Biden’s original sin — 69 Comments

  1. Two steps forward, one step back is a strategy that often works in the long run. I do not wish them success.

  2. I don’t think it’s strange, Neo. Wokism is a religion and is employing (‘perverting’) more and more religious symbols, allegories and language. It also continues to penetrate and conquer all the mainline Protestant faiths.

Whoever fed this script to Slo Jo (maybe Penn himself) is well aware that invoking religious terms can have a powerful impact on the woke faithful. It also serves to potential shame believing Christians who are largely left of center but have some serious doubts about some of the woke lunacy.

  3. And the way we do it is we make sure we pass legislation like we passed on same-sex marriage.

He means the Obergefell case? Oh well, legislation or SCOTUS decision. What’s the difference? “You know … the thing.”

  4. Every time this senile asshole opens his mouth, I have to keep wondering who is actually pulling his strings. I know in his prior life he was somewhat of a weather vane in his political beliefs, but the stuff he is spouting now is so much different from 15-20 years ago. I can’t believe he suddenly got “woke” as much as he is being manipulated. Again, who is really running things? Obama? Rice? who else???

  5. Every single member of the illegitimate senile buffoon’s administration is either stupidly incompetent or maliciously evil (including the so-called “female admiral” pictured above), but none has been more egregiously odious than the luggage-pilfering Brinton. What a rational person would regard as “sinful” is the hiring of such dreadful nation-wreckers in positions of power and influence.

  6. Wow. Ha. I forgot about that DOMA law. Nice one.

Now that I’ve given that a second thought, the facility with which the Dems pivot on issues is really becoming more and more Orwellian. At least it took them nearly a couple decades on that one.

  7. The debate on this today in NE was fierce. Four state senators cried on the floor.

No doubt in my mind that the Dems want to federalize this as many states have acted; including Iowa.

The debate in NE was insane. And I really mean insane.

Sen. Megan Hunt told the world yesterday and today that her 12-year-old daughter decided that she was male at the beginning of the pandemic. So, at about age 10 this kid decided to switch. Hunt said her “trans son” is a teenager and has crushes on boys.

The Left went on and on about passing this law would cause a “brain drain” and only add to our workforce shortage. Appealing to the old GOPe greed.

Sen. M. Cavanaugh and Hunt have vowed – and I mean vowed – to filibuster every single bill. The session is half over and not one single bill has become law. The Speaker is going to make them work nights.

  8. Even Pope Francis disagrees with “good Catholic” Brandon on trans mania:

While often touted as a progressive religious leader, Pope Francis has remained consistently orthodox on doctrines regarding sexuality and celibacy. The pontiff attributed the increasing global push for gender subjectivity to well-intentioned people who “do not distinguish what is respect for sexual diversity or diverse sexual preferences from what is already an anthropology of gender, which is extremely dangerous because it eliminates differences, and that erases humanity, the richness of humanity, both personal, cultural, and social, the diversities and the tensions between differences.”

    https://nypost.com/2023/03/11/pope-francis-gender-ideology-is-one-of-most-dangerous-ideological-colonizations/

  9. Well Saint Greta of “how dare you” just received an honorary doctorate in Theology. The obvious high priestess?

Of course it’s a religion… that woke leftist post-modern post-Christian stuff. Everyone has a god and especially a devil. Biden and the child saint will be glad to tell you who their devil is. They’ll hand you a mirror.

  10. Cornhead,

Thank you for your coverage of the NE legislature on this and the prior thread. Really interesting stuff. Hard to get more “middle America” than Nebraska.

  11. American Christians are very used to Christianity being co-opted for the political cause du jour. I suppose that’s because it has been the predominant religion since America’s founding. Political and military leaders always use the local theology to defend their power grabs.

  12. It should be criminal to alter a child’s gender from birth. What they teach and try to get kids to change their sexual orientation should be outlawed and prosecuted for child abuse. They are grooming kids to join their Cultural Marxism.

