his hourlong FNC show.
Hanson is asked to comment on Sowell’s diagnosis. Politicians exploited the human urge for reparative equality. This has empowered the Left in power, not seen since 1932. Yet the results of their policies are manifest in “systemic collapse”. The collapse of norms and cultural institutions.

Thomas Sowell is a national treasure.
His autobiography is excellent. Tell me again why it is not commonly given as assigned reading in high schools?
