  1. Wow! That’s quite an outfit!!
Alas these days being what they are, it kinda reminds me of a prototypical Bud Light commercial…
(In any event, EVERYONE is encouraged to have their say—while they still can, since it seems not unlikely that we are fast approaching the Age of “Speak Now or Forever Hold Yer Peace”)….

Meanwhile, a murder with a twist…that pretty much encapsulates the today’s “low dishonest” zeitgeist—either that or there’s something seriously wrong with the water in Utah (though not just Utah).

  2. Did the possibility ever occur to you that one prong of the left’s attack on traditional society might have been the deliberate deinstitutionalization of a whole host of mentally ill people, billed as needed humane and very necessary liberalization (plus the various changes in law and policy making it much harder to pick them up for things like vagrancy or loitering, or to involuntarily commit them); these people now free to create general chaos and violence throughout our society. See any democrat run big city for examples.

  3. ‘Comments’ by ‘Obscurity’ at ‘DailyWire’ concerning Texas shooter (page recently removed): Not buying it. 1) none of the “photos” of his supposed nazi tatoos have his face visible in them. 2) His social media posts had “zero likes or comments”, the hallmark of a fake account. 3) If posted a swastika on social media I’d be banned in half a second, fired, and a mob would be on my driveway. This guy supposedly posted worse than that for years with no detection? 4) Why did a Mexican who is supposedly a white supremacist shoot a bunch of white people? 5) A right winger nazi praised a hard left wing trans shooter for advancing a left wing cause? 6) A well-known Dallas gang tattoo is visible on his hand in the photo of him dead (it’s not a white supremacist gang either). 7) He’s yet another, sigh… mentally unstable loner, who was currently unemployed, living at home, and disappeared into a motel for a few weeks before surfacing with a boatload of expensive weapons, the knowledge of how to use them, and an unhuman ability to shoot kids in the face point blank on a suicide mission. These kinds of things don’t just happen. ///// I might add: One wonders why he wasn’t banned from buying guns? “The killer served in the U.S. Army but “was removed due to mental health concerns” in 2008, according to the FBI.” It was also noted most tattoos appear ‘new’ (and expensive). <<< Just 'food for thought'.

  4. What is the reasoning behind developing lethal viruses? If it’s to create a biological WMD — that’s a very inefficient way to fight a war. No targeting control and no way to stop the process. Lethal viruses are doomsday weapons. Why are we developing them?

  5. I can’t help believing that most — the majority of — progressives really believe that their schemes and policies and programs will ultimately benefit humans, and the planet as well. I can’t figure it out. How can they believe that?

  6. those costumes were a bit roccoco, but they were about the expression of the human imagination to see beauty and elegance those things beyond our humdrum existance

the deinstitutionalization (thats geraldo and bazelon and r d laing) made sure the insane would overwhelm the sane, the intellectual public square is an application of gresham’s law, as good ideas are driven out by utter insanity,

so new york and san francisco descend to places that even calcutta would resist, and the response is apparently not terrible enough,

  7. why would one trust ecohealth with any portion of public funds, they are a terrible stewart,
the more honest progs tell you humanity is a virus, thats the gaia hypothesis, so how does one deal with a virus, rhetorical,

  8. Um, Irish Otter, to save the planet you HAVE TO destroy it.
(Or at least destroy those whom you deem ARE destroying it…IOW Humankind.)
    For the planet’s sake.
    For humanity’s sake.
    For morality’s sake.

  9. Some blocks from my house, there is a large house that was built in about 1890 that is something of an amazing Victorian styled house. It had been in some significant disrepair, but was being restored ever so slowly.

If you include all the floors with windows that looked like actual living space windows, it has 5 stories. A half basement, half story; and a possibly livable attic room space. It would be fun to see the inside.

The exterior has all this ornamentation. Styled clapboard siding touches, Sunburst patterns under the roof peaks, and a large number of small spindles lining the under eves.

I ran into the owner one day a couple years ago, and she told me that they had owned it for several years and had just closed on selling it. The restoration wasn’t exactly finished either. Must have been a huge task.

  10. I’d like to see some of these videos done in reverse. Start with the full ensemble, then take it off, piece by piece. People used to pay money to see that 🙂

  11. P.S.—As I understand it the plan was supposed to consist of two parts—first, the mentally Illwere to be deinstitutionalized, second, small treatment faciliti/halfway houses to deal with them were to be scattered throughout residential neighborhoods; places where the former patients were to be monitored, given their medications and, where possible, reintegrated into society.

Sounded good but, between NIMBY protests and lack of funding, the second part of the scheme never materialized.