  13. I should add that some state senators said that kids will kill themselves if this bill passes.

Emotional blackmail of the worst sort.

  14. AP story, “That fear was echoed by several lawmakers, including Day, who wept as she read from an email sent Wednesday to all lawmakers by a clinical psychologist in Lincoln who said calls to the clinic from trans teens reporting feeling suicidal have jumped significantly in the past week. The psychologist warned that voting to advance the bill “will result in the deaths of transgender and gender diverse adolescents, likely before the end of the school year.”

“I want all of you to go into the rotunda and look into the eyes of those parents and tell them that you’re voting for this bill knowing that it could potentially kill their child,” Day said through sobs.”

  15. It only makes sense that Biden should extoll—or…what’s that word they bandy about these days? (turned it into a verb, no less) oh yes, privilege—abuse:
Abuse of the body, abuse of the mind, abuse of the soul. Abuse of the law.
(Just ask Tara Reade…and who knows how many others….?)
    Abuse.
    And betrayal.

  16. I look at the volume of information we humans have developed in biology, chemistry, math, physics, geology, meteorology, medicine, engineering, manufacturing, and other knowledge that has allowed us to live our lives in relative comfort. Then I wonder how such masses of people, many of them well-educated, can suddenly reject it all in favor of the dysfunctional tendencies of a small percent (.3%) of the population. Is it all done in service to destroying the American culture? Or are these people really convinced of such ideas? Much like other manias of past times. “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds”
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraordinary_Popular_Delusions_and_the_Madness_of_Crowds

Biden has always been a shape shiftier who will ride any issue he thinks will give him more power/money. That he and his cohorts use religious vocabulary to push their idolatry reveals how much their ideas are based on faith, not facts.

Do the Nebraska legislators who are having nervous breakdowns on the legislature floor realize how much damage they are doing to their reputations? Do they know how much damage the children of Nebraska will suffer if they get their way?

These are questions and hysterical actions that I never expected to ask or see. My hope is that wokeness is a delusion that will soon pass on and be buried on the ash heap of history like other bad ideas.

  17. I did some legal research today. Obamacare mandated that insurance companies pay for this gender altering care. That’s when this really started. One NE doctor testified to that effect.

25 states and DC pay for gender altering care via Medicaid.

Via lawsuits, every state’s Medicaid might end up paying for this trans stuff. One state senator complained that Medicaid wouldn’t pay for her daughter’s switch.

The cost for hormone therapy is $7k per month, per Sen. Hunt.

This trans guy told the legislative committee that he and his insurers paid $1m for his switch. He’s sick all the time and has to take drugs. A lifetime annuity for Big Pharma.

We are all paying for this. Follow the money.

Nebraska Medicine and UNMC are doing this gender stuff. A report came out this week that they are losing millions. Solution? Get more kids paying $7k per month. It adds up. Profit!

  18. Neo: “But the use of the word “sin” by Biden is telling, because leftism is a religion-substitute and treats doctrinal and behavioral non-believers quite harshly.”

I remember how Obama used to make the sign of the cross over the turkeys when he did that White House tradition of pardoning the turkeys at Thanksgiving time.

So, yep, those of the left mock religion every chance they get while embracing their form of religion to go after others.

  19. Twilight faith, Pro-Choice ethical religion, progressive liberal ideology, mortal gods, goddesses, and experts to sanction their behavior. That said, bennies for babies. Get your bennies for babies NOW.

  20. Cornhead: Thank you for the info. about the connection between Medicaid and trans stuff.

You are doubtless familiar with the NE Progressive Legislative Study Group’s YouTube channel (interesting: it’s posted 500 videos but has only 319 subscribers!), but in case Neo’s commenters from other parts of the country want to look deeper into a group that boasts “We Are the 2nd House” of the Nebraska legislature, here is a link:

    https://www.youtube.com/@neblsg/about

The group describes itself as follows: “The Nebraska Progressive Legislative Study Group is a volunteer-led, grassroots organization founded in 2018 with a goal to educate Nebraskan’s [sic] on our unique nonpartisan Unicameral in order to advocate for progressive policy and progressive candidates. We believe all legislation must be considered from an intersectional and intentionally inclusive perspective with a goal of human equality and social and economic justice, and that It is both our right and responsibility to participate in our democracy. We encourage and support a diversity of tactics [emphasis mine] with a focus on participating as Nebraska’s 2nd House.”

