I took quite a few art history courses in college, and the painter Georges Braque was not a favorite of mine. I especially resented the fact that for years, his work and Picasso’s were almost identical, causing frustration for me during our exams when we were shown slides of paintings to distinguish and identify. But much later, when I saw some works of his in a museum – the ones painted after WWI when he was no longer joined at the hip to Picasso – I was stunned by how calming and beautiful they were when seen in person. The colors were especially harmonious and subtle.
Nice to know that there’s life after cubism.
Wonder, though, if there’s life after post-post-modernism…
Meanwhile…UH-OH! (Opening up Pandora’s box even wider…)

H/T Powerline blog.
‘Space composition’ … fleeting memories of half remembered dreams on wakening.
I took two Art History Classes in Grad School (I was a History Major) and enjoyed them immensely. I make it a point to go to museums if we can when we travel. The museums in France, England and other countries are wonderful to visit. Seeing at times some of the paintings that I studied in College in front of me is a great experience.
I must admit that I do not like art that came after the Impressionist/post-Impressionist era. I have only gone to the Museum of Modern Art a handful of times but have been to the Metropolitan Musuem of Art scores of times.
This was linked at the Power Line blog, and it’s one of the most encouraging things I’ve read in years, from the Associated Press, of all places. The #2 state for reading scores for low-income students is … Mississippi! Florida is in first place. Why? Because they’re teaching phonics to early readers.

Mr Meislin-
A comment to your linked article says it all-
For many decades, judges have signaled to politicians and administrators – ‘just tell us a lie that we can use for cover, and we’ll give you what you want.’
Paraphrasing another comment there-
If we allow admission by academic merit, we will end up with more entrepreneurs and engineers and scientists.
If we go for diversity, we will end up with social justice warriors and virtue hucksters.
Maybe just revive the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. It could be updated to add Jews, other Asians such as Indians, and maybe even Nigerians.
“…It could be updated to add…”
In fact, it has ALREADY been updated (in a manner of speaking) to include ANYONE—OF ANY RACE, COLOR OR CREED—who believes in MERIT, in HARD WORK, in HONESTY and in FAIRNESS.
Well…so much for diversity(!)…
(And so much for Dr. MLK…amongst many, many others who believe in the inherent goodness of America.)
(Come to think of it, that’s why I sometimes find myself fantasizing about a Tim Scott/Larry Elder ticket in 2024—just to see the Democratic Party and its supporters and media pals fall over themselves—go totally ape-s***, hysterically labeling those two stalwarts as “the TRUE FACE—the EPITOME—of White, Racist, TRUMPIST Supremacism(TM), etc… Well, one can certainly fantasize…but I wonder if Tim Scott might be considered as VP material…)
E.g., this fellow is remarkable:

…And he’s no doubt, as we speak, being labeled a WHITE SUPREMACIST by all the usual suspects.

Actually, Lee Smith is on a roll with a number of things that would seem to be “under the radar”:

As The Great Orange Whale used to say “China.”
Food for thought.

WJC giving the CCP missile technology wasn’t prudent, but they would have just stolen it anyway ….. Can Do!
CCP paid a lot of money to the Clintons for that technology and all the CIA secrets in the world.
House GOP should simply demand that Biden require Wray comply with the subpoena. If Biden doesn’t, impeach Biden.
And that is a story that is incredibly simple to tell the people. Biden has no defense. The corruption is blatant.
It’s the best possible way to focus the attention of the world on Biden’s criminality. Regardless of the lack of a senate conviction, it frames the issue for the election perfectly.
Reports say:
China’s Air Force’s planes and/or military planes have been doing [dangerous] maneuvers near US military planes, in International air-spaces.
China’s probably doing this [to try to bully the US military OUT of certain areas, in the air-spaces above Asia, (as in- the air-spaces above The South China Sea).
It would be really helpful President Biden, for you to talk to reporters and condemn these unsafe and bad, military actions being done by China.
But of course, you won’t.
China knows that he won’t, because Biden’s advisors likely tell him [to not cause problems between The US + China],…and if he did, that would make him and The Democrats look bad.
China knows that Biden won’t stand up to them, so China will keep doing deadly threats to The US Military.
In all seriousness, we really need you to stand up for The US Military, Mr. President.

Right.
Now let’s do Taiwan…
From 10 April 2023:
“China ends military drills after practicing blockade of Taiwan”—
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/04/10/asia-pacific/china-taiwan-military-exercises-day-three/
“China ‘ready to fight’ after 3 days of large-scale military drills around Taiwan”—
https://abcnews.go.com/International/china-ready-fight-after-3-days-large-scale/story?id=98494152
But don’t worry! “Biden”‘s cool, calm and collected finger is on the trigger…and Honest A. Blinken’s carefully monitoring the situation. Moreover, Gen. Milley’s preparing another emergency memo to reassure Xi that Milley will once again NOT allow Trump to launch an attack, he can count on it; besides, Trump is too busy at the moment attacking DeSantis and Kayleigh McEnany…
As usual, the country’s in the best of hands…
Count on it…
Good grief!

“He’s completely unhinged,” Marc Thiessen observed before pointing out McEnany “was one of the best people to serve in his administration.”
“He’s losing control, lashing out at anyone and everyone who does not tow [sic] his line. Sad,” Thiessen added.
Neo, what happened to my link to the Kayleigh McEnany story today (~3:47 pm, I think)? It seemed to be posted (13 comments), and a little while later it wasn’t (12 comments).
Oh. So now it’s back.
Braque has Picasso’s face in a different shaped head (same penetrating eyes and prominent head).
I may have said that about Mahler and Fonda last month, but their features and their head shapes were more alike than different.
