A January 6th fact sheet – and some questions
Julie Kelly has been one of the best reporters on January 6th from the start. A few days ago she published this handy fact sheet on the subject, summarizing what is known.
I want to focus on these points:
Roughly 100 defendants are accused of attacking police officers with a dangerous weapon. No one is charged with carrying or using a firearm inside the building.
Speaking of police, body-worn camera and independent video show outrageous misconduct by law enforcement. D.C. Metropolitan Police launched an aggressive and unnecessary offensive against the crowd assembled on the west lawn. Even though protesters were respecting police lines at the time, footage shows officers throwing stun grenades into and other devices containing rubber bullets into the crowd beginning shortly after 1:00 p.m.
Video and testimony by Capitol police officers at trial confirmed how that activity enraged the crowd. Other officers shoved women down stairs and shoved one man off the upper terrace balcony.
This conduct continued inside the building. Some officers shoved and hit individuals inside the Rotunda and other areas. A brutal scene in the lower west terrace tunnel unfolded as police used their batons to beat at least two women on the head resulting in bleeding and injuries.
Excessive force caused the deaths of four Trump supporters: Ashli Babbitt, Rosanne Boyland, Kevin Greeson, and Benjamin Phillips.
I’d like a list of the dangerous weapons and the number of people accused of wielding each.
I’d like to know exactly what supposedly provoked the attacks by police, or whether they were unprovoked. I would also like to know what ordinary protocol would have been for the police in such a situation.
I’d like to know how many of the attacks on police were in response to the attacks by police on otherwise unaggressive protestors.
I’d like to know what injuries were reported by police (supposedly 114 Capitol Police, for example). Major? Minor? “Injury” covers a wide range of possibilities, some of them quite minor.
I’d like to know which police injuries were from friendly fire, as it were – for example, did the police mistakenly tear gas themselves (I read such a report, but unfortunately can’t find it now)?
Lastly, of course, I want to know how many government agents were present and exactly what their roles were.
Will we ever discover – or uncover – the answers? I doubt it. But without those answers it’s impossible to understand what happened that day.
NOTE: I see that Julie Kelly writes this:
Excessive force caused the deaths of four Trump supporters: Ashli Babbitt, Rosanne Boyland, Kevin Greeson, and Benjamin Phillips.
We know that’s true of Ashli Babbitt. I’ve read conflicting things about the death of Boyland, including the fact that video purporting to show her being beaten to death is of a different incident. I’ve never heard it alleged that the other two deaths were anything but heart attacks. I’d like more definitive word on all of this.
Also, please note how cleverly and duplicitously The Hill covered some of this a year ago. Typical:
Previously, [it had been reported that] more than 80 officers were injured on Jan. 6, which resulted in five deaths after pro-Trump supporters stormed the building in the hope of stopping Congress’ count of Electoral College votes affirming President Biden’s win.
The way that sentence is constructed, a reader could easily conclude those deaths were of injured officers, even though that is completely untrue. This is no accident; this is the way reporters work these days to frame a mendacious narrative while not necessarily lying in the technical sense. No police died that day and even later the police who died (such as Officer Sicknick) did not die from injuries sustained that day – although the Democrats and the press would have you think they did.
This makes my blood boil. Had there been any doubt on my mind that DC should never, ever receive statehood – not even as part of some deal to transfer the Capital District elsewhere – Jan 6th has forever hardened my heart against it.
In a just world, the Capital Police would be disbanded immediately, without compensation, and the DC Mayor and Pelosi arrested. But alas we do not live in a just world.
It makes my blood boil. And I am now convinced all the DC Police outfits need to be disbanded and the district itself de-urbanized.
Well this would de-urbanize D.C., but I wouldn’t recommend it:

They lie. All. The.Time.
It is a massive, massive coverup.
But extremely well orchestrated (keeping in mind that the same FBI honcho that planned the Whitmer “kidnapping” was brought to DC to help organize Jan. 6).
So well orchestrated, in fact, that it brings to mind the Nov. 2020…as well as that tour de force of devious, unscrupulous, sophisticated deception: Russiagate.
Coincidence? (Alas, Obama & Co. were just getting warmed up…)
If they do ever succeed in piecing together the events—one hopes there is sufficient coverage—it will take a long time; or it will need some whistleblowers.
Anything is possible but the likelihood is that the Democratic judge (in spite of Justice Roberts’ righteous belief) will put as many of them away as quickly as he can.
And it is obvious that the corrupt media will shriek hysterically that it’s all “fabricated” by Tucker Carlson and the Trumpistas. After all, it’s what they do best.
WRT to the tear (or similar) gas used by the Capitol Police as a crowd-control tool, the canisters were either launched too short or (and/or?) into the wind. In either case, it caused injuries to members of the force, in some cases relatively serious respiratory effects.
There was also criticism of the Capitol Police made by a professional LE person that they deployed the gas canisters far too close to some of the protesters, using those canisters as projectiles, which is, apparently illegal (heh!) and in fact caused serious physical injuries to some of them.
The CP were either amateurs or they were sadists, at least some of them. One can always embrace the power of “and”, of course.
Let’s hope that some are decent and contrite; that they have a conscience of some kind and will come forward. Wouldn’t recommend holding your both, alas….
Thus, Jan. 6 may in fact be one of America’s darkest episodes, but for PRECISELY the OPPOSITE reason that the Democrats and their evil adjuncts would have us believe.
(But then that’s standard Democratic MO, right there….)
Of course theres the case of thomas caldwell a decorated veteran with a security clearance who bore no weapons but was caged like an animal and charged with sedition. Any doubt what war powers would allow them to dk to any dissenter
In my list of discoveries that are possible from the 41,000 hours of video is what did the Capital Police do either in defense or provocative. Many reports of participants the Police started violence firing into a crowd which wasn’t doing anything.
And who actually broke into windows and doors and have any of those people been picked up? I have doubts any have been.
What used to make my blood boil, but now just makes me more cynical and disengaged, is the level of malfesence and corruption that has gone on since Hillary’s server: Hillary, the Russian election story fraud, Fauci and the covid disaster, J6, the Biden family corruption in general and Hunter in specific.
Nothing ever happens to these people, and nothing ever will. Maybe I have selective memory, but I can’t imagine such high level and widespread criminality in the political class being swept under the rug in the past as it is now.
But if your blood hasn’t YET come to a boil…there’s always this tidbit of, um, sick outrageousness:

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/yellen-admits-that-ccp-linked-silicon-valley-bank-depositors-will-be-bailed-out-by-u-s-banks/
But on the chance that not even THAT will do it (i.e., you meditate three times a day, eat right, take a daily siesta, are totally into “wellness” and are entirely imperturbable…)…

The MSM isn’t ‘biased’. Rather, they are corrupt liars and slanderers. They are the enemy of truth, the enemy of the people. Purposely, deliberately, intentionally.
I can’t imagine how any morally decent person could be a friend with political reporters and editors covering the beltway. Not any more. When they show themselves to be dishonest, hateful and nasty, treat them as the hate-filled, nasty liars they are.
Physicsguy,
Agree 100%. And you just hit a few of the many stories.
Neo- “I’d like to know what injuries were reported by police (supposedly 114 Capitol Police, for example). Major? Minor? “Injury” covers a wide range of possibilities, some of them quite minor.”
Exactly! I remember back in the’70’s when I was a police officer in Detroit for a while, on one of my first days on the job I was kicked in the leg during an arrest. It was minor, didn’t even leave a bruise. However I was told to go to the ER so that it could be recorded as an officer “injured in the line of duty”. Being a police officer is a dangerous job and many are seriously injured every day, but you can’t always believe the numbers. I suspect that given the narrative that needed to be maintained that day, of those 114 many if not most were either minor or non- existent.
Chris B:
It is standard practice in government jobs or jobs under the thumb of the government to report all “injuries” no matter how trivial under the reasoning that some trivial injuries may develop into serious ailments, and the injured worker will be SOOL from the employer because he won’t be able to show the serious ailmemt started with an on the job injury.
SOOL = sh*t out of luck
“Police injured by friendly fire on Jan. 6” Julie Kelly writing at AG Jan. 24,23.
Thank you for your writing, I enjoy reading.
The deaths of Greeson and Phillips were due to heart attacks. I think the allegation is that the heart attacks were caused by stun grenades landing very close to them. I think that is almost impossible to prove. I have seen video of both of their deaths and although it’s impossible from the video to determine exactly how they died it is clear that fellow protestors were trying desperately to administer CPR and save their lives while Capitol Police officers for the most part acted with indifference.
The police injuries were similar to John Kerry’s three band-aid worthy wounds that got him his golden ticket home from Nam.
“Police are fascists!!”
– The Left, whenever a black person is beaten, no matter the reason available ON FILM for it to happen.
“Police are honorable servants!!”
— The Left, whenever a white person is beaten, no matter the LACK of reason ON FILM for it to have happened.
A racist double standard, indeed.
When is a bailout not a bailout?
Um, yeah, OK.
When is suppressing evidence NOT suppressing evidence?

Does this mean that with all this money streaming into Federal government securities, that “Biden” can really decide to “go for broke”? I.e., by “tweaking” the value of those securities downward, via some sort of inflationary, and/or other manipulation?