  21. I finally give not one sh÷×. Cut off your breasts, plug your vagina, and sew on a kielbasa. Hack off your willy and replace it with a gaping wound. Be sterile. Be in constant confusion. Regret it all. I just don’t care. They are so adamant about who they really are and what they want, and demand from everyone else…. well fool around and find out. You asked for it and now you got it…good and hard. Shove your so called rights, parade around showing pride that you take it up the nether tube. Get on drugs and disintegrate. I’m done. I care for the little ones in burn and cancer wards. If we end up with a generation of useless drone narcissists who can’t change a tire or do anything useful, well, that’s a good thing because they don’t reproduce. And if parents end up with massive guilt, well, good. Put them on extinction. As Lyle Lovett said, that’s the difference between God and me.

  22. Interesting new article over at Quillette by a gay man who objects to the coercive commercialization of Pride events: ” . . . many organizations have gone beyond the usual rainbow ads, signage, flyers, sponsorships, and parade floats. They are now enlisting their employees and affiliates in public demonstrations of ‘allyship.’ In the view of this gay progressive author, such moves are implicitly coercive and counterproductive. In some cases, they even run afoul of the core principles that animate liberal democracies, such as freedom of conscience. . . . Casual observers have better things to do than invest their time in the weeds of alphabet politics. But it shouldn’t be hard to understand why so many observers are troubled by the sight of men winning women’s sports competitions; by the explosion of children and teens being put on puberty blockers and hormones; and by organizations that now seek to ‘queer’ society rather than integrate within it. . . . Majorities have an inherent power in numbers. Minorities need to persuade, something that’s difficult to do when you’re simultaneously engaged in hectoring. Advocates for diversity and inclusion forget this at their peril.”

    https://quillette.com/2023/03/23/corporate-rainbow-pr-too-much-of-a-good-thing/

  23. “But the use of the word “sin” by Biden is telling, because leftism is a religion-substitute and treats doctrinal and behavioral non-believers quite harshly.” neo

The denial of reality is not a path to lasting success. A secular ‘religion’, so fundamentally in opposition to biological reality, rests upon a foundation of shifting sand.

  24. “I want all of you to go into the rotunda and look into the eyes of those parents and tell them that you’re voting for this bill knowing that it could potentially kill their child,” Day said through sobs.”

The suicide rates difference between gender dysphoria untreated and those who have “transitioned” is negligible. The “suicide argument” is a lie.

We are in the beginning of the end of transgender moral panic. Lawsuits will end this soon and in a vast exchange of money. The same thing happened to the “Recovered Memories” panic and for the same reason. In any unbiased court, this treatment is indefensible. Even in biased courts, as we have now, this will not survive reasonable scrutiny,.

  25. Speaking as a conservative Christian, I am deeply offended by Biden’s use of the religious language of sin to endorse what is clearly sin. I believe observant Jews should be offended as well.

Again, speaking as a Christian, I believe Biden, who claims to be a Catholic Christian, is putting his soul in danger, as well as endangering these young people for whom he calls for permanent physical and emotional damage.

Leftism in its various manifestations is a new religion for those who do not have any traditional belief system. Like many new religions, it is cult-like and dangerous.

See Glenn Reynolds’ Substack on the topic of new religions.

    https://instapundit.substack.com/p/it-should-be-safe-to-be-unpopular

  26. Yes, it is soooo sinful to be against this thing that DIDN’T EVEN EXIST FIVE MINUTES AGO. I read it in 1st Corinthitrans.

