  1. The loathsome Garland must be held to account by the Republicans in the new year, along with Mayorkas; it is not easy to determine which of the two is more destructive to the fabric of our rapidly-unravelling republic, while Hakeem, nephew of CCNY’s infamous so-called “professor”, looks set to make even conservatives long for the good old days of the rich and corrupt Baltimorean.

  2. Perhaps the special counsel is an effort to distract from the investigations of Hunter’s and Joe’s crooked business dealings upcoming in the House, and perhaps from a House investigation of the J6 committee itself. Evidence gathered on the lack of law enforcement preparedness for the J6 protest and the imbedded government agents would be embarrassing.

  3. This looks highly petty and vindictive. The WaPo reports that, after all, there were no state secrets found at Mar-a-Lago. The RNC has previously said that it cannot cover legal fees for announced candidates. Trump announces. Garland appoints a special counsel.

  4. I will toss this out. Nancy quit the leadership because she knew that was in trouble with the caucus. She will stay in the House for awhile then announce her retirement. I think that she has or will work a deal with Newsom that she will support his run for the WH. She has money and contacts. For that she wants Newsom to appoint her Daughter to replace her. That is a life time appointment.

A lot of talk about the Red Wave that wasn’t. I am just glad they got what they got. I am also glad that the Rep did not win the Senate, but do hope Walker wins. If the Rep had won both houses then everything that goes more wrong in the next 2 yr would be because of them. I also think that getting Jefferies as Dem leader will not be good for the Dems. He can’t control like Nancy did and he has a lot of baggage. I would hope that everyday the Rep remind the world of that Baggage.
    Those are my thoughts.

  5. On item 2, did he really say both reasons? Isn’t that the essence of a fishing expedition? He may have done something wrong, so we will investigate until we find something wrong that he committed. Of course, I don’t expect a DC court to care one way or another, but wow. We live in a caste system now. You are either part of the DC caste and its ancillaries in select cities, or you are not.

  6. 1) Clearly Democrat fraud hasn’t quite infested Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District enough.

    2) Does anyone here really doubt that Trump’s enemies are not prepared to do whatever it takes to keep Trump from returning to the White House?

    3) ideological fanaticism always creates its own downfall.

    4) the alternative to massive fraud having occurred in Arizona is that a majority of Arizonan’s value Liberty too little to retain it.

    5) to quote Paul Joseph Watson, “It’s okay when we do it!”

  7. Conservative Treehouse agrees with Kate @3:58pm until takes it a step further. This will be lawfare against any House investigation into Biden & Son and any MAGA representative that had any contact with anyone in the Trump administration, advising the administration, or expressed any support for the administration.

The Trump-centric part of the special counsel appointment, the part that everyone is focusing on, is ancillary to the real purpose of the appointment. However, that said, all investigative resources from Main Justice and the FBI will transfer to Jack Smith as they did when Crossfire Hurricane transferred to Robert Mueller. The investigative people will transfer along with the investigative evidence.

Duplicating history, all of the DC elements of the UniParty, both Democrats and Republicans, will sing the praises of Jack Smith as an honorable man, beyond reproach, blah, blah, blah. If you want to stop playing the pretending game, just pay attention to the people praising him, and THOSE voices are the bad guys.

As you can see from the simple (non-pretending) explanation of what is being done, the lawfare process become clear. Everything congress may now begin to question falls under the protective blanket of an “ongoing investigation,” exactly as we predicted. Plus, you get the additional Lawfare elements of congressional leadership under investigation which provides an entirely new ‘conflict of interest dynamic’ to the political equation.

Then you have the congressional representatives under investigation and search warrants on their phones, text messages, emails, etc…. AND the added benefit of using DOJ-NSD defined terms of “national security threat” to gain FISA warrants on an entire incoming congressional delegation. How slick is that?

This also explains why Nancy Pelosi did not resign from congress, but only stepped down from her leadership role. The timing of mid-November (today) gives Smith time to get all his midterm counter-offensive ducks in a row before his republican targets take office in January.Sundance

  8. Via Mollie Hemingway’s twitter, a commenter points out that Eric Holder appointed Jack Smith to the “Public Integrity” function to take Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell out of contention for the Republican presidential nomination on bogus corruption charges. He did that, and was overruled on his finding unanimously by the Supreme Court. So now he’s back to find something, anything, to get Trump.

  9. For that she wants Newsom to appoint her Daughter to replace her. That is a life time appointment.

House vacancies are filled by special election. Gubernatorial appointments fill Senate vacancies for periods determined by state law. She’s not in the Senate.

  10. In re (2) special counsel – Bob Hoge has some thoughts.
    https://redstate.com/bobhoge/2022/11/19/could-dojs-special-counsel-actually-fire-up-support-for-donald-trump-n661197

Voters, especially Trump’s base, could find renewed energy as they witness yet another overzealous prosecution of Orange Man Bad, and after watching so many failed efforts, they could (correctly) conclude that the Justice Department is simply an untrustworthy, politicized, partisan Democrat operation. In other words, Joe Biden’s enforcement arm:

Get this: back in the 1970s, Smith was a federal prosecutor who helped investigate The Donald for possible fraud charges. The case closed—wait for it… without charges. So if Trump has somewhat of a case of a persecution complex, you’d certainly understand why. This guy Smith has been after him for fifty years.

