President Trump indicted
They say a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. That sounds sort of funny, but it’s actually not the least bit funny. It’s about power that can be misused for any number of purposes, including political ones.
The Trump indictment is for a purely political purpose. What’s more, that’s so blatantly the case that everyone knows it. Half the nation doesn’t care – or applauds. The other half is outraged, but unfortunately no longer surprised. We’ve come that far down a terrible and dangerous road.
It’s almost irrelevant what the offense is supposed to be; we don’t know exactly at this point. As I’ve written before, it’s very likely to be similar to the charges against Netanyahu in that it would involve a novel (and ludicrous) interpretation of campaign finance law. For Trump, the testimony that supposedly implicates him was given by a notorious liar who contradicted himself in order to protect his own butt. And considering the January 6th prosecutions, the way has been paved to clamp down very hard on anyone who would protest in anything but the calmest and mildest manner. My guess is that the left would welcome protests that turn at least a little violent, or even try to provoke violence from the protesters, the better to further the left’s narrative.
It is unclear what exact raps Trump could face, given the secrecy surrounding the grand jury.
But sources familiar with the proceeding have said the case involves the alleged falsifying of business records, or bookkeeping fraud, over the hush money to aid Trump’s election, which could also constitute a campaign finance violation.
The alleged criminal deed would amount to a reported “low-level felony’’ for which Trump could face up to four years in prison if convicted.
Much of the rest of the article tries to answer questions such as whether Trump will be perp-walked, or handcuffed, or have his mugshot taken. All irrelevant as far as I’m concerned, and all up to Bragg and his underlings. The left has been planning this ever since Trump won the presidency, and they were determined to bag their Orange Whale in classic monomaniacal Ahab fashion.
Also:
Jury selection alone could be exhaustive in a case involving the former president, so experts say they would not expect any trial to begin for months, possibly even after the 2024 election.
That’s exactly what they want, because the left is in a win/win situation. The case is weak, and although it’s in New York and therefore a jury is likely to favor convicting Trump whatever the evidence or lack thereof, it’s possible he would be exonerated. So it’s fine if a trial doesn’t happen before the election. The indictment itself serves a purpose. Either it weakens Trump’s support so much that he doesn’t win the nomination, or it elevates him with enough GOP voters that he does get the nomination although very weakened with the voters in the middle whose support he would need in order to have even a chance of winning the presidency.
Lovely. The goal here is to lift Trump to the nomination and thereby re-elect Biden. I fear it will work.
As usual, the Babylon Bee is on the case: “WASHINGTON, D.C. — Morale at the FBI has reportedly never been higher because agents no longer have to travel abroad to turn countries into banana republics. . . . Agents are grateful for the extra time they get to spend with their families while focusing the bureau’s energy on important matters like prosecuting traditional extremist Catholics and former presidents with the last name of ‘Trump.’
‘I’ll miss the frequent flier miles. It was a great job perk,’ admitted Special Agent Dana Barr, ‘but I’m excited to hunt down parents who attend school board meetings and totally demolish their life savings. And to get Trump. That’s why I got into this line of work!'”

Re-elect Brandon? Only brain stem by then, no cognition needed, Brandon 2024. Why won’t Brandon be primaried by Fetterman?
Some might be worried about the road the Left has taken to Banana Republic politics and less about Brandon, although the idea that The Great Orange Whale is finally vanquished may be an up side to others. (sarc)
Meanwhile, Biden enjoys ice cream and awaits statement prepared by China.
Hate to sound overly negative here, but ….. at this point I think the only option for conservatives is the fragmentation of the country, hopefully a relatively violence-free dividing. I think we’ve seen the last of genuinely conservative presidents, the Dems have gamed the system top to bottom, they own the major institutions, they know to get out their vote in their favor, and remember, there’s 4-5 million border crossers, many of whom will be finding a way to pull the lever for their Dem providers.
Sorry, but I think conservative dreams of regaining legislative power so as to wreak vengeance on our Dem overlords are just that …. dreams. Sure, it’ll be an agony, breakups are hard to do, but considering the option of living in a soulless one-party State ….
The outcome will be determined by just how deep the corruption really goes.
“They say a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich.”
and the rest of that saying is “for killing the pig.”
In other words prosecute the victim for committing the crime – man, oh man, I’d say that is exactly what they are doing to Trump. Additionally, they are doing it for political reasons.