Seriously, how did this explode into being a huge part of our culture all of a sudden? No one would have supported this a decade ago. Now it’s suddenly the hill so many are willing to die on.

  27. My comments here can’t really convey how unhinged these Dems are about this trans business. Totally and completely unhinged.

  28. From online someplace, seems about right: Transgenderism is on ramp to Transhumanism and living indefinity in cybernetic stages.

  29. I wish there was a video of the Assistant HHS Secretary saying this would be normal, soon.
I would really like to send the video to some people.

  30. Cornhead: “Obamacare mandated that insurance companies pay for this gender altering care.”

Another reason they had to “pass the bill to see what’s in it.” What a grotesque joke Obamacare is on the people of America. “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” Yada, yada, yada. So much destruction of the medical care system in this country. All to “fundamentally transform the country.

  31. Cornhead,
Regarding the Nebraska legislators – I believe Jordan Peterson refers to this sort of behavior as ‘malignant narcissism’.
And you’re right that the recent explosion of ‘gender identity’ care is related to Obamacare requiring coverage.
I’m in agreement with Mike K. This is going to end in the courts. Kaiser has just been hit with a second suit. Wait until the juries hear about the emotional blackmail the psychologists used on the parents to get permission to treat. ‘Do you want a dead daughter or a live son?’ The judgements are going to be astronomical.
    Ackler,
There are Christians that are left of center?
    Who knew?

  32. “…how unhinged…”

Essentially, they are THE party of mutilation.
    On all levels.
    In all realms.
In fact, mutilation (on all levels, in all realms) has become THE moral imperative….such that mutilation is, in dem-speak, no longer mutilation….
(The mendacious, manipulative, utterly corrupt mainstream media has a huge role in this, of course…since they are on the side of “virtue”, sophistication, intelligence and wisdom…on all levels, in all realms…)

  33. “And the way we do it is we make sure we pass legislation like we passed on same-sex marriage. You mess with that, you’re breaking the law and you’re going to be held accountable,” Biden added.

That’s a warning to all those bigoted cake bakers and florists out there who don’t want to use their talents and skills to support things they disapprove of.

The Supreme Court should not have whiffed on Jack Phillips’ first case.

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-justice/phillips-found-in-violation-of-law-again-as-scotus-ruling-looms
    January 26, 2023

Phillips has been ensnared in litigation for the better part of a decade due to his sincerely held religious beliefs that he says prevent him from designing certain cakes that celebrate themes that contradict his ideology. He won a case that went to the Supreme Court in 2018 after he declined to make a wedding cake for a gay couple but was sued again in the spring of 2021 after a man who self-identifies as a woman and changed his name to Autumn Scardina wanted Phillips to create a cake that was blue on the outside and pink in the middle.

The Alliance Defending Freedom, a legal group that represents Phillips’s business, Masterpiece Cakeshop, signaled a plan to appeal to the state Supreme Court, according to a press release.

“Free speech is for everyone. No one should be forced to express a message that violates their core beliefs,” said ADF senior counsel

The first case was decided for Phillips only because the Colorado Civil Rights Commission got caught making outright bigoted and malicious statements about him, not on the Free Speech merits.
NOTE: Same sex marriages were not even legal in Colorado at the time!

I think the Court made a yuuuuge mistake, and I’m not the only one.

Following oral arguments on Dec. 5, ADF CEO and lead counsel Kirsten Waggoner told the Washington Examiner several conservative justices including Amy Coney Barrett “identified the real issue” of the “constitutional injury” her client faces against Colorado’s law.

Unlike Phillips’s legal battles, web designer and graphic artist Lorie Smith, founder of her company 303 Creative, has not been asked to conduct work that violates her sincere religious beliefs. Rather, she is challenging the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act preemptively out of fear that she will be sued if she declines to make a wedding website for a same-sex couple. She’s also arguing her case on free speech grounds under the First Amendment rather than citing her religious objections.

When Phillips won his litigation before the high court in 2018, the justices decidedly avoided addressing whether the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act breached the First Amendment, only holding that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission unfairly targeted him under the law.