  11. Also (2) – Andrea Widburg agrees with Bob Hoge.

Today’s we-now-live-in-a-3rd-world-dictatorship news from the Biden administration is Merrick Garland’s breathtaking announcement that he has named a special counsel to conduct a criminal investigation into Donald Trump. Given the complete absence of evidence of any wrongdoing, it’s very clear that the Democrats are terrified of Trump and that they will do anything they can to destroy his candidacy. My suspicion is that this will backfire and, instead, solidify Trump’s support.

When Biden was asked about Trump’s plan to run again for president, there were lots of standard things he could have said, such as saying that he looks forward to a hard-fought campaign or that he doesn’t think Trump can win or that the American people won’t stand for yet another Trump term in office. Biden, however, said none of those things. Instead, Biden said something bizarre and fundamentally un-American: “Well, we just have to demonstrate that he will not take power by—if we—if he does run. I’m making sure he, under legitimate efforts of our Constitution, does not become the next President again.”

Ignore the obligatory cover language about “our Constitution.” The key words are “I’m making sure he…does not become the next President again.” Today, we learned what Biden’s insurance policy is, and it has nothing to do with the Constitution. Instead, the Department of Justice is preparing the groundwork to bring criminal charges against Trump. That these charges are baseless is irrelevant. The point is to sideline the man Biden fears most.

January 6 is a well the left keeps going back to, but it’s been dry from the beginning. Trump wanted more security in D.C., but Pelosi refused. Trump told people only to exercise their First Amendment rights and to do so “peacefully and patriotically.” That is, Trump did nothing to foment criminal activity.

More importantly, we know that, thanks to people such as Ray Epps, many attendees at the rally were already induced to head to the Capitol even as Trump was still speaking. In the same vein, there’s footage showing people in whom the FBI mysteriously has no interest systematically removing all barriers and signage that would have alerted the crowd that they were in a prohibited area. Add to this the fact that we’ve learned that the FBI had agents and informers all over the place on January 6 and the word “entrapment” is the first thing that comes to mind.

Put another way: January 6 wasn’t criminal activity on Trump’s part, but it might have been criminal activity on the government’s part.

They’ve got nothing on Trump, and they’ve never had anything on Trump—but the Biden administration is determined to use the process to destroy Trump. They’re fools because Trump has emerged stronger from every attack, and I’m betting he will this time too.

That kind of depends on how much of the GOP leadership, and some of the Republicans in Congress, side with Biden instead of Trump.
    Neither group wants him back.

  12. Trumps Wrath for the gop that voted for his impeachment as demonstrated by the defeat, or decision not to run again in the midterms, I’m sure has had an impact…

I agree most congressional gop want him gone, but they can’t be too open about it.

The abandonment of the Jan 6th useful idiots by the Gop speaks loudly, but they hoped to use it to get Trump and destroy Maga.

That kind of depends on how much of the GOP leadership, and some of the Republicans in Congress, side with Biden instead of Trump.
    Neither group wants him back.

  13. “Well, Sundance may have jumped the shark. Time will tell.” -om

Maybe. But given the fact that congressmen have already had their phones siezed by the fbi, it makes sense that any incoming MAGA representative will be treated to the Washington DC “welcome wagon.”

Bill Barr thinks Trump will be legitimately indicted, but just because they can, doesn’t mean they should. Think Comey’s assessment of Hillary’s crime.

“A bombshell report released on Thursday reveals that former FBI Director James Comey’s memo on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said there was “evidence to support a conclusion” that she committed a felony before subordinates removed multiple references of incriminating terms and deleted mentions of evidence that supported felony and misdemeanor criminal acts.

The website of Senate Homeland and Government Affairs Committee Chairman Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) released the full draft of Comey’s memo on Clinton, including the edits to the draft. The Hill reports:

The full draft, with edits, leaves little doubt that Comey originally wrote on May 2, 2016 that there was evidence that Clinton and top aides may have violated both felony and misdemeanor statutes, though he did not believe he could prove intent before a jury.”

I don’t think they’re going to focus on MAL, though. They already revealed that with leaked information to the Washington Post that there were no national secrets that Trump could profit on in the documents.

From what we know at this point, nothing being done to reject or seat alternate electors is a crime though.

  14. Some of us are old enough to remember in late 2019 and early 2020 when the Democrats said that asking a foreign leader to investigate possible crimes committed by a potential political component was tantamount to illegal election interference and an impeachable offense. So what does that make it when the Attorney General announces the appointment of a special prosecutor to examine an actual, declared political candidate?

  15. Bill Barr thinks Trump will be legitimately indicted,

What does Bill Barr think about Jeffrey Epstein’s fractured hyoid bone?

  16. “Bill Barr thinks Trump will be legitimately indicted,”

He also felt that Lon Horuichi is one swell guy. Barr is a traitor like his father.

  17. remember matt whitaker, he had a really acid skepticism about this whole travisham, recall what they did to him, they brought the ftc and the doj against him what they did to guiliani, who brought us much of this samizdat info,

  18. I mentioned Barr to emphasize my point– just because you can doesn’t mean you should, using Hillary as the example.