Of course it could be a stupidity vs malice thing.

  12. that might be the outfit katherine ross’s etta place might have worn, that was set at the turn of the century,

    I kid you not.

Is this on account of the antics of the same three loosely wired dames? Why do your parliamentary rules allow 3 of 99 to gum up the works so?

  15. Re not institutionalizing the mentally ill. Not only that, in some cases the ‘ill’ are now making / changing rules that have always defined them. Homosexuality comes to mind.

  16. Another changer:

I have been a Democrat my entire life. I live in Los Angeles. I was an actress for years. I voted for Obama, then Clinton. I couldn’t wait to vote against the ban on gay marriage. I supported Planned Parenthood. I called JK Rowling “TERF.” I read books like THE NEW JIM CROW in an attempt to “educate” myself. I was a Democrat through-and-through, and more than that—I was even onboard with wokeism, with equity (as opposed to equality), with intersectional feminism, etc. These people had me pretty much hook, line, and sinker.

Then in Summer 2020 I was encouraged to go out and engage in “firey but mostly peaceful protests” but was told it was still unsafe for me to go to work. That didn’t make sense. Nothing around me made any sense whatsoever. And I really needed to go back to work. Whenever I brought this up, I was told I was being selfish or even “racist.”

Indeed, whenever I saw talk—whether online or on corporate news—of those who took issue with lockdowns, it was always framed as an issue of selfishness, even of racism. For some reason, liberal folks had this idea that anyone remotely concerned over lockdowns was a wealthy white woman who was just bored and wanted to get her hair and nails done.

I felt like screaming at everyone, “who do you think does hair and nails?” Hairdressers and nail artists, whose jobs are ESSENTIAL TO THEM. Everyone is an “essential worker” to himself and the people who may depend upon him.
What bothered me the most wasn’t that these people disagreed with me, or that they had different ideas on how best to handle covid or BLM unrest—what bothered me the most was that they absolutely refused to recognize I might have any honest reasons for disagreeing with them.

And I had honest reasons for disagreeing with them. I and MANY others were being harmed by the tyrannical, overreaching, nonsensical response to covid—especially in blue cities and states. That felt like a punch to the gut, from the people I’d supported and aligned with all my life.

So I walked away from the Democrat party. They’ve proven me correct every damn day since then. #walkaway

  17. Welcome, Marisa

Many stories here like yours, though maybe not so quick in the change. You can read our hostess’ story in the links.

I sorta changed back in the 80s…went from liberal to MotR. What really tipped me over was working in academia as a faculty member during the 2000’s to 2010’s. The intolerance and non-nonsensical positions were exactly like you describe. As I’ve stated many times here, the big change in the last 2 years with the “Biden” administration is that all those nutty academic ideas have now been forced into the general culture. And it continues.

  18. physicsguy:

Marisa was quoting someone else’s Twitter account, with a link at the end.

  19. Marisa,

“Everyone is an “essential worker” to himself and the people who may depend upon him.”

I knew this, of course, but this is perhaps the best way I’ve seen this put into words.

  20. when they wargamed this response in 2019 one wonders if they put that twist in to affect small businesses, like nail salons and bodegas, but apparently not walmart or costco,

  21. It’s worth drilling down a bit for the video. It’s a real labor of love. The creator, Angela Clayton, did her research, created most of the patterns, then sewed them herself:
    ______________________________

It’s been a while since i’ve done one of these, but I wanted to highlight the details in this costume and show you how it turned out! This costume was made entirely by me.

    –Angela Clayton
    ______________________________

Clayton did five other videos along this line. I was looking for the credits on the simple, haunting piano soundtrack, but lost patience trying to find it.

  22. Wasn’t this the era of the “Gibson Girl”? I always thought that was a great look–the book & film “Ragtime” comes to mind.

  23. they did a remake in 2002 or some such, authorized by one of well’s descendants, but it was terrible,

  24. people used to take pride in their appearance, now to be a slob is per excellance
    –miguel cervantes

Jordan Peterson always looks like he’s Dressed for Success in his videos. That’s intentional.

A small part of his message to men, especially young men, is to dress well, as a matter of self-respect and attracting women in a good way, but as well to raise the general vibe above the slobbish standard of the day.

I’m far from a clothes horse, but I hate today’s Old Man Thing of a crappy t-shirt, old jeans and scuffed running shoes (not to mention tattoos) I see everywhere.

  25. Well, it would have been helpful if the quote had actual quotation marks around it. Then I wouldn’t have made a fool of myself.

  26. just for my memory – I posted the name of the song on the costume video here, per huxley’s request.
