Might this put a damper on the “fast-track surgery for trans” movement?
A man is suing for damages from the surgery that was intended to make him a woman. His story occurred in Britain, and it appears in The Daily Mail.
The 35-year-old man had a history of mental problems. An online discussion group convinced him that becoming a woman would solve them. This is not an unusual story these days; online groups are very influential in the growth of the numbers of trans people in both this country and Britain.
After seeing him for two 30-minute sessions, a clinic agreed and put him on hormones. His story is that he never wanted what is euphemistically called “bottom” surgery (penis and testicle removal and vaginoplasty), but after a while he got the message that he would be refused continuing services if he didn’t do it. By that time he was feeling suicidal, and so he reluctantly agreed and had the surgery in 2018 with great trepidation. Afterwards he’s been left with serious damage:
Ritchie claims he was fast-tracked into making “the biggest mistake of [his] life.” He’s been “left infertile, incontinent and with ongoing pain.”
He asserts the NHS clinic took no account of his mental health issues, which might’ve led him to believe he was transgender. Furthermore, he wasn’t properly warned of the medical risks of his procedures.
The story is chilling, to say the least. And I’m thinking that as time goes on and more such cases surface both in the US and Britain – two of the main centers of trans surgery – authorities may become more careful about doing so much of this surgery, for fear of litigation and the resulting expenses.
It used to be that such surgeries were only approved after a very lengthy process and only to adults, and mental health status – and the sort of history this man mentions – was part of the evaluation and considered a huge red flag. No more. Also, the ages have gotten younger and younger.
The idea of a “gender-affirming therapist” is an absurdity, as Jordan Peterson has pointed out:
There’s no such thing as a gender-affirming therapist. It’s a contradiction in terms. Because you don’t affirm if you’re a therapist. It’s not your business to affirm. You come to see me because there’s something wrong. … Am I going to affirm what you think? No, it’s not up to me to affirm it. You don’t get a casual pat on the back from a therapist for your pre-existing axiomatic conclusions. That’s not therapy; that’s a rubber stamp.
Peterson is describing a type of therapy that has increasingly been jettisoned in the last forty years or so. Now many therapists have an explicit bias and don’t do what used to be known as “therapy” at all.
I recently read a Twitter thread by an American male-to-female surgical patient who talked about major regrets following “bottom” surgery: complete loss of libido, no sensation at all in the pretend vagina, difficulty urinating with the reconstructed apparatus and constant urinary leakage. Deep, deep regrets, and none of these very foreseeable situations were explained to him at all before he did it.
My opinion is that most of these “transgenders” would have been much better off remaining in their original bodily arrangements. Some may be “gay,” but they would be whole.
This kind of thing becomes even worse when “authorities” like Rachel Levine push hormone treatments and surgeries for children. These children will be left permanently infertile and permanently unable to experience sexual pleasure, and these decisions will be guided by adults who will take these potentials away from them when they are too young to understand what is being done.
The standard of care in this area is certainly not settled.
I’d say the NHS has a ream of documents showing that this person consented to this.
Cornhead:
Of course they have such documents. Even he says he did consent. He says his consent wasn’t informed consent and that it was under duress because they were going to withdraw the other services they provided him.
The physical realities of what trans surgery did to this young man are horrific. He definitely thinks that in addition to the lack of mental health care given to him, he didn’t have informed consent because the complete picture of the effects of the surgery were never explained to him.
From an article on his experiences: “No one ever told me that the base area of your penis is left. It can’t be removed. It means you have a stump inside which twitches.”He added: “It takes me about 10 minutes to empty my bladder. It is extremely slow, painful, and because it dribbles… it will then go all over the entire area, leaving me soaking.
‘I find moments later my underwear is wet. It slowly drips out for more than an hour. I never knew that I would risk smelling of p*** everywhere I go.”

Neo:
Representing admitted crazy people is a tough game. As a young lawyer, I worked at the top med mal defense firm in the state. The lead lawyer in the med mal department sued the State of Nebraska which operates the Nebraska Regional Center in Norfolk. That’s a mental hospital.
The plaintiff was hospitalized in Norfolk and tried to escape by walking back to Omaha. He got hit by a car and died. The case got kicked before trial.
In a case I defended, a crazy person jumped out a hospital window. The plaintiff’s lawyer kept saying his client “was pushed or jumped.” Another loser.
The above being said, nothing like a bunch of med mal verdicts to crush this industry.

Strikes me that, working on young folks, nothing signed before the age of majority is a valid contract. So if a sixteen year old signs a waiver excusing the doc from bad stuff happening after the surgery…the waiver isn’t valid. The doc would likely have something signed by the parents. Wonder how their legal standing would be.
Anyone who wonders about the mental health of some transgenders should have a look at an article published by New York magazine last December titled “My Penis, Myself,” about the author’s phalloplasty. Photo in tighty whiteys included at the link. Trigger warning: you may learn more about the process of constructing a male organ out of a woman’s skin and muscle than you really want to know. It is, however, a deep dive into the weirdness as well as the narcissism that drives so many transgender people. The author is proud, among other things, of the fact that s/he kept xer vagina alongside the phalloplasty.

