With the Biden administration, the left has pulled the mask off
During his administration, Obama was careful to keep his leftist core under control except to those with discerning eyes. Obama carefully calibrated his movements to the left and never went too much further than the public could accept with the help of the ever-thoughtful MSM. Plus there was his seemingly erudite and thoughtful manner of speaking – and even his baritone voice itself – which soothed people into thinking he was not especially radical. The “change” of which he spoke was vaguely-defined. The assumption on the part of many was that, whatever the change was, it would be something great.
But with Biden there’s none of that. His persona is strange and his rhetoric vacant, mendacious, unintelligible, and/or openly vicious. There’s also the destructiveness of his advisors and appointees. My sense is that the left has allowed itself to get so bold as a direct result of changes that occurred during the Obama administration. First, they made certain that agencies such as the DOJ and FBI were wholly occupied by the partisan left. Second, the advent of leftist-led social media gave them an extra lever of control. Third, the Overton window was shifted substantially to the left, step by step. Fourth, the takeoever of the MSM was substantially complete. Fifth, the campaign against voting laws that helped to prevent fraud – such as voter ID – successfully made use of the “racist” accusation. Sixth, Obama himself furthered an increasingly successful drive (begun long before Obama, but perfected by him) to make “racist” a charge that more and more people associated with the right in general and just about everything it did or advocated. Since then, the label of “terrorist” has also been successfully applied to much of the right, via the persecution/prosecution of the Whitmer kidnapping defendants and especially the January 6th demonstrators.
It’s obvious that our present government can correctly be labeled as leftist, and that they no longer seem to care or to be afraid of that label. And if there also has been successful voting fraud, it would give them a further sense of invulnerability.
You sem to be in a bit of a depressed mood today. Neo. Not that I can blame you given what you laid out above. My depression is given by the fact that I see no way out of this. The GOP is useless, us small folk are powerless especially as our votes are meaningless in states such as Arizona. We either go quietly into the darkness, or there will be an eventual violent reaction….not good either way.
To a large extent, Obama thought he was himself the Hope and Change he promised. In his own mind, he was the person we were waiting for, and once he lost Congress that was about all the major change the country would get (you’re right, though, about all the little changes in personnel and attitude that made the military and security agencies such an important tool for the Democrats). Obama was in no way a national unifier, but his party and progressives in general would have made (or had already made) racism a centerpiece of their rhetoric even without him. The message might have been more successful coming from him, but it was the Zeitgeist.
The mention of the Overton window is appropriate. The two parties don’t like each other and struggle for dominance, but usually there’s only so much a president or a party can do, and they accept that. When one party really does achieve dominance, all the half-baked ideas think tanks and lobbyists have been toying with come out of the toy chest and are applied in ways that benefit the party. Sometimes a leader can restrain the party, but usually success, and the prospect of getting more goodies from the taxpayer, goes to everyone’s head.
Biden was a creature of his party and of the Overton window. He changed over the decades, but that was because what was possible and what the party wanted shifted, not because he thought things through at any point.
Disagree. I think you’re looking at cultural shifts at the ground level. Street-level Democrats are quite tolerant of garbage candidates and seem to prefer them in one venue after another. See, for example, Ilhan Omar winning a primary campaign in 2020 over a black lawyer with a conventional family life. See the grotesque elected DA in Los Angeles County over the black woman who had held the position previously (and was a conventional prosecutor). See Larry Krasner’s re-election in Philadelphia. In competitive jurisdictions, the slice of the electorate whose vote would be influenced by the low calibre of the candidates the Democrats nominate is small and can now be countermanded by vote fraud.
You have a supply side and a demand side problem here – the increasingly odious quality of people presenting themselves as candidates and the indifference to the electorate to their odious qualities. Have a gander at the Democratic candidates for president in 2019. You had four men who had founded profitable businesses, one of whom had a creditable record as a public executive. You had another who had been both a business executive and a state governor. You had a state governor who had successfully appealed to a red state electorate. All of these people were ignored by Democratic voters. Instead, they favored (1) a prosecutor-turned-legislator with a history of abusing subordinates; (2) a walking resume whose primary credential was two terms as the meh mayor of a 4th tier city; (3) a professor-turned-legislator whose academic career had been built on affirmative action fraud (old pictures of Elizabeth Herring Mann show that she used to color her hair black); (2) a Trotskyist legislator whose most salient credential is an eight year stint as a fairly successful mayor of a 4th tier city, a city which has little of the social pathology the walking resume failed to address; and (1) a dopey uber-corrupt grotesque whose previous presidential campaigns had ended in ignominious failure.
I’d also point out to you how little an older generation of Democrats has had to say about the cultural decay of the Democratic Party. Where have Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, Michael Dukakis, Bill Bradley, George Mitchell been in the midst of all this? (You’ll note the GooGoo groups like Common Cause and the League of Women Voters are in favor of further assaults on ballot security).