During oral arguments in Smith’s case, Justice Neil Gorsuch suggested that under the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, Colorado forced Phillips to undergo a “reeducation program” when he refused to create a custom cake for a same-sex marriage.

Colorado argued that Smith’s business qualifies as a public accommodation that required her to serve every member of the community, including creating custom webpages for same-sex couples that would be celebrating such unions. Smith’s counsel contends her objections are based on the content she is requested to create, noting she has served LGBT clients for other requests in the past that don’t relate to sexual orientation.

That’s the same argument Phillips made, and the Court should have ruled that objections to being forced to condone certain actions is not the same as discriminating against people.

  34. @ PA Cat > “Interesting new article over at Quillette by a gay man who objects to the coercive commercialization of Pride events:”

Very interesting – and reminds us that no “identity group” is monolithic.
He is absolutely right about this:

One important aspect of these earlier programs: players opt into them of their own free will. The element of choice and personal conviction adds a moral force to their efforts that is absent when the onus is reversed—i.e., when they are pressured to signal their support for the rainbow world on pain of public humiliation and the possible loss of sponsorships if they fail to show up.

While many hockey commentators have proved eager to demonstrate their progressive bona fides by denouncing Reimer, my own view is that these dust-ups demonstrate the folly of intermingling corporate marketing with acts that play on the conscience of individual actors. Despite the fact that the NHL has said players are free to opt out of Pride events, there is obviously a good deal of social and professional pressure exerted on players to go with the herd. Those who swallow their principles and participate will experience anger and resentment, while the few public dissenters, such as Reimer, predictably become martyrs to individuals and groups who may be far less tolerant than the dissenters themselves. The result is that the presumed beneficiaries of performative inclusion—i.e., people like me—find themselves dealing with more skepticism of LGB and T rights, not less.

  35. “…You mess with that, you’re breaking the law and you’re going to be held accountable…”

Says the man whose favorite hobby is breaking the law…and encouraging others to do so….

    (Hobby?)

  36. @ Cornhead > “We are all paying for this. Follow the money.”

For a political party and an ideology that spend so much time lambasting greedy business men and evil capitalists, the Democrats and Marxists have an awful lot of profiteering going on.

  37. @ Geoffrey > ” A secular ‘religion’, so fundamentally in opposition to biological reality, rests upon a foundation of shifting sand.”

Our Church kids sing this song in Sunday School.
    https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/childrens-songbook/the-wise-man-and-the-foolish-man?lang=eng

1.The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down.

2.The rains came down, and the floods came up,
The rains came down, and the floods came up,
The rains came down, and the floods came up,
And the house on the rock stood still.

3.The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
And the rains came tumbling down.

4.The rains came down, and the floods came up,
The rains came down, and the floods came up,
The rains came down, and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand washed away.

    Actions:
Rock: Plant right fist solidly in palm of left hand.
Rains: Let hands descend from high in the air.
Floods: Raise hands with palms up.
Sand: Wiggle fingers and move arms back and forth in front of body.
Washed away: Wiggle fingers and move arms out away from the body.

Words and music: Southern folk song
    Matthew 7:24–27

  38. Well, AF, they have a duty and a responsibility to MAKE SURE that ALL the money is in responsible hands…
(Having all that money in the hands of the irresponsible would be wasteful. Profligate. Simply wrong. SINFUL…)

In any event, “almost a sin” in this case is, for Biden, merely the sacerdotal equivalent of “If you don’t vote for me, you ain’t…” solemnly intoned, with great concern for the spiritual condition of his flock, by the self-appointed High Priest of Woke.

  39. physicsguy 4:55 pm

You are asking the right questions. Wasn’t the whole point of Biden supposed to be he was good ol’ Uncle Lunch Bucket Joe who appealed to middle-of-the-road LIVs put off by Trump? But his *first day in office* he issues an EO endorsing trans “women” (ie really men) in women’s sports. It is insane how they are trying to shove this down our throats and more than insane, it’s frightening. The “recovered memory” hysteria of the 80s doesn’t compare because it wasn’t being force-fed by major politicians.