The press, along with others on the left, have been salivating like hungry jackals at just the thought of Trump being handcuffed, being taken for the perp walk, having his mug shot taken, just being taken down.
Honest historians might very well mark this as the beginning of the end of our Republic.
Neo, I think this fits in very well with your post about the decline of patriotism. Along with the idea of considering patriotism being good and necessary for our country I would like to add that respect for the “rule of law” is necessary for civilization. When respect for the rule of law, and that includes using the law wisely not for political gain, goes away then civilization as a whole will falter.
After all, if misuse of laws will be used by someone to go after others why would good people put their necks (along with their family members) on the line by running for pubic office if there is the fear that someone else will use the force of law to destroy them and/or their families.
And it wouldn’t be too much to also use the law to go after someone else’s business, property, etc. Why then would anyone venture to make life better for themselves or others if it can all be taken away “by law”?
I expect a motion to dismiss on the first day of a trial. Are there honest Democrats who will resist this? If not, the national divorce will be activated.
I think Trump would be wise to demand a quick trial if the charges aren’t dismissed by the arraignment judge. He is entitled to that under New York state law. Make the f****rs corrupt the process even further if they really don’t want a trial before 2024.
I fear this is not the only indictment. This charge is flimsy, and any decent judge would toss it out. But it’s New York where the judges are mostly partisan.
The propaganda about how lawless Trump is will be pushed day and night, far and wide. Many LIVs will buy that, “where there’s smoke, there must be fire.”
What I’d like to see is an assault on the New York courthouse every night for the next five months – give them a taste of what Portland has been through. But that would play right into their hands.
In fact, I think they’re hoping for violence. There are no doubt FBI “informants’ trying to organize such on social media right now. A replay of January 6th is their fondest dream.
I think their intent is to frame Trump, and f if they can get away with it, criminalize a whole lot of his supporters – the ULTRA-MAGAS.
The things being said about Trump on the MSM tonight are totally outrageous lies. It’s too bad the code duello has been outlawed. Fewer lies ware told about others when they had to back it up mano a mano.
Well, we’re really in the Banana Republic mode now.
I think the indictment of Trump, while deeply satisfying for the left, is not their fondest dream. The real aim is to provoke violence, giving them a rationale for intensifying the authoritarian grip already in progress—not that they seem to need much of a rationale for anything they do. I see violence in the country leading right up to the election and beyond. I agree, JJ, another January 6th, only much more so. I’m afraid we’ll see the military taking action against Americans. Extreme, yes, but that’s what I fear.
I saw Glenn Beck on Tucker tonight laying out a dark future, and I can’t say he’s wrong about that.
Glenn Beck has come a long way from when he rolled his face is a plate of crushed Cheetos in order to mock trump – or something.
Getting this out early, will Biden pardon Hillary?
If Trump is the GOP nominee, only the evil could vote for the abusers who have trashed the constitution. A vote for Democrats would be a decisive affirmation that the voter has embraced Big Brother and all the horrors of 1984.
Trump vs. any Democrat, after a blatant show trial, is a perfect election for the opportunity to take a stand. A voter either stands against Big Brother or stands with the oppressors.
Okay, neo. Here’s my prediction. Trump will be indicted in Fulton County, GA and in DC.
It will be a full court press of lawfare against Trump. “If you are going to kill the King, kill the King.”
The Left can’t take any chances.
Charles wrote above: “Honest historians might very well mark this as the beginning of the end of our Republic.”
Agree with overall sentiment, but the beginning was a while back. We have reached the closing stages of a destruction that started with the Clintons. The Clinton administration was the time that liberals/Democrats explicitly rejected the idea that the law should apply equally. Although one could argue it was Watergate.
Important to note —
1) Abuses of law are acts of violence.
[violence is the only way that govt acts. Which is why moral character in government officials is so critically important.]
2) Deliberately trying to goad opponents to violence by abusing the law is evil. The only way to argue that it isn’t evil is to employ a new dictionary.
I fervently hope that Joey enjoys to the fullest the precedent around indictment of a former President that his fellow Democrats are setting.
He may however be shocked at how much more severe the penalty is for taking money for treason, than for paying money to an extortionist.
Have the Dems actually read Moby Dick? Curious readers of 1984 want to know.