Yes, I’ve not been very hopeful about politics or the press in this country lately, and even in many in Europe. I’m more than willing to see something more hopeful happen, though.
that was always their purpose, obama’s was to destroy this country, a guided missile rather than a bomber, the subprime crises, that he played a small part in,
the fruit of the joyce foundation, that he was a board member of pushing registration and confiscations, biden served as a vessel for the likes of jen granholm, who sings about the end of fossil fuels! without apology, of course mccain and romney have done their part, the former from the grave, like jacob marley, in abetting all sorts of schemes, and serving as punching bags,
Obama’s successful labeling of the right as racist set up Biden to declare the right as terrorists. An accusation of racism cannot in and of itself result in imprisonment. But since Jan. 20, 2020 an accusation of terrorism can result in indefinite imprisonment and that without trial. The imprisonment without trial of the Jan. 6th political prisoners is a demonstration by the democrats that they regard the Constitution as null and void. And since the GOPe are collaborators with the democrats, there is no corrective political and legal reform possible. Anyone who thinks that we have plumbed the depravity of the left is gravely mistaken. This is at best, the end of the beginning.

I do find a little dark humor that biden and kerry were members of the nuclear freeze crew, along with obama, and now they are all against Russia, but that’s situational ethics, they always had more contempt for their presumed countrymen, that they share physical space, but TWANLOC
This is a very long fight we are in. It may not be truly won in our lifetimes, but it will be won. If I were a better wordsmith I’d find a way to inspire you to think of those things larger than yourself. It will be won.
Democratic leaders have the ruin of the USA at heart, to be replaced by a totalitarian nation a la the old USSR, with elite Democrats in control forever, making D.C. a neo-Kremlin. As Stalin said, “It is not the votes that count; it is who counts the votes”.
The ordinary Dem is a sheep, unaware of being herded. That sheep has been shorn, and will soon be butchered. As I’ve remarked before, the 2020 election for POTUS showed a disunited US, with the popular votes for Biden and Trump split basically 50-50. Our salvation shall only come by dissolution of the Union, and restructuring into several different nations with strongly different political philosophies. Some of these will build walls, others not. The South shall rise again!
No president, present or former, has had to endure what Trump has these past six years. He is a very brave and durable man, which the Dems hate.
Well, if they’re circling the wagons, it means that they expect to be pulverized.
And they have good reason to believe it….

“What Elias is doing is attacking every state election law that is designed to fix what happened in 2020. Every state is under attack. As an optimist, I can’t help seeing a silver lining here. It seems to me that the Overton Window hasn’t opened quite as far as the Left imagines. More and more people are noticing the lawlessness, and getting involved, and fighting back.

I can certainly understand despairing at the state of affairs in the US–and Canada for that matter. The task of fixing the innumerable things that are wrong seems nearly impossible. I’m afraid I gave up the fight long ago. Feeling trapped by a predatory government, not to mention brutal winters, twenty-four years go I moved from Canada to Mexico. Why Mexico? I know a lot of Canadians move to the US, but after seeing how the justice system treated Conrad Black, it did not appeal to me. One of the happiest years I have had was spent studying music in Spain in the 1970s so when a friend described how lovely a certain town in central Mexico was, we tried it out. It has worked out very well, not least in the matter of health care. Mexico is a healthcare destination because it offers high quality care at a very reasonable price. One example? When I needed an MRI I was able to make an appointment for the next day. Cost $150 US. In Canada it is “free” (meaning you pay through your taxes) but the average wait time is three months. Time to see a specialist here is one week and you can schedule your treatment to suit your schedule. In Canada, the average wait time is 25 weeks. And if you have a sick kid in Quebec and have to visit the emergency room, just don’t bother!
Lots of other benefits in Mexico. You hear a lot of negative stories about violence here, which certainly exists. But where I live is very peaceful. And government interference in your life is absolutely minimal. Oh, did I mention there is no shoplifting and no homeless problem?
Free at last!
Free at last!