Mike K: “We are in the beginning of the end of transgender moral panic. Lawsuits will end this soon” I pray you are right. This just can’t go on, if it does we are ruined.

  40. Mike K and others on this thread: here’s a loooong feature article from Mother Jones, but worth taking the time to read because it exposes the tactics of the trans lobby: “Inside the Secret Working Group That Helped Push Anti-Trans Laws Across the Country: Leaked emails give a glimpse of the religious-right networks behind transgender health care bans.”

    https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/03/anti-trans-transgender-health-care-ban-legislation-bill-minors-children-lgbtq/

Again, it’s long, but it’s useful in understanding the mindset of the leftards pushing the trans agenda.

  41. Context: I’m trans, and I oppose surgeries or hormones for minors…

The use of religious wording isn’t surprising, it’s not merely politics replacing religious phrasing but also that of subverting the intent of the separation of powers, local and national. In other words, he is telling the public their local governments are irrelevant and that the federal government will supercede them. Ie, unconstitutional.

Despite my identity and personal views, this is outrageous and a dangerous position

  42. Speaking of the sacerdotal, Stalin’s seminary education would seem to have served him well in truly understanding the more cultic—and, ironically, hierarchical—aspects of Communism, perhaps most notably in providing those he needed to “cancel” (or air-brush out) with the opportunity to first make a “public confession” of their sins….

+ Bonus (for early movie buffs):
    “When Moses Went Through DeMille”—
    https://www.commentary.org/articles/meir-soloveichik/moses-exodus-passover-cecil-demille/
…whereupon we are informed what the “voice of God” sounded like (in this silent movie)… Truly the ways of God are awesome…

  43. Note: The first version of “The Ten Commandments” was made in 1923 and was a silent film.
The second version, a “talkie”, was filmed in 1956…

  44. The second version, a “talkie”, was filmed in 1956…

Here’s the 1956 scene in which Moses (Charlton Heston) warns Pharaoh (Yul Brynner) about the last and worst plague to strike Egypt– the loss of first-born children. The detail of Pharaoh’s sending off his young son (presumably to play somewhere) toward the beginning of the clip is obvious foreshadowing but still powerful.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOnjKPcxw0c&ab_channel=tlbldnhdsome

I can’t help thinking of Biden as a present-day Pharaoh: “…You mess with that, you’re breaking the law and you’re going to be held accountable…”

  45. Well maybe, but Biden has far better media support….

Can you imagine the NYT (OK, the Memphis Times) reporting on 1) the tenth plague? Or 2) the parting—and closing—of the Reed Sea?
    1. “Deplorables’ God slaughters tens of thousands of innocents in massive and unprovoked bloodbath!!!!”
    2. Israelites pounce as triggered Sea of Reeds wreaks violent vengeance on reconnoitering Egyptian military force.

  46. Lance

I agree, about adults. But the AWFL whose top-end fashion accessory is a trans kid, and the Munchauseners should not be allowed to manipulate a kid into their sick fantasies.

“My kid wants to change sex!” means…”Finally. Took a lot of work.”

Remember the Slenderman stabbings. As I’ve said elsewhere, if it’s this bad, it’s got to be worse.

It’s not hard to manipulate a kid–some of them anyway–into anything you like. Some proportion of them are looking for some kind of identity or some kind of self image which makes sense and they’re VULNERABLE.

There’s a reason nobody tries to groom adults. Waste of time.

And the pressure is there. See Libs of TikTok, the category of teachers bragging about how they do what everybody says they’re not doing.

  47. Byron York, at the Washington Examiner, summarizes a very interesting study about people who identify as trans. 69% have not used hormone treatments, and 84% have not had surgery. About three-quarters have simply changed their clothing and hair styles. Based on this, it is a huge mistake to push hormones and surgery on children, when a majority of “trans” adults report being happier in their new presentation without those interventions.