I wonder whether Gabriel Mac will be as happy 5 years from now as s/he claims to be now. I also wonder what the MDs among Neo’s readers make of GM’s account.
OTOH, I should also ask what Cornhead and other lawyers make of this story.
I can sympathize for his incontinence and ongoing pain. As for his infertility, “Major mental disorders traditionally thought to be distinct share certain genetic glitches, according to a new study.”
https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/common-genetic-factors-found-5-mental-disorders
Had the NHS Clinic “taken account” of his mental issues and refused future ‘treatment’, he’d probably have sued for that.
Since the activist push for normalization of transgenderism is about societal approval to achieve societal dissolution, minor issues like physical health and life altering considerations for the cannon fodder are not of concern.
I think this is the link that Kate mentioned above. I suppose it could be “fake news” but although it is graphic I urge folks to read it so they can ask pertinent questions when the issue comes up in everyday conversation.
I think a LOT of people have no idea or, like me, prefer to avert eyes.
“Here is an example of someone who went though the change from male to female.
You probably know but the “neo vagina” needs to be regularly dildo’ed in order to keep it open.
Otherwise, it will heal over like your ear lobe if you stop wearing earrings.

This is also evidence of how far along the “moonbats” have gone. I want to serve on the jury if a parent is charged with taking action after something like this is done to their child ….
“SB107 will make California a sanctuary state for experimental medicine on minors. It will permit a parent to violate a custody agreement in any other state and have refuge in California, regardless of whether that state has a ban on gender interventions for minors. It will permit children, without parents or guardians, to come to California become wards of our state and receive irreversible gender intervention without any parental consent.”
The Heavens Gate UFO castration cult was ahead of their times. Nowadays they’d be an acclaimed division of NASA.
The knife can’t fix what’s wrong in the head, unless you are “lucky” enough to be afflicted with an operable brain tumor. But that’s a different kind of top surgery.
My wife just passed from metastatic breast cancer which I believe was a result of her undergoing fertility treatments which drastically shut down her hormonal system to induce a pregnancy after three tries. I asked around at her memorial and it’s not too far fetched to relate fertility treatments to breast cancer.
Now jump to this radical new therapy to turn boys into girls and vice versa, and I predict horrible outcomes for these sad souls turning their bodies upside down for an affectation, IMO.
Deepest condolences, JAW3.
Sorry, but I’m fresh out of caring about these items of cultural cannon fodder.
Om, funnily enough, since you mention it, I’ve been struggling with a brain tumor they found this last year. Because what else is there to do these days?
It’s probably not “cancer” and it’s hopefully under control. But, yes, according to my docs, who gave me excellent and prompt treatment, hormones are an issue with brain tumors.
JAW3, I am so sorry for your loss.
I have no doubt you are right about the hormones. But, it’s cold comfort.
May she rest in peace
Esther:
It is good that your treatment was not delayed and that the tumor is under control. I’ve known two people who’ve had brain cancers. One is still cured, (+15 years now) but the other was not so fortunate, He went to be with the Lord about 20 years ago.
JAW3, I too am saddened by the death of your wife and your sorrow.
JAWS3:
Please accept my condolences on the death of your wife.
Those people that push TG treatment / surgery for kids are real sickos; they are perverts.
They are in the same club as who find bestiality or pedophilia acceptable.
I do not understand why every state does not make it illegal to give anybody under the age of 18 any sort of TG treatment or surgery. I believe many nations in Europe have adopted this policy.
How such an incredibly small minority of “people” can and do dictate to the majority how things will be , just shows how easy (and scary) it is to manipulate and set policy for the vast majority of people.
A fairly simple and thorough damper on these surgeries would be to put the surgeon, the anaesthesiologist, and the endocrinologist in prison where they belong. As for the social workers, clinical psychologists, and psychiatrists in this trade, a loss of their professional license would be apposite.
The Heavens Gate UFO castration cult was ahead of their times.
A few were castrated in 1995, a couple of years before their mass suicide. They had to go to Mexico for the surgery because they could not find an American doctor willing to perform it. The medical profession used to be better than they are today.
Compare and contrast.

It appears that Biden would have been impeached already if he had selected a VP candidate who was even 20% capable of being president. I guess he learned that lesson from Obama.
Maybe we should amend the constitution to elect (or to at least nominate) the president and VP separately. No truly logical reason for the presidential nominee to make that selection outside of the party voters’ specific preferences. The VP does not have to exist as the president’s lap dog; merely waiting in the wings as a stand-in when required, plus preside over the Senate, is the real core job.
Alternatively, the presidential nominee could select 3 or 4 VP candidates at the party convention for the party members to down select among them. Semi ranked voting?

@ Richard Aubrey > “So if a sixteen year old signs a waiver excusing the doc from bad stuff happening after the surgery…the waiver isn’t valid.”
I suppose the states which allow this have enacted some kind of legal immunity, same as Biden Inc. is doing for minor girls (can we still call them “girls”?) that are given abortions without their parents’ knowledge.

By Libertarian justice it was all voluntary participation in sexual conduct by people and so the government should keep its nose out of this tent.
And since it was all voluntary and by private individuals (not government officials), we can’t compare the doctors to Nazi and Japanese war criminals, or to the Tuskegee experiment.
Bottom surgery on semi-willing participants is no different than boob jobs on women who feel society undervalues A cups.
No where in the world remains which to flee
Surgery does not cure mental illness.
Everyone is a mix of hard (male) traits and soft (female) traits. “Normal” individuals learn to use what they have. The mental cases are unhappy and latch onto a fantasy. With or without surgery, hormone therapy and support, trannie suicide rate is horrific. High heels don’t help mental illness either.
Many children seem to require time to grow into their adult identity. Performing irreversible surgery or chemical therapy on children is abuse, and/or malpractice worthy of jail time. Most children will “grow out of it” and will not appreciate the surgical or chemical mutilation. Those who have persistent gender issues will still need therapy and support. Mutilation will not help.
Mutilation for profit deserves prison time.