Nothing will happen to Sam Bank-Fraud, Twitter head honchos controlled by Democrats and no doubt every other social media as well.
Hearing 1,000 people in Gulag Garland and BLM getting cash settlements for rioting in Minneapolis.
It’s going to get worse to 2024 and after as they have controlled vote fraud to a science
To repeat —
1. Election results are not likely to be indicative of true voter sentiment. Period. It makes no sense to review all the ways that elections are tainted and then discuss their “results” as if they aren’t.
2. The horrific abuses by Big Brother will continue and worsen as long as ordinary Democrat voters approve. There are only two paths to correcting the destruction of the republic: a) ordinary Democrat voters join the fight for election integrity, or 2) the nation descends into violence and the storm troopers with integrity are a large enough majority and they choose to side with the rebels against the empire.
No one wants to descend into violence (except perhaps the sickest and most vicious of the Democrats/Antifa leaders).
That leaves one viable path — convince decent Democrat voters that they have been voting for destroying America unless we institute election integrity measures used by the rest of the free world. That’s it.
. Are there any decent Democrat voters left? I don’t know.
The starting point is to raise awareness of how far our election processes vary from every other democracy. Every single voter in America needs to be bombarded with this information.
Instead of screaming about stolen elections past, point out how bad the process is. The process cannot be defended. Mailing ballots is ridiculous. Pound that message.
It’s true that elections have been stolen. But that isn’t a winning message for change. It makes Dem voters resist. Far better would be to point out how outraged they will be when the GOP starts raking in mail ballots and voting imaginary voters.
Very good, Neo. Very good indeed.
Gonna be an “interesting” week.

@Barry Meislin
One thing for sure, is that Elon has been triggered. He wasn’t particularly political until about a year ago, at least as far as I could see, and strikes me as fairly libertarian in his views.
He was just an eccentric billionaire that was doing some very interesting things with technology and engineering. Now that the Left has decided he’s an enemy, for having the temerity to support free speech, he’s activating his Trump-level trolling powers. He must figure that if he’s going to be painted as the bad guy, he might as well own the role. Elon is another sleeping giant the Left has needlessly provoked. I’ve got my popcorn.
like tony stark, who they borrowed some of elon’s personality from, a iconoclastic tech mogul who dreams big, sometimes his alliances were not the best, say with the prc or the quixotic leviathan that is the state of california, for his hypertrain,
prince salman is another such character we have wanted a dynamic reformer who was willing to challenge the wahhabi death cult, not just with words, but getting at their financial support base, that’s what the ritz carlton raid was about, and their intellectual recruitment network, this isn’t a virtue signaling stunt, this is life or death for him and his family, his tribe the ajman know this in their bones,
and yet they have driven him into this makeship BRICS framework,
I’m feeling depressed about US politics too.

The US, especially the young, has probably become more leftist than the past, but I don’t believe so far as the current Dem party.
I say the rubber band is already snapping back. The midterms showed the Dem ability to “fortify” the vote has made the margin of fraud greater than in the past, but not so great they can win at will. We now have the House and the Senate remains close.
The midterms have given Biden a bit of a reprieve and he may run in 2024, which is a good for Republicans. I think it would be even better if Trump didn’t run, but that’s a refinement.
Back when I was on the left we would have called “pulling the mask off” a kind of “heightening the contradictions,” which we thought was a good thing. Maybe that was just happy talk, but I notice that the left spent a lot of time mostly powerless in the desert before their long marches through the institutions bore fruit.
Hard-core progs and low-info voters aren’t likely to come over. Which is sad, but not too surprising. In the meantime, however, which side do you think is losing support?
Mike K: yes, I read the CTH piece on the surveillance state and the Intelligence Branch. Very long and repetitive in places–Sundance is not a very good writer–but important and plausible. Some key paragraphs:
“For their own self-preservation, the Intelligence Branch has been interfering in our elections for years. The way to tear this apart begins with STATE LEVEL election reform that blocks the Legislative Branch from coordinating with the Intelligence Branch.”
“The extreme federalism approach is critical and also explains why Joe Biden has instructed Attorney General Merrick Garland to use the full power of the DOJ to stop state level election reform efforts. The worry of successful state level election control is also why the Intelligence Branch now needs to support the federal takeover of elections.”
“Our elections have been usurped by the Intelligence Branch. Start with honest elections and we will see just how much Democrat AND Republican corruption is dependent on manipulated election results. Start at the state level. Start there…. everything else is downstream.”
The Bush administration created a monster after 9/11; Obama, Holder, and their lieutenants turned it against their political opponents and the American people in general.
It seems that whatever power members of the current liberal alliance acquire, many if not most of them are determined to push the envelope, abuse their authority, cheat, recruit and groom children, etc – all manner of hyper aggressive activism. They dare civil society and our timid courts to reign them in. In this light, election fraud and sexualizing children are aspects of the same aggressive activism.