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/a-new-look-at-trans-in-america

  48. This discussion reminds me of a quote from Richard Fernandez (Wretchard):
“When you throw open the Gates of Hell, you have no control over what flies out.”

  49. We are in the beginning of the end of transgender moral panic. Lawsuits will end this soon and in a vast exchange of money. The same thing happened to the “Recovered Memories” panic and for the same reason. In any unbiased court, this treatment is indefensible. Even in biased courts, as we have now, this will not survive reasonable scrutiny.

    Mike K:

I think so, as well. The trans mania is the weakest aspect of Woke and it will be the first to be rolled back.

Human are quite flexible when it comes to holding contradictory beliefs, but reality poses some limits.

Recovered memories provide an interesting comparison, though Trans enjoys far more political backing.

Some terrible things happened to fathers based on “recovered memories.”

  50. “It’s not like … a kid wakes up one morning and says, ‘you know, I decided that I want to become a man or I want to become a woman’

People who’ve been in high-level DC politics for 50 years shouldn’t pretend to understand how things are like in the rest of the world.

“It’s not like people are sitting around a table somewhere in Central America saying ‘I got a great idea. Let’s sell everything we have…to a coyote or smuggler. They’ll take us on a harrowing journey. Then we’re gonna illegally cross the border.”

Most of those sneaking across the border aren’t families and they aren’t selling their houses or farms to come here. Is it so hard to understand that people will leave a poorer country for a richer one even if they aren’t in fear for their lives — if the border is effectively open?

Is it so hard to understand that cultural pressures can convince young people that they are a different gender than they biologically are and that they may make rash decisions that in time they will come to regret?

  51. Mike K: “We are in the beginning of the end of transgender moral panic. Lawsuits will end this soon” I pray you are right. This just can’t go on, if it does we are ruined.

Memories are short. I first became aware of the “Recovered Memories” thing in 1994 when I was at Dartmouth. There was a local case and then I saw “The Courage to Heal” in the Dartmouth Bookstore. This was a huge thing that followed the McMartin Preschool case and the “daycare center hysteria.” There were adults in prison for years from that hysteria.
Some of the story is here. These “moral panics” seem to occur every ten years or so. The communist witch hunts may have been part of this cycle although there really were communist spies.

Some of these panics may have a financial motive. Just before the daycare panic, Al Gore got a bill passed in Congress that funded child abuse investigations.

The end of the recovered memories thing was Gary Ramona’s lawsuit success. “Managed Care” had hurt psychologists by limiting the amount insurance would pay for therapy. The “Recovered Memories” panic was a godsend for therapists. The American Psychological Association was running workshops on how to “recover memories” at the annual convention that year. After Ramona won his lawsuit, insurance companies stopped coverage for recovered memories and the panic vanished.

There are a couple of lawsuits pending and more will follow. They will be on consent issues and I don’t see how the defendants can win these. Adult transgenders usually don’t have the mutilating surgery. The “suicide” argument is bogus and suicides are just as frequent in postop transgendered kids.

  52. Great comments by Cornhead on “follow the money” and Medicaid, and by Leah about legally federalizing these sorts of issues.

And the way we do it is we make sure we pass legislation like we passed on same-sex marriage.

Near the top, I quipped about the error of this line implying that it’s probably just Sloe Joe being his usual senile self. But the more I think about it, I suspect it was a carefully scripted line that Biden recited correctly. This would connect with Leah’s point about them wanting to federally coerce these issues.

There’s perhaps an important subtlety here. If they had passed legislation to enforce same sex marriage or did so in the future for trans issues, then this might be the sort of “tyranny of the majority” that the founding fathers worried about in more pure democracies.

But I think it is true that they (Dems or Uniparty pols) generally don’t find a consensus among majorities for some of the more extreme issues. What they are really after is a tyranny of the minority, of the sort that can be achieved with SCOTUS decisions. But they don’t want to admit that so the speech writers rewrite history, Orwell style.

