Politico didn’t run any articles like this about Jean Carroll, Trump’s accuser
And they won’t be doing it about Noelle Dunphy, Giuliani’s accuser.
At least, I haven’t been able to find any such articles there in a search.
What sort of article am I talking about? This one from two years ago, about Tara Reade, Joe Biden’s accuser. It’s basically a hit piece on her general veracity as reported by some people who have known her. Here’s a sample:
Over the past decade, Reade has left a trail of aggrieved acquaintances in California’s Central Coast region who say they remember two things about her — she spoke favorably about her time working for Biden, and she left them feeling duped.
As part of an investigation into Reade’s allegations against Biden — charges that are already shaping the contours of his campaign against a president who has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by multiple women — POLITICO interviewed more than a dozen people, many of whom interacted with Reade through her involvement in the animal-rescue community.
A number of those in close contact with Reade over the past 12 years, a period in which she went by the names Tara Reade, Tara McCabe or Alexandra McCabe, laid out a familiar pattern: Reade ingratiated herself, explained she was down on her luck and needed help, and eventually took advantage of their goodwill to extract money, skip rent payments or walk out on other bills.
For those who think that Reade can sue Biden, much like Carroll did Trump or Dunphy is doing Giuliani – well, she can’t. Reade’s allegations are that her sexual assault happened in Washington, DC, in 1993. That’s thirty years ago. The DC statute of limitations can be found here, and her cause of action would be way too old. And unlike New York, DC hasn’t passed a special law to let her do it – nor would there be any motivation to pass such a law, unless Reade was trying to get Trump or another figure on the right.
And even if the statute of limitations weren’t an issue, there’s another problem for someone like Reade, which is that DC is something like 90% Democrat. If somehow she were able to sue, what DC jury would ever find for her? The situation would be the exact opposite of New York.
That’s why Sandmann, the kid libeled by CNN, was so smart (or well advised) to sue them in his home state. I don’t think I’ve seen an explanation of how he did that.
I don’t know how they pulled that off, since the events occurred in dc, but you see how players like deutsche bank are never held accountable, they just pay the fine,
say 75 million,
Once in awhile, the Washington airports at least do the right thing: the nonbinary fashion wannabe with a penchant for lifting women’s luggage was arrested Wednesday night as a fugitive from justice: “Rob Yingling, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), said airport police ‘executed a search warrant May 17 in Montgomery County, Maryland, in connection with allegations of stolen property in luggage from Reagan National Airport that was brought to the department’s attention in February 2023. With the assistance of Montgomery County Police, Samuel Otis Brinton, age 35, of Rockville, Maryland, was taken into custody Wednesday pending charges of Grand Larceny.’ . . . On Thursday afternoon, Brinton appeared before a judge via closed-circuit television from the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where Judge Victor Del Pino declined to release him and ordered him extradited to Virginia. . . . ”
“A public defender spoke for him temporarily, despite his not being eligible for a public defender because of his income. He was wearing a blue jail jumpsuit and a mask. ‘Mr. Brinton is a nuclear engineer, he is married,’ the public defender said. ‘He works for GeoFission, a nuclear startup. He believes if he is released to turn himself in [to Virginia], he can keep his job… I believe the allegation is stolen luggage.’ Del Pino said ‘I will deny the request to turn himself in. Virginia will pick him up. Good luck in Virginia, Mr. Brinton.’ A court document lists Brinton’s sex as ‘X.’ The bald-headed nuclear engineer stood out at Thursday’s bond hearing among the other defendants, which included many non-English speaking defendants and people charged with gun crimes and other violent offenses.”
