Telling Big Lies: more Senate probes of Trump — 20 Comments

  1. Our very own Stasi’s desperate and disgraceful hunting of the great orange whale (and “partners in crime”) is rapidly intensifying, and it would seem as though the only question now is not whether but when Trump will be indicted, (needless to say) on utterly spurious grounds. The rabid partisans who make up the activist (and utterly unhinged) base of the party of “woke” totalitarian cultists are already salivating over the prospect of their nemesis in chains and rendered hors de combat as the destruction of the republic proceeds apace, while the Republicans may well soon be snatching “defeat from the jaws of victory”.

  2. Well he handed the job to khazemi deutsch bank fixer sec associate of mrs strzok melissa hodgman who is investigation truth social quelle surprise.

  3. Nothing leads to greater missteps than ideological obsession.
By definition, obsession rejects both common sense and “inconvenient truths”.

Trump is indeed the democrat party’s “Great White Whale”.

Like Ahab, their obsession with Trump will lead to their downfall. Not by Trump but by the majority of Americans, who are increasingly under personal threat by crime, inflation, racist indoctrination of their children and now, being branded as a “fundamental threat to democracy”.

25% of Americans cannot intimidate 75% of Americans in the anoymous voting booth.

While stealing another election would result in a terrible consequence.

  4. Tucker had AZ Governor candidate Kari Lake (R) on tonight. He claimed that the media has branded Ms. Lake as a purveyor of “The Big Lie.” I don’t know any of the facts of this, though the few clips I’ve seen would suggest that she is a determined truth teller.

  5. Dershowitz:
“Is This the End of Executive Privilege? Or Only for Trump?”—
    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/18905/executive-privilege-trump

Dershowitz once again shows his courage…but, alas, also his poor judgment, as in the following:
‘…”Because we can” has become the current mantra of both parties. [Emphasis mine: Barry M.] Neutral principles, which apply equally without regard to partisan advantage, is for wimps, not party leaders or other government officials. “They do it too” has become the excuse de jure….’

  6. @ Barry in re Dershowitz ”Because we can” has become the current mantra of both parties.”

It’s not the mantra of the Republican Party currently; possibly, it never has been (witness the refusal of Congress to deliver on long-time promises even when they had both Houses AND the Presidency).
However, DeSantis and Abbott are showing what Governors with fortitude will do because they can.

  7. Fighting back against rampant, legal, social, ethical and Constitutional abuses “because we can”?
    Um, er, excuse me….
(Though apologies if I didn’t quite catch the irony(!))

  8. Also Dersh: “Today’s partisan victory for Democrats, if their waiver argument is accepted, will soon become their loss should Republicans take control.”

I don’t know why he thinks that.
Republicans have very seldom hit back at Democrats.
With the exception of capitalizing on the Democrats’ dropping the filibuster for judicial appointments, I can’t think of anything the GOP has ever done to make the Left pay for trashing norms, regulations, laws, or the Constitution.

    Change my mind.

  9. Dershowitz cited one case:

Perhaps the most blatant example of partisan hypocrisy was how the Republican Senate treated the 2016 nomination of Merrick Garland and the 2020 nomination of Amy Coney Barrett as Supreme Court justices. The Republicans refused to give Garland a hearing in 2016, because it was too close to the election, but then rushed through the nomination of Barrett just weeks before the 2020 election. Whenever asked to justify their obvious double standard, their only response was “because we can.”

IIRC the discussion about the two revolved around the differences in the offices held by the two parties in those years in order to explain why the two nominations were not sufficiently analogous.
However, it’s hard to make a trend out of one example.

Also, who actually said, “Because we can” as a taunt, which is what Dersh implies, rather than a plain statement of fact?
    Or said it at all?

  10. Seems to me that Dershowitz is rather conveniently forgetting several pertinent details:
    – the war Harry Reid declared on Congressional precedent—and the Republican Party—by smashing the filibuster, and
    – the total absence of bi-partisanship on Obamacare.

The response to this onslaught was that the Republicans rejected Garland’s nomination, fully expecting that the likelihood of a Democrat party win in the 2016 election would ensure Garland’s renomination.

Except that Hillary didn’t come through.

No doubt Garland and his supporters gleefully recognize that he can destroy the republic far more efficiently in his current role.

it’s not possible for anyone to think this is ok. Not possible.

The supposedly clueless, ignorant Democrat voter who really is a nice person and just knows that Democrats are the good guys cannot possibly believe in good faith that this is not a horrific abuse of power.

Imagine the screaming if the roles were reversed. And note, anyone who believes that THEY and their side are immune from the corrupting influence of power is guilty of the worst hubris. They aren’t just morally defective. They are embracing the path to evil.

The argument — “It’s okay if we do it, but horrible it they do it because we are good and they are evil” isn’t morally acceptable even to kids in grade school. Little kids know better. Don’t let your liberal friends get away with it.

  16. Paul Sperry, RealClearInvestigations: Unpacking the Apparent Trump-Hillary Double Standard: For Her, the FBI Helped Obstruct Its Own Investigation

Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch obtained evidence that a computer contractor working under the direction of Hillary Clinton’s legal team destroyed subpoenaed records that the former secretary of state stored on a private email server she originally kept at her New York home, and then lied to investigators about it. Yet no charges were brought against Clinton, her lawyers, or her paid consultant.

The leniency accorded to Clinton contrasts with recent moves by Attorney General Merrick Garland to aggressively investigate former President Trump and his lawyers for allegedly obstructing investigators’ efforts to locate subpoenaed records at his Florida home. Legal experts say the apparent double standard may provide a useful defense for Trump and his legal team.