They may win some. If the parents consent, and were fully informed. But, yes, the consent aspect is going to be key here for a lot of the suits involving minors. The kids can’t give consent, and neither can their teachers. Unfortunately, public school teachers pushing kids into this are likely to get qualified immunity. Maybe not, given that it is out of their job description. We can only hope. But the doctors doing this sort of thing are likely not going to be as lucky. If I were a doctor, dealing with this sort of thing, I wouldn’t touch the kids, or even talk to them, without full parental knowledge and consent. I can see them trying to make this like abortion, but here, the medical professionals are very often neutering the kids, and it will be those now sterile kids who will be the plaintiffs. If I were running a medical malpractice insurance company, I would be warning my client doctors that their coverage will be yanked, if they continue this nonsense.

  54. If I were running a medical malpractice insurance company, I would be warning my client doctors that their coverage will be yanked, if they continue this nonsense.

And the damages will be huge. Recovered memories mostly damaged parents but this will be lifelong damage to kids who will be sterile. What are the damages to victims who will never have a normal life ?

  55. Mike K:

You write: “Adult transgenders usually don’t have the mutilating surgery.” I believe that’s correct, but that minors who identify as trans are even less likely to have surgery. However, in both groups, quite a few do.

  56. This all the fault of the squishy middle. Those that vote for Dems because they always have or because they want to be seen as “nice”.

The Dems are the party of open borders, open jails, and open locker rooms.

Any vote for the Democrats is a vote for the further destruction of our nation.

  57. What strikes me worst about Biden is what it says about us. Biden has always been a horrible wretch of a human being almost completely devoid of redeeming qualities, but yet he has managed to hold office for decades upon decades. In spite of the well documented racism, dishonesty, lies, malevolence, and staggering idiocy. I know there is a split about whether or not he “legitimately” won over Trump in 2020, but the fact that it is debatable at all and that they could maneuver him into the margin of fraud is staggering.

A few things that arise from this.

Firstly: this is not a new problem at all. Biden himself is not a new problem and this predates him, though it has only gotten worse. We like to talk a lot about the effects of the woke revolution and the 1970s, but Biden shows there was something wrong with the body politic and the Dem Machine as a whole.

Secondly: As fancy and justified as it is to focus on The Woke, Biden comes from a generation before it really took off and is very distinctly a problem with the machine politics and corruption among the more “baseline” of the party. And shows how to the extent they have hewed to the Woke it was largely a matter of calculation and figuring out which way the wind was blowing.

Thirdly: it makes me reassess and concur with the idea that America needs stronger and more permissible libel laws. I have previously resisted them like hell, but I legitimately do believe it has gone too far, especially in terms of attacks on public figures. And being able to clean Biden out after things like his smears of the surviving driver in the accident that killed his wife would likely have shut him down, as well as other malcontents.

Fourthly: It reaffirms my belief about the deep evils afflicting the media. They afflict only those that suit their purposes, and that has allowed people like him to grow very comfortable indeed. Hence the systematic disinformation. Biden and his puppeteers have been masterminding this more forcefully as the Twitter files show, but they had to have private sector support to get that far.

Fifth: it shows how deep partisanship and in particular degredation of standards has come. By rights Biden should have been turfed out of power long ago due to incompetence and being an embarrassment.

Stuff like this burns me out and enrages me like mad, all the worse because I do not really have any good answers on what to do about it.

  58. A good read Devil and Karl Marx Communism’s Long March of Death, Deception and Infiltration about what a miserable human Marx was, how the Soviets infiltrated Western religions and how the new Marxists have changed original class warfare into the Cultural Marxism.

  59. minors who identify as trans are even less likely to have surgery.

The damage claims are going to be about surgery. The others have the chance to grow out of it. The recovered memories case was about parents so maybe parents have a case unless they signed a consent.

  60. Mike K:

I believe there will also be claims for hormone treatment of minors – infertility, irreversible voice changes, etc..
